Two days after returning to reality after our annual Disney trip, our oldest turned 8.
Yes, my girl’s 8th birthday took place on July 17th.
My husband keeps bemoaning that he can’t believe that she is 8 and growing up now. While, I am trying to not dwell on that. He might be onto something as I felt like I just gave birth to her.
I mean I blinked and somehow here I am 8 years later!
But still time keeps marching on and my oldest is indeed 8 years old now. While in Disney, this same kid lost her 5th tooth while on Splash Mountain at Magic Kingdom. See my husband went on with her. He mentioned to the girl working the ride that it was her birthday. Then, he asked if they could sit up front as this was her wish for her birthday.
She got her wish, as well as another lost tooth by the end of that ride! Still it seems like I was only musing on my blog about her losing her 1st tooth. However, a cool story for her to share as the tooth fairy even visited her at Disney. **Special shout out to the young girl working at Magic Kingdom that gave me a free Tinker Bell pin complete with Pixie Dust, as well as the special button she made for her, as well.
But since she did celebrate another birthday, it is that time again. You may be wondering what I am talking about if you don’t follow this blog. But for those who do, then you are familiar with my birthday questionnaire posts for my girls.
So, below I am sharing the 8 year old edition for my oldest. Check out her answers now…
My Oldest’s Favorites at 8 years old:
1. Favorite Color: Pink (still)
As a toddler, my 8 year old was a huge fan of the color yellow. But in recent years, she has sworn that pink is it for her. I am pretty much convinced this is because that she knows that pink was and still is tops for me. But still, given the opportunity, my oldest girl will always opt for pink.
Like recently, we were offered new Magic Bands for Disney when we took the annual pass. We were told that we could choose a new color to switch off. I had to twist her arm to go with purple to have the option to indeed switch off. But still, should be interesting to see if she will wear the purple one. I guess time will tell!
2. Favorite Movie: Trolls
Both my girls absolutely adore the new Trolls movie. My oldest, though, loves Poppy with her pink hair (again pink!). While my younger rather prefers DJ Suki.
That said, both my girls, can sing all the songs and than some. We even had to watch this one for our first backyard movie night experience this summer, because of this.
3. Favorite TV Show: Elena
It was a year ago when we visited Disney World where Princess Elena was just being introduced to Magic Kingdom Park. We missed her royal coronation at the castle by a mere week.
However, when the show debuted, my oldest was obsessed. And even though, she is clearly growing up. Princess wise, my girl still has a special place for them. Plus, Princess Elena now seems to be her favorite.
So, when we returned to Disney this past month for our annual summer trip, her number wish list item was a Fast Pass to meet Princess Elena.
Well, thankfully, her wish came true. she even got to have a Bippity Bobbidi Makeover right before this meet and greet. Here she was made up to look like her favorite princess. Again, Disney dreams can certainly come true!
4. Favorite Book: Dork Diaries
At 8 years old, my girl reads on a 5th grade level already. She no longer reads picture books, but is into full fledged chapter books. Her favorite chapter book series is Dork Diaries. She has read quite a few already from this series and just thankful for her love of reading.
5. Favorite Song: Roar (still)
This one shocked me as my girl loves many different songs. But for some reason when I asked she told me Roar, by Katy Perry is still her favorite after all these years.
6. Favorite Thing to Drink: Water
I am constantly amazed as this kid could drink just about anything. But when asked her drink choice preference, she will always opt for cold water when in doubt.
Still, her favorite drink treat is a classic Shirley Temple. Because it is pink and also just that yummy, too!
7. Favorite Thing She Likes to Do: Paint and play with Barbie Dolls
Having a father, who is an artist I am not shocked that our girl loves to draw, doodle and even paint, too.
As for the Barbie Dolls, what can I say, but I loved mine as a young girl. So, I can indeed see her fascination on that, too.
8. Favorite Thing to Eat: Watermelon (But then again…)
Again, this young girl loves to not only drink healthy, but also eat healthy, too. She tends to enjoy the produce section of our grocery store more than anything else. She especially is a fan of fruits and veggies. But her favorite fruit just happens to be watermelon. And she still reminds me that as a baby she once carried a small watermelon all by herself. So, she is not only strong, but a smartie, too!
But then on second thought, she reminded me she loves pineapple. But her favorite pineapple treat is the Dole Whip at Disney’s Polynesian now!
And yet on third thought, she also just found a new favorite at a local ice cream/candy treat shop with the Queen Shake topped with Cotton Candy and more!
9. Favorite Animal: Dog
Thank god for small favors as yes we still have our doggie, Elsa.
So, makes sense that dogs are still tops for my oldest.
10. Favorite Thing to Wear: Watermelon Dress
Sticking with the watermelon theme, my oldest happens to have a watermelon sundress in her wardrobe that still fits her. So, of all the clothes she owns for all seasons, this one sundress happens to be on the top of her clothing list. God help me if next summer, she finally grows out of this one completely. I may have to do some searching for a new one to replace it!
But an honorable mention is her new outfit that her aunt bought her at Justice for her birthday. Finally she is wearing jean shorts as this is kid that swore she’d only wear skirts and dresses for years!
11. Favorite Job For When She Gets Older: Teacher or Popstar
In the spring, her school had their spirit dress-up week. One of the dress-up days had the kids pick their favorite future career and to dress for it. My oldest decided to wear her popstar costume dress.

So, she still mentioned popstar for this one. But teacher cropped up, as well. This former teacher wouldn’t mind that in the least. But still time will tell.

Time flies when you’re having fun but I would wish it would slow down when it comes to the kids. I couldn’t believe that Madison turned 5 this year and is on her way to Kindergarten myself. Don’t you wish we can have them little just a little bit longer? As for losing a tooth at WDW, Madison did that during our Christmas stay there and got a special surprise as well. Gotta love how Disney take care of the kids. Happy birthday again, and here’s to a big 9 next year. Can’t wait to see what has changed on her list.
Janine says
I am so with you on all of this. And as much as I am done with the baby years I still would like to slow down time just a bit here. And as far as Disney, they really do take care of the kids in all sorts of ways even more than I ever imagined. Thanks always my friend π

How…do we have eight-year-olds?? Her Check up is next week so we will see if she is still in the 2nd percentile for height!
Our girls could be twins. Scarlet loves pink and her favorite drink is water. It’s what she orders at restaurants.
Janine says
I am literally stumped on this, too! Oh and how I wish Scarlet and Emma could meet more than ever now. By the way, we have her checkup next week, too. So we shall see π

I just can’t believe Emma is the great 8! I feel like she was just a little girl and now she’s all grown up and reading chapter books. Her love of reading obviously comes from her mom and it’s so inspiring to me that we are raising passionate readers. Looks like such a special birthday. Happy birthday Emma!!!
Janine says
Thank you so much, Catherine and I know I am having a hard time believing Emma is already 8 years old here now. But honestly so proud of her on so many levels and especially with her love of reading π
