Timing is everything with small kids and husbands, too. My girls and my husband are notorious for choosing the worst of times for just about anything. Take for instance how bedtime is usually a fiasco and a half around these parts. We were even told, when saying that it was indeed bedtime from Emma, “That is not a good idea!” She is only three years old. So, what does she know about good ideas?
Apparently though, Gingerbread the Elf wasn’t quite doing his job as well as this momma had hoped, but never mind that right now. Last night, I was getting the girls ready for bed after another long day of temper tantrums and Emma even trying to eat play dough at school. Yes, I went to pick her up, was told she was found with play dough in her mouth and that the teacher helped her take it out and clean her mouth. Got to love three year olds and yet again the way their minds work (never have I thought let me eat play dough and see how this tastes).
Did I mention that Kevin was now beginning to paint our room (because the sooner the room gets painted the sooner the TV can get picked up and displayed) and of course nicked the corner of our dresser (yes our brand new bedroom furniture) with the round metal button on the pocket of his jeans (getting told this will be a blog post!)? Thank god for furniture markers, because if not Kevin’s TV might have had a nick in it when brought home (sorry, couldn’t resist and feel slightly better now!). But seriously I was now just a bit aggravated. Yes, folks this is my life and you can’t have it!!
Anyway, back to bed time though. Both girls used the toilet (Emma at least didn’t fight this, but of course Lily did and as soon as she sat down peed on the toilet, so the good fight was apparently for nothing (and once again when are they going to learn mom knows best). Now, they both brushed their teeth, but of course Emma needed to wash her hands and decided to fall off the toilet cover now while she tried to stand on it as a step stool of sorts. Here came the tears and have to admit was not feeling so sorry for her, because she has been told over and over not to do this, but chose this moment to again not to listen. Wonder if now she will learn from this mistake, but I digress, because sure her short term memory will hold and she will try this one yet again at some point.
Once done with the bathroom, my girls are told by yours truly to get into bed, while I went into the kitchen to grab something. I was only gone for less than a minute (a minute too long) and when I came back Lily had Emma’s Ceramic Precious Moments Ballerina Music Box given to her from Kevin’s mother at her first dance recital last June. Of course it was not in one piece and the piece she had is the base, but the ballerina was no where to be found and snapped off. I am seriously seeing the color red right now. and steam is billowing out of my ears. Kevin moved some things around and finally the ballerina was located. He finished putting them to bed at this point, while here I was at 9:30 at night gluing a ballerina back onto her music box.
Seriously folks, are you sure you don’t want to trade lives for a day or buy two little beasts, who are for sale real cheap? Ok, I am just teasing, but damned if I know how these two who have the faces of angels could get into so much mischief. I am truly baffled and so tired. But not to worry, tomorrow is another day and sure they will find more excitement for me then.
And for those who want to enter a wonderful contest to wish the Winter Blues Away, you can do so right here (I did and thought I would share with all of you):

I'm pretty pleased with my life right now, Janine! Maybe some other day when I'm feeling frazzled, I'll consider trading with you. π Play dough?
JanineHuldie says
Thanks Bill and think you definitely deserve to be pleased and happy with your life and are excused from trading places with me. That said, yes play dough and couldn't even make that up if I tried, lol!!
cyndi says
Oh man, you sound like there's never a dull moment. Hats of to you – you're doing great and managing all these blog posts! You're awesome!
JanineHuldie says
Oh thanks Cyndi. I just answered your another comment and it boils down to the same thing really it is never dull, but never a free moment it seems, but I just try to make the most out of what time there is I suppose. Seriously try, lol!! π
Ruchira says
haha…you know Janine you will miss all this when your kids grow up. I wish I had been blogging about my kid when he was toddler. Now, he is all grown up (9 yrs) and corrects me …lol
The dancing figure is adorable and I am glad it got glued back π
JanineHuldie says
Thanks Ruchira and trust me Emma is constantly telling me that she is a big girl. So I know the feeling, believe me, lol π

Thanks Kelly and I offered to trade. If you miss it you could totally take them even for a day, lol. Seriously though I know I will miss this in the long run, but right now I can't even see the forest for the trees!!
Emily (OhBoyMom) says
I have many days when I feel I've taken the "Bad Route" road (is that a real street sign BTW?), so I can relate to your frustrations. Just last night, I didn't get my 3 boys to bed until 10pm…oh wait, that happens almost every night…ugh!
JanineHuldie says
Thanks Emily, not sure if it is a real road or not, but thought it fit perfectly with the way I truly feel many times during the day. Your boys bedtime could rival my girls. No joke they fight it until the very last minute asking for chap stick, tissues, water, you name it!!
Stephanie Sprenger says
Oh man do I feel your pain! I am exhausted by bedtime and even more tired and cranky by the time it wraps up. I do feel like we are on a sitcom sometimes…
JanineHuldie says
Stephanie, I am with you on feeling like I live in a sitcom from time to time. Thanks seriously for sharing that I am not the only one living in the nut house, lol!!
Kevin says
On behalf of Lily, Emma and I we would like to say "Your Welcome." For if it was not for us, you would have nothing to write about. I don't any of your friends would tune into your daily rambling if it was not for our zany antics. Luv you and we expect royalties.
JanineHuldie says
Kevin, you would say that and seriously cannot even fathom how you three think sometimes (you being the ring leader). That said, here is the one and only time I will say this thanks for bringing under chaos and craziness into my life, enough said!!
Stacy Harris says
Oh my goodness…. sounds like a hectic day. My kids have been getting on my nerves lately… something fierce. I am ready for vacation!
JanineHuldie says
Oh so true Stacy. Not only hectic, but they have been extra crazy (blaming the full moon on it!). But seriously thanks and sorry your kids too have been acting up.
Insomniac's Dre says
Wow, bedtime sounds very hectic in your house! I have two boys, older, and it's always a fight, mostly them battling each other. It's the time of year, though with all the Santa threats, you'd think kids would behave!
JanineHuldie says
Thanks Insomniac's Dream for letting me know that it isn't only my little girls who fight bed time. I totally agree that at this time of the year with the Santa threats that they would behave better!!
gigigirl says
I'm exhausted reading about bedtime at your house! The girls know how to keep you on your toes! One day, these will all be memories remembered with a smile…..for now,….hang in there! Lots of love to all…..
JanineHuldie says
Thanks Aunt Gloria and I was exhausted writing it, but just had to share. That said I know one day I will indeed look back on this and indeed probably smile, but right now that seems a bit far off. Love to you as always!!
JanineHuldie says
Thanks Melanie and I have to agree as much as they make me want to kill myself in the moment, they are definitely good writing material, lol!!
Leslie says
Oh goodness, not fun at all! Thanks for linking up to Mommy Cubed!
Janine Huldie says
