Pam Moore says
I know, I go through the same thoughts whenever I think of moving..
Another place seems so great until you start to really consider all the
dimensions of what that means. Having lived in four different places
now, I would have to agree, there is no place like home! (When home =
where your peeps are!)
Janine Huldie says
Thanks so much Pam for sharing. I only lived in two different homes and one apartment (when we first got married) over 35 years and I guess I may be stuck in my ways a bit, but I can't help feeling there truly is no place like home!! π
Bill says
Don't let earthquakes keep you from San Diego. Those of us who live in earthquake country don't even think about them.
Where would I live…near Yellowstone. Great scenery and snow in the winter. π
Have a great weekend.
Janine Huldie says
Yellowstone sounds amazing and beautiful. And thank you Bill for trying to waylay my earthquake fears. You too have a wonderful weekend!! π
Stephanie Sprenger says
OK, you raise a good point about the tropical climates and hurricanes… Hmm, back to the drawing board for me!
Janine Huldie says
Sorry about that Stephanie, but after Hurricane Sandy, I am so not living through another hurricane if I can help it!!
Jean Heff says
New York is a pretty great place to live, despite all the recent weather issues. I chose Hawaii, I guess I can deal with the volcanoes!
Janine Huldie says
I just saw your choice of Hawaii on you blog and totally did sound perfect. Thanks Jean!! π
Emily says
You sound just like me…I too rule out places because of the possibilities of natural disasters. When we vacationed in California this past February, we loved it and talked about moving there, but then I thought about those earthquakes…there really isn't any perfect place to live or at least I haven't discovered it yet.
Janine Huldie says
Honestly, Emily glad to know it isn't just me who thinks in these terms now more then ever after the hurricane. Never want to go through that again!!
Kristi Campbell says
I can't believe you included a whole fault thing for California. So funny. And yeah, I hear you. Although I've spent a lot of time in San Diego and it's pretty darn awesome.
Janine Huldie says
Lol, Kristi!!! The teacher in me couldn't resist. But I would love to visit San Diego just not when an earthquake may occur. Have had enough of natural disasters to last me a lifetime!
Melanie Chisnall says
Hehehe, our blogs are a little similar today – well, with the earthquakes and what not. I also mentioned home in mine. Home sweet home. But it's nice to dream! Happy Friday! π
Janine Huldie says
Melanie, totally nice to dream and heading to your blog in a moment now!! π
Robin Rue says
Tooo funny that you specifically mentioned San Diego and earthquakes. I am heading there today as a matter of fact and part of me is hoping for a mini earthquake while I am out there. JUST a mini one. I've never felt one before.
Janine Huldie says
Have fun and I will hope for just a mini one just for you, Robin!! π
Janine Huldie says
Oh so true Clark and cannot wait for your addition to see what you come up with. Thanks you as always my friend!! π
The Next Step says
Does it count if I just want to run away? Cause that's what I wrote about today. π
Janine Huldie says
Totally counts Lori and heading there now to check it out!! π
The Next Step says
I added a bit at the bottom, just for you! π
Janine Huldie says
Loved it!! And so glad you are linking this up with us!! π
Dani Ryan says
I would take anywhere that doesn't have cold, miserable weather like we're experiencing here today. But nothing TOO humid as my hair can't handle it!
Janine Huldie says
So with you on this one Dani and right down to my hair that frizzes. As I already told you it isn't pretty, lol!! π
Michelle Liew says
And I would want to live somewhere colder. I think we need a more balanced temperature! Neat, janine!
Janine Huldie says
Blanaced would be nice for a change Michelle!! Thanks as always!!! π
Cyndi says
I've run the gamut of places to live, too. I grew up in Colorado and tried to move back after spending years away (and living in NC) and didn't enjoy it. At all. So back to NC I went and I LOVE, LOVE it here. The winters are 4 months of dreary, cold, rainy, snowy days and it's depressing, but for that you get 8 months of gorgeous flip-flop-wearing weather and I'll deal with the 4 months to get the beauty the rest of the year. We do get hurricanes that come through WNC every once in awhile (Frances and Ivan were tropical storms by the time they hit here). But, I'll take it. I thought of Florida, too, but I knew I'd miss the actual seasons. π
Janine Huldie says
Sounds like you too are right where you belong Cyndi!! π
Kerri Ames says
Ha! You are just like me, finding the scary in every place π
Janine Huldie says
Kerri, sounds like I am in good company though!! π
Lanaya @ Raising Rea says
Out of all your choices and staying away from dramatic weather I would probably choose Arizona ~ that's what AC and an inground pool are for ~ with a covered patio with misters!!! And cocktails … lots of frothy cocktails!

Janine Huldie says
The cocktails sound delicious right about now and the pool sounds too good to be true. Plus I would b closer to your neck of the woods!! π xoxo!!
Janine Huldie says
Wisconsin, would be nice for two reasons you are there and so is Donna. Not going to lie, but don't get to see her enough, so it would be nice to get to see her more. But tornadoes definitely don't warm my heart! That said, I do love NY having lived here my whole life, but could live without winter and hurricanes, too. And I know what you mean about family, Lisa. And again so very sorry for your loss.
Chris HyeThymeCafe says
The weather is always my first thought when it comes to where to live too. I grew up in MA – too cold and too much snow; moved to New Orleans – waaaaay to hot/humid, not to mention the floods (left after Katrina); visited FL several times but too hot/humid there as well, then there are earthquake zones, tornado zones, you name it. Everyplace has something "special" when it comes to weather. New Jersey is starting to sound pretty good to me at this point – mild temps, not as much snow, still on the east coast …
Janine Huldie says
If you do see her soon, please tell her I said hi!! I can totally imagine though that it could be hard not seeing your family as much and we were throwing around possibly moving away when we first got engaged that was the one thing holding me back.
Janine Huldie says
Oh that does stink about not getting to go back for get togethers, but you are right that you at least have your two cousins there. And I will be seeing Auntie Anne and Aunt Gloria next Wednesday, when the snow birds return. Very excited and happy to get to see them now!! π
Janine Huldie says
Chris, I am so not sure where it is truly perfect weather wise. I live on Long Island in NY and not too far from NJ and still too cold for me in the winters, but that is just me. I love the warm weather, but I do still love NY. So, it truly is a crap shoot for me as to where would be the perfect place.
Maggie Amada says
You could try Aruba. It's perfect except for the fact it's close to Venezuela and there's nothing to do after about a week. I think, like you, I'll stick with New York for now. At least it's interesting.
Janine Huldie says
Oh so true Maggie, NY is definitely not dull and always something interesting is going on!! π
Ruchira says
Hawaii sure is a wonderful place to live in…I like how you gave arguments over each place π honestly, no place is safe…life is uncertain everywhere.
TGIF!
Voted for you π
Janine Huldie says
Never been to Hawaii, but my parents went when we were kids and my mom always says how it was truly like paradise. That said you are right about no place bing truly safe and life is definitely uncertain. Thanks for always being so kind with the votes and all!! π
SarahA says
I love the totally scientific chart you included. A girl after my own heart! π I have the same issues about different places. I like Iowa but could do without tornadoes. I'm scared to death of them and for good reason!
I couldn't participate this week but I pimped you guys as much as possible!
Janine Huldie says
Oh thank you so much Sarah for the pimping and loved your post today (totally understand why you couldn't link up). And yes I am so not a fan of tornadoes either and also for a good reason!!
Kelly Umphenour says
Janine…how do you DO IT? I just need to know what you're eating for breakfast!
I used to wish I lived by the ocean but seeing all the issues in the last year with hurricanes, tidal waves, flooding – I was relieved after all that I do not have a threat of that. I decided being tucked into the middle of he earth in the Midwest isn't so bad after all!
Janine Huldie says
Lol, Kelly I am so not sure, but I just keep plugging along. That said I am with you on being tucked nicely away in the midwest after Hurricane Sandy makes total sense!!
Christy Birmingham says
I do love where I live, in the mild climate of Canada's west coast. I have been to New York and did love the skylines and architecture. I think we always have fantasies about living elsewhere xx Happy Friday!
Janine Huldie says
So true Christy, I think it is the grass is always greener connotation for this one by far. Thanks as always and have a great weekend, too!! π
Break the Mom Mold says
And then there's Hilton Head, he he. Although they do get hurricaines sometimes, for some reason the way the island is situated they are protected and receive very little damage, even Hugo (class 4), which was a direct hit, caused no real physical damage, just an evacuation. So….you might want to reconsider π
Janine Huldie says
Might have to. Seriously no place is safe, lol!!!
Suzanne Cooke says
Great giveaway, I love seeing reviews for the children.
Janine Huldie says
Oh thanks Suzanne and hope entered!! π
Kera says
Lol I guess there are good and bad things about every place! I wrote a post for FTSF this week and am going to post it to the Mommy Blog Hoppers for my day tomorrow. I had two places where I'd rather live instead of dreary New York these days! The weather right now isn't helping lol.
Janine Huldie says
Oh Kera can't wait to see where you picked. And am so with you on the weather, especially today with pouring rain and wind again!!
Roshni Aamom says
We haven't had an earthquake in eons!! Come on over!! π
Janine Huldie says
If I could I so would, Roshni!! π
ttoombs08 says
Have you considered Belize? It's actually one of the top destinations to retire to and the cost of living is very very good. And the weather is to die for!
Janine Huldie says
No I haven't and thank you for sharing this. When I am some day ready to retire, will have to keep this in mind, Terrye!! π
Joy says
How about Australia or New Zealand? Maybe that would be an option?
Janine Huldie says
Those could definitely be possibilities. Thanks, Joy!! π
Kenya Johnson says
That's pretty much how I would have answered it. I've have pretty much lived on the east coast my whole life. I am scared to pieces of night storms. I read a book called Eyewall and it increased my fear of hurricanes. Sandy was so close to us and we just had to trust what the weather reports said that it wasn't coming to NC. But in the book Eyewall, the hurricane center had taken a gamble and didn't want to get everyone in an evacuation uproar. It wasn't a true story but it was SO real in the "that could happen" kind of way.
Janine Huldie says
Wow, that does sound very scary and after living through Sandy I am petrified of hurricanes. If they ever say another is coming our way, I think I may just have to go somewhere else to ride it out, because I truly don't want to have to go through that again. Hope you are having a great weekend, Kenya!!
Joan Veronica Robert says
Lovely post! I would invite you to Chile's sunny north, but we have earthquakes! I really don't recommend them at all, at all.
Janine Huldie says
Oh thanks for the invite Joan and may take you up someday, but as long as no earthquakes were indeed occurring! π
Melissa S. says
If it weren't for the weather, I reckon, everywhere would be a perfect place to live. But then what would we complain about? π
Janine Huldie says
Oh so true. I am sure I can think of something to complain about if you gave me a chance though, lol!! π
