Snow birds!! My two great aunts are just this. My Aunt Gloria lives here on Long Island, but come November, she escapes the cold, long winter to sunny Florida. My Auntie Anne follows her right after Christmas from snowy upstate NY.
Well, Spring has officially sprung and today my two Aunts are indeed home in NY and will be visiting us. My girls absolutely adore these two women and can totally understand, because growing up I truly just loved both my aunts.
See these two wonderful ladies are my grandmother’s sisters. My grandmother (who unfortunately passed away in 2010) was one of six children. She had three sisters (my Aunt Lucy is also no longer with us, too) and two brothers, as well.
The winter is definitely very long and I must admit we all look forward to when my aunts return to NY. My girls are truly so excited and have been talking about seeing them both now for days.
But I thought for Flashback Wednesday, I would post a picture of Lily meeting both my aunts for the very first time. Lily happened to be born in November and both aunts were already in Florida. So only got to meet her for that very first time, when they returned in the Spring of 2011.
They had already met and loved on Emma, but this was truly the first time they laid eyes on Lily and think the pictures will speak for themselves how much they adored Lily from that first meeting. By the way, Lily was still taking it all in and was in the phase of being a bit shell shocked when she met new people for the first time. But I assure you that nowadays, she doesn’t stop beaming when talking about them and in their presence she does truly melt.
So without further ado, here is Lily’s first meeting with her great-great aunts!!
Aunt Gloria, by the way, is my godmother and was almost 18 years younger then my grandmother. So, she was almost like my mom’s older sister. Therefore, I truly grew up as close as can be with her. And I truly feel she took on the role of my girls great-grandmother since my grandmother is no longer here. She really has stepped into that role so perfectly!!
And my Auntie Anne truly has also tried to help out where the void of my grandmother is concerned. And in this picture, I admit Lily looks a bit like a deer caught in headlights, but she was so truly loved on that day by both these women and still is now, too!!
Well, folks if I am a bit MIA today, you will know why. I have these two amazing and loving women visiting today and will be spending as much time catching up with them as possible.
