Even though it just snowed here again in the last few days, I know spring is right around the corner.
For one, we changed the clocks this past weekend. So, it is now Daylight Savings Time once again. Plus, the first official day of spring is only a few short days out on March 20th!
Therefore, warmer weather has to eventually find us one way or another. That being said, I have definitely indulged this past winter. So, I am in need of ways to keep myself back in shape and lose a few pounds to fit back comfortably into my spring and summer clothes.
For this reason, I thought I’d share some ways I am planning on helping myself get back in shape. Plus, I figure in this way I could pay it forward to help other parents do so, too.
Now, stay tuned for my 5 surefire ways to help all parents get fit this upcoming spring…
1. Go Walking with or without a buddy.
The weather is hopefully beginning to heat up. While many of us (myself included) hibernate in the colder, winter weather months, now is the time to get back outdoors. One my favorite things to do in the spring is to just take walks around my local neighborhood. Sometimes I do this solo, while other times I go with a friend or family member to enjoy the beautiful springtime weather. So, to me I would say the number one thing on my healthier to-do list is walking outdoors in the spring.
2. Play outdoors with your kids.
While walking is a great way to exercise outdoors, getting physical outdoors with your kids is also a great way to get spring fit. Such activities as jumping rope, hopscotch, or even a game of tag are fun ways for parents to enjoy time with their kids, but also a way to help get in shape for the nicer weather. You can also go biking with your kids, which is a great way to explore the outdoors and get some great exercise! Just make sure you have good quality bike tyres, and you can find out more here if you’re having trouble.
3. Don’t sacrifice sleep.
If you have babies, you may be thinking I sound crazy. However sleep is something all our bodies need. Probably is easier for someone like myself that is clearly out of the baby stage by a few years with my kids to say. But still, if you do have babies try to get a nap in if possible when your baby naps as sleep really is a wonderful way to help your body feeling and looking healthier this spring.
4. Don’t forget to keep hydrated.
If sleep is important, so is drinking plenty of water. Water helps us not only remain healthy but also can help in curbing one’s appetite to keep them feeling a bit fuller. Plus, water is also a wonderful way to re-hydrate after being active and exercising.
5. Eat healthy, but treat yourself when necessary.
Naturally if you want to get into shape eat healthy is essential and important way to do so. But don’t forget that sometimes it is OK to cheat every so often and indulge a bit. Plus, cheating doesn’t have to mean that the meal or even snack has to be completely unhealthy for you.

I’m a big believer in sleep & water! If I’m feeling sleepy, sometimes I just drink a big glass of water and wait 15 minutes to see if that takes care of it. I’m ready to get outside – melt, snow, melt!
Janine says
I am with you on the last of the snow melting and the water, too!! π

The first day of Spring symbolizes the first day of my summer body challenge. I donβt do anything crazy, just watch what I eat, count my water intake, and rev up my workout. Ok maybe that sounds crazy but for me, it’s a yearly ritual that I enjoy. My body tends to respond well to my Healthy Spring changes, and my girlfriends usually jump on board which makes it much easier.
Now that Iβm in a new area I plan on walking every day to explore my neighborhood, on top of my workouts. Walking is such a fun way to stay active. Iβm also working on sleeping more. Iβve been passing out on my couch every night, and thatβs not a good habit to maintain. Last night I got in bed by 10 did some reading and watched a few youtube videos on marketing then fell asleep by 11 and woke up at 6:30 refreshed, sleep is so important. Have a great week Janine.
Janine says
Sounds you have an awesome plan, too under way and so happy to hear all about it here, Mary. Wishing you also a wonderful week ahead, too now!! π

Janine says
AnnMarie, I literally said the same thing today about getting into better shape for summer and Disney, too π
