Why is it that when little kids are tired and need sleep, they turn into little beasts? No joke my kids can go hours being fine, playing and totally entertaining themselves, but the moment they begin to need a nap or go to bed at night, they literally become animals.
Today, I got a ton of work actually done while my girls were playing and watching TV in the earlier portion of the day. Yes, I had the TV on, but they were being quiet and letting me work, so it truly was a necessary evil. Anyway, back to me working. I finally got an idea and inspiration for a new Hubpages article and was so very excited, if you want to read the article click here. I thought I would start it and could always finish it later.
But guess what? My girls were actually behaving. I got a good portion of my article written and it wasn’t even lunchtime yet. Lunchtime, did arrive and they were still being so good (almost too good!). I made lunch and then they set down to eat. Emma had to use the bathroom, but still wasn’t giving me a hard time by any means. Lily ate quickly and had her chocolate milk, too. Then, she was back to playing. Emma was still eating, having her chocolate milk and taking her time, but still not being a bother. I wrote away through the early afternoon.
At around 12:30, I asked Emma to use the bathroom, before she was to lay down for her nap. My mommy instinct told me today was not a day to skip a nap, since we had skipped naps for a few days now with all of our unpowered company. She decided to kick and scream for about two minutes about my request. I told her she better calm down and of course she didn’t. My mom was there too and tried to help by telling Emma to go in the bathroom with her and that only made her more vocal, until finally I had to stop what I was doing and confront her. Of course she cried the whole time, she was indeed in the bathroom. But guess what? She did have to go to the bathroom. Proving mother does know best from time-to-time!
Once she was done, she still was crying and I told her to apologize to her grandmother and then get into bed to take a nap. No if’s, end’s or but’s about it! Again, she protested heavily, laid in bed, crying and screaming until it just stopped. Somehow within 20 minutes, both Emma and Lily were asleep.
By the way, I had lunch, finished and published my Hubpages article, caught up on e-mails and stuff and even wrote this blog article. All-in-all, a very productive day after a week of not so much in the way of being productive. But seriously, I was again knew my kids were so very in need of naps and almost an hour and a half later and I haven’t heard a peep from their bedroom. Proving yet again mother does truly know best (sometimes anyways!).
Now watch an adorable video of two little girls having a tea party with Modern Family’s Julie Bowen:
