New Year’s the most interesting thing I will be doing is writing this post. Sad, but I am a mother to two little girls. There will be no late night parties for me, plus Kevin has to work New Year’s Eve, so probably just watch Ted on DVD. Among one of my Christmas presents was the Blueray DVD of Ted, because both Kevin and had wanted to watch this movie. So when I opened this present, Kevin announced that we could watch this on New Year’s Eve Night. So, technically we have a date, but in our very own living room on our (his) 60” TV.
But this is supposed to be a bit of a reflection of sorts from this past year. I truly didn’t start up writing seriously until June with first starting on Hubpages and then starting my blog at the end of the summer. I promised myself when I started that I would write daily and so far I have not missed a day. As I have said in the past this has been my sounding board and truly a place to let it all hang out, the good, the bad and the horrendous!!
Since I only starting to document my daily ramblings for a little less then four months my past year’s reflections may be a bit sketchy to recall, but I will try my best to remember the whole year. However, I will be honest I have mommy brain pretty bad at times and am truly lucky I remember my own name many days, but then again how could I forget, because I hear the word “Mommy” at least 1,000 times a day.
That said, I will try to recall January through December 2012, as best as possible for you.
January 2012:
Another year has just started. Emma is just about 2 1/2 year old now. She has finally begun to speak in sentences. She was our late bloomer in the speaking department, but hearing her speak in more than one or two word phrases was truly music to my ears. Also, just signed Emma up for pre-school for the following Fall.
February 2012:
Lily had about three ear infections already and was on number three already heading to number four. It seemed like I was at the doctor more times than I care to remember. And when I wasn’t at our pediatrician, I was at urgent care, because it was not during regular office hours. It was this month that she was prescribed a stronger antibiotic that she had an allergic reaction to making the poor thing poop every hour on the hour. I literally had to take her off the medicine and was told the following day that apparently the ear infection was indeed gone and nothing else had to be done.
March 2012:
A short break from illnesses and we had another family St. Patrick’s Day, which is a pretty big holiday around here, because Kevin is 100% Irish and his family makes a huge deal of this day.
April 2012:
Spring and Easter was finally here. Also, Lily was on ear infection number five, which this time was treated with drops, which were a pain in the ass to administer trying to keep an 18 month old still long enough to get the drops in her ear, but lo and behold they did work and no more ear infections were to be had for now.
May 2012:
Mother’s Day, Kevin’s 35th Birthday and Emma’s Dress Rehearsal for her first Dance Recital. The pictures that we had taken at Target of her were truly the best and she was so darn proud of herself it was amazing.
June 2012:
My 35th Birthday, Father’s Day and Emma’s Dance Recital. Seeing my baby on that stage was priceless. She danced her heart out and have to tell you I cried seeing her actually doing the dance with her class. This was when I first started up with Hubpages and began to write again, as well.
July 2012:
Emma’s 3rd Birthday, Our Family Trip to Nantic Beach, CT and our 6th Wedding Anniversary. We vacationed with Kevin’s whole family at a beach house that his cousin rented for a few days right before Emma’s Birthday. We literally came home from vacation and had her family party the very next day. A bit crazy and hectic, but totally worth it when she was so over excited for her special day.
August 2012:
Lazy, hazy days at my in-laws pool with Kevin and the girls. We enjoyed the rest of the summer and this was actually when I first began to blog. I started on Blogger and quickly went over to WordPress.com before settling in on WordPress.org with my own domain name.
September 2012:
Emma started pre-school for the first time and fall began. By this point, I was blogging everyday pretty much and truly loving every minute of it. Ironically, I feel like this month I have the least to put up in a recap. Yet, I documented so much of our daily life at this point!
October 2012:
Halloween, Visiting Hicks Nursery for Otto the Friendly Ghost Show, The Rise of the Jack O’Lanterns and Hurricane Sandy, too. Yes, as much as this month started out being about preparations for Halloween, it ended with a bang literally with losing our power for 2 days and nights from Hurricane Sandy. Though I shouldn’t be complaining, because others fared far worse, I will never take heat or electricity for granted again!
November 2012:
Coping with the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Lily’s Birthday. Because so much seemed to happen in such a short time span, I really felt like the month of November flew right by us. It felt like it was Halloween and then in the next breath November was over, but don’t think I will ever quite forget hosting the whole family for days on end when they had no electricity and heat for over a week’s time. Plus, this was the month my Lily turned two and she did it so gracefully!! On top of all of this, I blogged everyday as usual and wrote over 50,000 words for NaNoWriMo on my very first novel!!
December 2012:
If November went by in a blur, then December matched and surpassed it. Seriously, one minute it was December 1st, we were painting our room, preparing to put decorations up, having Gingerbread the Elf make his first appearance and then in a blink of an eye Christmas came and went. Seriously, I cannot believe this year is just about over, but before this month ended I hit my first ever payout for Hubpages. So, a big hooray for that!!

Great recap! I think you did a fine job remembering…I am not doing a recap post because to me it's sadly all a blur. Anyway, you should feel proud of what you accomplished this year, both professionally as well as a mom. Looking forward to what 2013 brings!
JanineHuldie says
Thanks Emily and thought I would have more trouble than I actually did especially the months before I started blogging, but amazingly most of it came back to me. So I guess my memory isn't as bad as I tend to think!! Totally looking forward to 2013, too to be able to share with you and everyone else 🙂

Great recap, Janine! I actually lived through most everything with your family and it was interesting and hectic. And you know it is a time honored tradition in your Nana's family to shave off a few years from my age…ha ha! Luckily most people are too old to remember my age, lol. Love you, Janine
JanineHuldie says
Thanks Mom and you know how much I very much appreciate your help with the girls. It is because of you that I able to remain sane in this crazy little person's world that I pretty much live in, lol!! Love you too 🙂 🙂

Love this new look, Janine! So very sweet and pretty! I remember and enjoyed so many of these posts, but for some reason the TV one always sticks in my head–and makes me laugh. Thanks for the flashbacks and here's to another year of your great posts 🙂
JanineHuldie says
Thanks Meredith, I was actually going for this look, because that is what little girls are, except for the craziness and madness at times, lol!! But seriously, glad you enjoyed and I too couldn't resist with the TV. Happy New Year again!!!

Have fun watching Ted tonight! My hubby and I just watched it and let's say it was hilarious…and also kinda disturbing lol. But a good movie to watch with the hubs!

Oh thanks letting me know Kera. I heard some good things, but always good to hear it from friends 🙂 🙂 Kind of excited (I know that probably sounds dorky), but a funny movie and Kevin is all I need tonight!!
