What am I thankful for? I have seen this theme time and again this week, because in truth it is the week of Thanksgiving and most people in the US do celebrate this National Holiday. Well, in my house not only is it Thanksgiving this week, but my baby is leaving the Toddler stage behind and entering the pre-school age range. Lily will be 2 years old on this Friday, otherwise known as Black Friday in the US.
I remember being pregnant with her two years ago at this time. Granted I was in a ton of pain the last few days having started back labor the weekend before, but I will leave that story to her birth story that I have to get to sharing here tomorrow on her actual birthday. However, I had her before Thanksgiving due to the way the calendar fell back in 2010, so that particular year she was absolutely the best present I could have ever been given right around Thanksgiving time and the most thankful thing that I have ever had the pleasure to also happen to me at this time of the year, too.
So, how do I show thanks to my kids on their birthdays? Well, we have family parties of course, but I also make a character cake each year to celebrate, as well. The character cakes are usually popular kids characters that my girls are in love with at that stage in their lives. I love seeing the looks on their little faces when they recognize their favorite character. It really is a trip to see their reactions and see it through their eyes for the first time.
So I thought since it is Thanksgiving, I would make this a light-hearted post and share these different cakes that I have made and decorated thanks to pre-made molds, icing and tips, too.
By the way, Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate this holiday today and Happy Birthday tomorrow to my amazing 2 year old, Lily!!
So with out further ado, here are the cakes so far:

Lol, Vikki, they were made from a mold, because there was no way I could make the cake that shape, but I did decorate the cakes with colored icing and tips. Trust me, I am no Martha Stewart, but loved these pans, because they make baking these types of cakes so very easy. Vikki, the brownies were so my speed though before I got married. I really try to do my best, but let's not forget how I screwed up cake pops with very little ease, lol π Happy Thanksgiving!!

First of all, those cakes are UNBELIEVABLE!! You could start a side business with that talent of yours…wow! And, Happy Birthday to Lily! We too have birthdays in our house this time of year. My youngest son's birthday is on November 25th, which is also my husband's birthday (best gift he ever got!). The year he was born, we were hosting Thanksgiving, which was on the 27th that year. So, I came home from the hospital with my new baby and to 25 people who we insisted still come to our house for the holiday. Luckily, my MIL took charge and cooked for all, but it was a CRAZY day! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

Oh thank you so very much Emily and if I had the time maybe, but seriously with everything else I don't how or when I could fit this one in, too. Maybe someday. Happy Birthday to your youngest son, too. I can totally relate, I had Lily 2 days before Thanksgiving and brought her home Thanksgiving Eve. (Wednesday). I thank god my MIL still does up a huge spread for Thanksgiving. So, we went there and I didn't have to do a thing bless her soul, but have everyone just in love with the newest member of our family (Lily). Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!!

You are so talented with your cakes… I can't figure out how to use those decorating tubes to save my life. Have a wonderful thanksgiving and enjoy your daughters wonderful birthday tomorrow!
JanineHuldie says
Thanks so much Stacy and it took me time and trust me I still have my blonde moments with those damn tubes and tips, but it is so worth it when I see the looks on their faces (my girls). Hope you and your family had a nice Thanksgiving, too!!
JanineHuldie says
Thank you so very much Richard and truly can't say that enough. As for the icing, let's hope not, because this momma needs her sleep, too lol!!
JanineHuldie says
Thanks Dianna and still have that mold and hope to use again in the future for another event for one of my girls π And hope you too had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
JanineHuldie says
Oh thank you so much Eddy and hope you do get to try these for your grandkids. The pans are so easy to use and one you get the hang of the tips, it really is fairly easy!! Have a wonderful Friday as always and thanks again π π
JanineHuldie says
Oh thank you so very Cloudy. Yes, I did make these cake, but in all fairness, I used a pan in the shape and then followed the directions on how to decorate the cakes on the enclosed paperwork with the pans. So I didn't create them from scratch or anything, because I am not that talented, lol!! The Hello Kitty Cake, was probably the easier, as long side Mickey, because their weren't as many colors to have to mix to decorate. If I can do it, I am sure your ill do just fine and am rooting for you in March π π
