As much as I’d like to put my family members in a bubble from the months of October to April, I sadly can’t. See these are indeed the peak months for cold and flu season here.
Granted illness during this time of the year runs rampant. I lose count how many letters I get from the school nurse warning me of which illness is the big winner for any given week.
Let’s face it school aged kids are exposed to many different and varying illnesses for months on end.
Whichever illness it is once one of my kids comes down with it, it is only a matter of time that one or more of my family members will be susceptible to catching it.
But there are ways to help keep cold and flu type illnesses from spreading through the whole house.
Therefore, I thought today I’d share these simple and easy ways to help keep the germs at bay in the home.
4 Easy Household Cold and Flu Season Disinfecting & Cleaning Tips
1. Disinfect, Disinfect and Disinfect.
The first thing I do when one or more of my family members is ill is to disinfect hot spots. These hot spots include, counter space, faucets, toilets, table space and more. For all our disinfecting needs, I now use PURELL® Multi Surface Disinfectant. I recently found this new product from PURELL on Amazon. I was even able to use my Prime membership for ordering this!
While this is a new product for PURELL®, PURELL® is a brand that I have used happily for years with their hand sanitizers to keep all in my family healthier. So made sense to me to use PURELL® Multi Surface Disinfectant for further help with household germs. See PURELL® Multi Surface Disinfectant is truly a godsend and unlike any disinfectant spray on the market.

But how is it different than other disinfectants?
For starters, PURELL® Multi Surface Disinfectant is tough on germs, killing 99.99% of germs. However as tough as it is on these types of germs, it is worry-free around kids, pets and food prep areas, as well. But how is this possible?
Because PURELL® Multi Surface Disinfectant has no harsh chemicals or fumes or bleach either. Also, it won’t stain food or clothes. Because of this, you can easily use it in places you do not use traditional cleaners. These would once again include food prep surfaces and so much more! I mean I am able to disinfect and clean, but not worry about any harsh chemicals or more adversely affecting my family. So a win-win in my honest opinion!
2. Also disinfect cleaning supplies.
Not only does it help to disinfect and clean all those common family area surfaces. But after you clean them, those supplies (such as mops, towels and more) become infected with those nasty and stubborn illness germs.
So therefore, it also helps to disinfect those items we use to disinfect/clean those surface areas. See the next time you use them to disinfect and/or clean, at the very least they will not be carrying those old germs to re-spread in your home.
3. Launder clothes, towels and bedding.
Once those surfaces are clean, as well as your cleaning supplies, you might think you have all your bases covered. But let’s not forget that clothes worn, hand/bath towels used and/or even bedding slept in can harbor nasty germs.
Therefore, you will want to wash and dry all these items to help keep those vile germs from indeed spreading. Make sure you have bulk laundry detergent on hand to get through all your sheets and clothing.
4. Humidifiers for the household win.
Humidifiers are a big plus to use to help cleanse and purify the air in homes, especially when illness strikes.
But don’t forget after running them to also disinfect and clean them. Because even though they are a huge help during cold and illnesses with aiding breathing and more, they can breed germs and more.

I feel so out of it, Janine. I never catch a cold or the flu. I’m like the unpopular kid who never gets invited to the party. LOL Great tips for parents. Passing it on to our son and stepdaughter for their kids.
Happy Thursday! One day closer to the Big One!

Honestly, Bill I would give anything to be not in this club either. But sadly this is one party I get invited to more often than not! Still, thanks for sharing and wishing you a great day ahead now 🙂

Great tips, but my big one is to wash hands often. We’ve been home with the sniffles so I’m always telling Madison to wash her hands, because it’s usually hands to face, and I’d rather that I’m better soon. As for PURELL Multi Surface Disinfectant, I am LOVING it.

I agree about the hand washing and loving PURELL Multi Surface Disinfectant, too!
