Band-aids are like crack for kids, especially mine. Seriously, before my husband and I had kids I might have bought one box of band-aids for my husband and myself. Just as we were celebrating our third wedding anniversary, we had our first baby.
Now three years later and having added one more baby to the mix as well, we have bought countless boxes of bandaids. If you have kids, you may just be able to follow this post. My kids don’t need to have any sign of an injury and still feel the need to take a band-aid and put it on themselves just for kicks.
Let me paint a picture for you if I may. Last week one evening, my girls were sitting on the floor together and had somehow managed to liberate or get their hands on a box of Dora the Explorer Band-Aids we had in our house.
Here is the addictive bandaids in question!!!Well by the time they were done, the floor looked like a band-aid factory had exploded right there. They had taken every band-aid out and had opened all the wrappers and were putting them all over themselves. I swear I couldn’t make this scene up if I tried and it was horrific. When asked what they were doing, I was told by Emma, “We have boo boos!” Seriously no one has that many boo boos, but apparently they believed they did and needed to secure as many bandaids as possible for said boo boos!
In the end, not one bandaid survived to live the tale of these two little girls carnage. And this was just one incident on a daily basis, I have lost count how many times a day I am asked for a bandaid. I am sure they love the fact that these bandaids do have their favorite characters, such as Dora (stated earlier), Barbie, Hello Kitty, Disney Princess, Tinker Bell, Mickey Mouse, The Muppets and I could go on all day with the different character band-aids I have bought for them to use.

Now having written this here, it may be my fault for their habit or addiction for band-aids by having enabled them. In the end, I guess I am what you call a band-aid enabler and should probably stop doing this. I wonder if there is a 12 step program to recover from this addiction, because my girls would surely qualify!
And it looks like these kids may qualify too:
Teresa Davis says
I know exactly what you mean..my grandbaby has at least 4 different boxes of band-aides at my house. I have found then stuck on the mirrors, dolls and even the tv lol.
JanineHuldie says
Teresa, thank you for sharing and I too have lost count how many band-aids we have found stuck to surfaces in our house. One night I actually was walking barefoot and couldn't understand why my foot felt like something was sticking to it. I bent down and it was a piece of one of their bandaids!! Yup, this is my life, lol!!
JanineHuldie says
Kelly, as mothers, don't we always carry a ton with us, including bandaids. So can relate to that even now that I don't carry a diaper bag anymore, my pocketbook has it all and then some. Thanks and glad that you could relate π
Stacy Harris says
I am surprised… my kids don't fall for the healing powers of band-aids…. however the magic of a kiss works much better for that. I can say that my husband actually ends up using more band-aids than the kids. I guess that is a good thing since band-aids can be pretty pricey! π I do however see my son starting to get into the band-aid addict stage. He never wanted them before but lately he has been asking for them… oh no! π
JanineHuldie says
Thanks Stacy and you can count yourself lucky not to be a part of the crazy world of band-aids with kids, because I have literally wasted more money on them in the last few months that I think I did in a lifetime! I love how you say your husband actually uses more and trying to picture that, lol!!
JanineHuldie says
Bill, you would probably be right about there indeed being a 12 Step Program for this too seeing that there is for just about everything else!! Thanks for sharing about your son loving Spider-Man band-aids too. Thank you as always π π
Emily (OhBoyMom) says
It's funny because I started singing that band-aid commercial to myself before I realized you posted it! Love that ad and loved your post too! My boys liked character band-aids too when they were younger, and we still keep a package of Toy Story band-aids around for my 8-year old, who still prefers to wear a Buzz Lightyear one over a boring plain old band-aid.:)
JanineHuldie says
Thank you Emily. When I starting to write this and kept writing the word band-aid over and over that song just popped in mind too and just couldn't get it out so it was only fitting that I included it here, lol!! Loved hearing out your 8 year old sin's love of Buzz Lightyear here too π π
Melanie Chisnall says
Things have certainly changed when we were kids, hey? I remember we only had those horrible brown plasters – which we still buy…and now look at today's supermarket shelves (and your bathroom floor!), lol! So very cute. I enjoyed reading and look at all the different cartoon characters on the plasters (band aids).
JanineHuldie says
Melanie, don't you know it. Times definitely are different right down to the different character band aids that are just abundant in whatever drugstore or grocery shop you go to!! That said you just brought back memories of days gone by with those ugly brown band aids!! Seriously, thanks π π
JanineHuldie says
Audrey, if I had any left for the mayhem the other night, would have sent some your way, lol!! Thanks π π
JanineHuldie says
Julie, thanks for telling me that, because I truly was starting to wonder how we are going through some many band aids daily now, lol π
Cyndi says
Haha. Though I don't have kiddos, my sis-in-law told me that you're the "cool mom" when you have cool band-aids. Haha. So, you must be a cool mom. π They LOVE band aids at that age, don't they? Hehehe.
JanineHuldie says
Lol, Cyndi. Thank your sister for me, because most days I do feel anything, but cool. Nice to hear though I may very well be because of the bandaids I buy π π
gigigirl says
A good stock to buy…..I'll look into it!
Christy says
LOL amazing the types of band-aids out there!
JanineHuldie says
I know Christy. It is truly insane all the different character band-aids. They have half an aisle practically with all of them!! Thank you as always π
Amy says
We have the same problem here and god forbid we are out of tinkerbell band-aids! Very funny post.:)
JanineHuldie says
Amy, we just bought Tinkerbell too and all I heard for the last three days is, "Mommy I need another Tinkerbell band-aid!" No joke I am starting to hear this in my sleep, lol!! Thanks π
JanineHuldie says
Oh I know Aunt Gloria. Got to remember that for the future lol π Thanks!!
christine says
I created the opposite problem. When I was a new mom, I bought the characters and we were going through way too many. Besides the kids wanting them all the time, they didn't stick all that well when there really was a boo-boo. To curb the problem, I bought those brown ones Melanie was talking about. We found that those stick really well and hurt when you take them off. Now, my kids could be bleeding out and they'd still scream that they don't want a band-aid. I'm so uncool.
JanineHuldie says
Christine, wow you really took care of this problem and can only imagine your kids not wanting anything to do with band-aids after having only the ugly sticky brown to use, lol π
JanineHuldie says
Richard, you are too funny and truly loved the way you described me here. I need to hire you for PR or at least as my lawyer, lol!! Thanks π
Michelle Liew says
Not to worry, they'll outgrow this band aid fascination. They'll just have to find something else that fascinates them (like boys for example!) Seriously, being a mum is never easy, and thanks for looking at it with a sense of humor.
JanineHuldie says
Michelle, so true about finding something else to obsess over in the future. As for the humor, I need to laugh otherwise I might go straight up crazy, lol π Thanks!!
Debbie - Wrinkled Mo says
You Band-aid enabler you! lol
I know what you mean though. My kids want a band aid for anything that hurts even if there is nothing visably there!
JanineHuldie says
Lol, Debbie thank you for also letting me know that I am not alone and that your kids too love band-aids too even if as you put it there isn't anything visibly there!! Thanks for stopping by, reading and sharing too π
