Well, it is now May and missed my April Currently update posting window. We are fully emerged in spring now. Easter Sunday came and went. But with it brought record warm temperatures.
Seriously, it was almost 85 degrees. We broke out shorts and even turned our AC on!
Then it cooled down a bit. But warmed up nicely just in time for my daughter’s First Holy Communion with temperatures back at around 8o degrees once again.
But back and forth the temperatures seem to go. Plus rain off and on still, as well. Even worse last week, it was barely cracking out of the 50s making mid May and Mother’s Day feel eerily like March!
Now this week we are seeing almost 80 degrees again. Plus, I have a head cold. Somehow, I made it all winter long relatively healthy. But now that it is May and gorgeous out, I am a bit stuffy and also fighting a scratchy throat.
[Tweet “What is currently going on with you?”]
Looking ahead though, I thought what better time to give you more of what is “Currently” going on in my neck of the woods this May before it is over now, too.
Reading…
I finally read Thirteen Reasons Why, by Jay Asher. Shared all about my reading and Netflix viewing experience more in depth here. So, I won’t be discussing this one further right now.
After this one, I opted for a lighter YA novel experience with The Impossible Fortress, but Jason Rekulak, which was my April BOTM selection. Very much enjoyed the flashback experience of the 1980s with Billy Marvin and Mary Zelinsky. Stay tuned for a more in depth review to come hopefully next week.
Watching…
♥ Girls
Recently finished watching Girls as the series finale was a little over a week ago. Not sure how I felt about the ending in all honesty. One thing is for sure, I will be missing Lena Dunham and the “Girls” as they were always good for a laugh if nothing else here and there.
♥ The Detour
The Detour on TBS is also on my DVR. I must admit even though it is cable, but not HBO this show pushes the limits as far as what I would think they could get away with on a channel like TBS. But still quite enjoyable, especially the kids in this show. These kids are naive, but are quite the norm for kids there age if you ask me. Still have to watch the two part season finale on my DVR as I write this.
Listening…
Having gone to the Bon Jovi concert my friends when he was playing at MSG in NYC, I am still quite enjoying all the classics and some of his newer music, too.
Eating…
Haagen Dazs Ice Cream thanks to a recent coupon offer at my local Stop and Shop for $1 OFF…
Also, indulging in Dark Chocolate Pistachio Cookies, which I recently made and also shared on my blog with all, too…
Wearing…
My new Bon Jovi T-Shirt, which I splurged on at the concert.
Also, treated myself to a “fix” with Stitch Fix recently, which I plan on sharing more here hopefully soon.
Also, enjoying wearing my newest jewelry addition with my Helen Ficalora Mom Disk Necklace. If you missed the giveaway to get your own, click here to learn more…
Working…
On getting my content more in order on my blog with more DIY and recipe features in the coming months now. So stay tuned for all the great and varied stuff coming here soon.
Plus, I am also currently trying my best to keep our newest family addition, “Cupcake” Huldie the Goldfish alive as my previous track record with pet fish has been no bueno to say the least!
*Sad update to this one, Cupcake passed on a week to the date of getting her. I will say this, I actually didn’t feed or clean the bowl this time during the fish’s lifespan. I left that to my oldest and husband. So this time out, I had very little to do with its fate and still we are cursed with fish. Thank god, we fair better with dogs!
Dreaming…
Summer as it is literally right around the corner and can almost taste it now. Can you??
Planning…
Summer would be the answer once again to this one! See as much as I am dreaming about it, I am finally able to plan for all that we will be doing, especially Disney.
We are now less than 60 days out of our upcoming Summer trip and just recently reserved our FastPass experiences. No matter how many times we have been there before I never seems to get old.
On top of this, I have also booked some days in November for us to return for our youngest’s birthday. So, once I return from our July trip, I get to plan that trip. So, no Disney let down for us in the least this year even after the first trip is behind us.
Can you tell how excited I am for that?
Bev says
Yay for finally having warmer weather again! The beginning of May was rough. I just started watching 13 Reasons Why (on Mother’s Day, of all days) and I’m really into it. Currently reading “To the End of June,” about our foster care system, for my bookclub. I also just seem to have caught a hold, even though I was healthy throughout all of winter. Bummer! Hope you feel better and enjoy the weather!
Janine says
Aw, hope you feel better, too. I am seriously not sure though how I made it unscathed during the worst months of the year, but now I am sick. Weird, but guess I should just be thankful for small favors! Also, hope you will share your thoughts on 13 Reasons Why when you finish it, too.
Seana Turner says
I’ve been working, working, working! Everyone around here seems in the mood to get organized! I am also spending a whole 10 days with my youngest in the brief period she is home between school and her summer job at a far away university! Still binge watching, “The Good Wife.” As for eating, we are breaking out the grill now that summer finally feels like it is coming:)
Janine says
We just broke out the grill here, too in the last week. Seriously, just so happy it is more seasonable with temperatures finally this week π
AnnMarie John says
Sounds like you might also be suffering from allergies. I haven’t been doing too well with that this year either. As for the summer, we’re looking forward to meeting you and the girls this summer at Disney since we’ll be there at the same time. I think Madison would thoroughly enjoy meeting Lily and Emma.
Janine says
While do have allergies, this I think is a cold sadly. Just hope it is quick lived. And yes to summer at Disney and meeting up with you as I think my girls, too would have a blast with Madison!! π
Marilyn says
That First Holy Communion photo of your daughter is precious. She looks beautiful. The Easter photo of the girls is also lovely. Those dresses are gorgeous. Thanks for sharing these photos. Hope you are feeling better.

Janine says
Yes Cole Swindel is opening and we actually have awesome tickets. My husband spent a bit extra for Mother’s Day for that. And I know what you mean about the weather – just crazy!!!
Mary says
The girls look beautiful in their Easter dresses. Ahhh look at that sweet Motherβs Day present. I love you because you make the best foo and you help me when Iβm sad, now thatβs a compliment. Iβm dying to watch The Detour, it looks awesome. I met Bon Jovi at the Super Bowl a few years ago, he was so handsome and smelled so good I got a little star struck lol Those cookies look dangerous, I’m a sucker for dark chocolate.
Janine says
Omg, now I am jealous that you met Bon Jovi! Seriously that is awesome my friend and maybe someday!! π
Jennifer Bly says
Lovely pictures and a fabulous update my friend (with the exception of the loss of Cupcake).
You are certainly watching, reading, and listening to a variety of things lately! Diverse, you are!
Love the pictures! We’ve had up and down temperatures as well. I’m eager for summer to settle in 100%.
Thanks for sharing.
xoxo
Janine says
Aw, so happy to share and like you so very looking forward to summer getting and staying for a prolonged period now, too!! π
William Holland says
I’m exhausted just thinking about raising two little girls. I honestly don’t know how you do it AND work your job. A job well done, Janine! I’m late today, Farmers Market, on Wednesdays, but Happy Wednesday anyway.
Janine says
Aw, Happy Wednesday to you, too and hope it was a good one so far for you, too π
Tamara says
Paul McCartney!? Can I come?
And where I come from, Bon Jovi is king! So imagine you too because it’s not far at all!
The First Communion photo is so beautiful.
Janine says
Aw, if I could take you I seriously would. And yes Avon Jovi is pretty much king here in NY, too. Thank you, Tamara about the communion pic. I took it myself. So coming from you I am truly humbled π
Dara says
I’m jealous you got to see Bon Jovi! I look forward to seeing your stitch fix box. I want to do one soon!
Janine says
Dara, Bon Jovi was an awesome concert and experience. And I highly recommend Stitch Fix, too π
Jen says
Oh no cupcake passed! I’m so sorry. We just got a fish last week. Her name (maybe it’s a boy) is Finian.
Can you believe that May is almost over? How the heck did that happen?! Your girl’s confirmation dress is adorable. What a special memory.
Happy almost summer π
Janine says
Aw, happy almost summer to you, too. And hoping Finian lives a long happy, fish life now π
Rea says
I love Bon Jovi, Lady Antebellum, the dark chocolate pistachio cookies, and that flower art for mother’s day. π Cant believe it’s mid-May! Hope you guys are enjoying the month & hurray for many Disney trips for you.
Janine says
Aw, thanks, Rea and just so happy it is mid-May and summer is on its way now π
Aunt Gloria says

Allie G smith says
Cute Easter dresses. Congratulations on the First Communion. I love, love, love BonJovi! Unfortunately I missed them when they were here in February.
Janine says
Aw, thanks Allie and I finally got to see him. So one thing is crossed off my bucket list at least π
Christine Carter says
AW!! Love reading your currently posts, Janine and this one does not disappoint! I am ashamed to say I don’t know who Dierks Bently is… but I DO know the Paul McCartney concert will be AWESOME!!
I’m also THRILLED I won that giveaway and can’t WAIT to wear my necklace! I have NO special motherhood necklaces.. so that was just a true blessing for me to win it! <3
Janine says
Aw, again I am so thrilled it was you who won and so excited for you, my friend. Enjoy and hope to see a pic of you wearing it, as well π
Dana says
We love The Detour – we watch as a family. I’ll admit I cringe sometimes as my teenagers sit next to me. I know they are old enough, but I do fast forward through some of the racier parts.
Sounds like you have a great summer coming up, Janine!
Janine says
Dana, I finally saw the Finale this past weekend and definitely now can’t wait for the return of it next season. I agree about the racier parts, but thankfully my own kids are too young to watch with us.
