“She did it!!” This was Emma’s pre-school teacher when I went to pick her up from school today. So you might be asking, what did she do? Well those that have followed my blog regularly have heard all about my kids and their potty time.
Well, at three years old, Emma is fully potty trained, but she was always afraid to use the regular toilet without her princess potty seat insert. I even wrote about her dilemma here.
Everyday since school began this year, I would drop Emma off for school with her backpack and a reusable, recyclable bag with her princess potty seat. The school had allowed this, but it had to be taken with her to school and then taken back with us every night when she came home.
Her teachers have been working with her to overcome this fear, because the toilet at school is a smaller version and very close to the ground. I have noticed over the last two weeks that she no longer uses a step stool and that was apparently brought on by the realization that she doesn’t need it at school.
Well back to today. Apparently when she told the teachers that she needed to use the bathroom, they went with her and asked if she was ready to try it without the potty insert. Guess what? She did just that.
She came out of class when the teachers told me (as I stated earlier) will a huge smile on her face and was wearing a huge ribbon sticker to commemorate the moment. Driving home, she told me that she was a big girl and was going to use the toilet at home without the potty seat, too.
We, then, called dad to tell him all about this on the way home and again she was beaming when she told Kevin that in her words, “She is a big girl now.”
When we did get home, she did indeed show me how she can use the toilet just like a ‘big girl’ and even told me that the princess seat is now Lily’s, because according to Emma, “Lily still needs it”.
So I guess, there will be no more of these types of fights over the princess potty seat. But no worries, I am sure they can find something else to fight over, because the day is still young and that is how they roll!! But one thing is for sure, my baby is now a ‘big girl’ and growing up right before my very eyes.
