*This swim lessons essentials post was sponsored by BODYARMOR. However, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Summertime and swimming go hand-in-hand. With young kids though, it is so very important to help them learn how to swim. As most, who read my blog know, I am a mom to two young girls. Both my girls love the pool and the beach for swimming and more.
During the baby years, we did mommy and me swimming lessons for our kids. We also used the proper swim gear, such as swimmies, Puddle Jumpers and even life jackets if necessary if they went in the water to swim.
But as they were getting older both my girls were adamant that they didn’t want to have to use any of these swim devices.
Because of this, we paid for swim lessons in the summer time for them. Swimming lessons were a great way for them to learn water safety, as well as for them to be able to swim unassisted by water/swim devices. Also, swimming lessons are a great way for my kids to stay active during the summer months, too.
Going to swim lessons required me to pack a bag of essentials for them.
So what are the 5 essentials found in our swim lessons bag?
Find out below…
1. A Comfortable Smim Suit.
Many times my girls would wear their suit right to swim lessons with a cute sundress over it. So, in our swim bag would then be a change of clothes or just underwear to wear home. But if they went in their street clothes, then I always made sure yo pack their most comfortable swim suit in our swim lessons tote bag. Either way, comfortable swim suits were always a must.
2. Goggles.
My girls are also picky about putting their face under the water without goggles. So, we also had to make sure to pack goggles for them to use in the pool during their swim lessons.
3. Sunscreen.
If swim lessons are taking place in an outdoor pool, then sunscreen for face and bodies is a major necessity. I mean protecting my kids skin is huge deal to me. Therefore, sunscreen is always in our swim lessons bag.
4. Towels.
Once swim lessons are completed for the session, towels are of course a must have. Drying off with a towels before changing out of their wet bathing suits is just a given.
5. Snacks/Drinks for after.
Last, but certainly not least after they are indeed done with their swim lessons, my girls have always been famished. They not only are looking for a yummy snack to eat, but also a drink to help hydrate them from their high energy swim lessons workout.
In these times, my girls absolutely love BODYARMOR Sports Drinks, which I purchase at my local Stop and Shop. See BODYARMOR Sports drinks are perfect for after swim lessons.
Why?
Because BODYARMOR contains no artificial flavors or sweeteners. But instead has natural flavors and sweeteners. Also BODYARMOR has potassium packed electrolytes, vitamins and coconut water. Plus, BODYARMOR provides superior hydration, because of all of this.

Whenever we go swimming, we always bring water and soda (yikes!). I have never thought about getting my kids sports drinks 🙁 Thanks for the tip, I just hope these are available in local shops.
Janine says
I hope they are as these drinks are truly tasty and perfect for after swimming 🙂

Yes, I put both of my girls through swimming lessons. It is just a safety issue. I know it can be hard to find affordable lessons, but I think it is literally an investment in life. I heard this morning on the news that drowning is the #1 reason for unintentional death in children under 5 (not sure what “unintentional death” is…). Don’t quote me, but I think that was the statistic. Anyway, water safety is critical!
Janine says
Omg, I couldn’t agree more and definitely a scary statistic if true indeed!!
Dara says
I need to set up Simon with swim lessons. I bet with a treat afterwards he’d be more willing to participate!
Janine says
I think you may be right and hope you can try soon, too Dara!! 🙂
Jen says

it was Market day, so I’m hopelessly behind in reading. I’ll simply say that you, my friend, are a marketing machine. 🙂 Have a super Thursday!

Thanks Echo and yay for finishing swim lessons, too!! 🙂

I can’t swim! it’s a big regret of mine, I wish my parents would have paid for swim lessons. I love the tip of getting your kids a sports drink.
Janine says
Aw, sorry you didn’t learn and there is still always time though. And drinks still are a must afterwards 🙂
Tamara says
Actually embarrassed to say that we haven’t started yet but we were just talking how both need lessons.
As for the sports drinks, they intrigue me. Scarlet is starting girls on the run this fall, and Des is doing wiffle ball.
Both are doing soccer too!
Janine says
I know we have so much going on here, too come this fall with dance, soccer and more. So I feel you on this!!
Aunt Gloria says
So good that the girls learned to swim and enjoy the water. Good tips for packing a bag of essentials when the swim is over. Enjoy the summer fun! Love to all……
Janine says
Aw, thanks Aunt Gloria and love right back to you, too now xoxo <3

I have never tried that drink before but sounds like it will be great for the kids. As for your essentials, those are definitely what you need, even if you’re just going to the pool to lounge around and get in.
Janine says
I completely agree and perfect bag for just lounging, too!! 🙂
Bev says
My husband has done the parent/child swim classes, but I think Eve’s ready this fall to try the swim lessons on her own. We’ll see how they go!
Janine says
I think they will go great and got my fingers crossed for you now, Bev!! 🙂
Christine Carter says
This is perfect Janine…. You know I am all about swim lessons and now Cassidy is TEACHING them with our community organization. Great tips!
Janine says
Love that Cassidy is now teaching swim lessons, too. Thanks for sharing that with me, Chris!! 🙂
Rea says
Good for them! Until now, I still don’t know how to swim. You’d think that’s a great survival skill, which I don’t have. Sheesh. I haven’t sent Reiko to any swim class yet, and I should because he loves the pool so much.
Janine says
I know a few adults that never learned, too and never to late to learn though. And hope you can get Reiko some swim lessons, as well soon.
