5 Kid Approved Fun Things to Do on a Rainy Summer Day

1. Go ahead and watch a movie.

One of the best ways to keep my own kids entertained indoors is usually to watch a movie. This can be either something we find on demand, Netflix or even just a DVD we have in our own collection.

2. Catch up on your reading.

I am thankful my girls are avid readers and love books. We truly have a massive library of books. Plus, we also visit our local library and/or bookstore to add often to this. So, rainy days are perfect times to catch up on all our reading.

3. When in doubt, play a game.

We also have quite a few board games, as well as video games here to play. My girls are truly big on game time. We even have our game nights set aside in the cooler weather. So, rainy days in the summer are also quite perfect to get some game time in.

4. Get your art on.

Having a artist for a father means my girls are artsy. The love to draw, color and also craft, too. So, when we happen to be stuck indoors arts and crafts are also a great way to keep busy when it is raining outside.

5. Camp out indoors.

My girls happen to love the outdoors. But again with the rain befalling us from time-to-time even during the nicest of seasons, we have to make do indoors. So camping out indoors is a great way to do so. But how can we camp out inside? That is where Teepee Joy comes in.

What is Teepee Joy?

Teepee Joy is a family owned company located in Skokie, Illinois. Husband and wife (Niv and Lee) design play tents. They got this idea from watching their own daughters playing in their own makeshift hideouts from blankets and more at home. Truly sounds similar to my own kids, who have done similar in the past here.

At Teepee Joy, parents and kids can custom design their own Teepee with unique fabrics and designs. They literally have 1,000s of combinations to choose from. And every single tent is sewn in their own shop.  So these are handmade in the USA.

This tent is so easy to put together. We literally got it together in under 10 minutes with the instructions that came in the box here. Tents come with a easy door opening.

You can also personalize your tent to have up to two windows, a mat and even 4 pillows, too.

But in case you need further assistance, you can find a video below:

As for my girls with their newest tent, they are head over heels for it. On our recent rainy summer day, they literally played in it for hours.

They were throughly entertained and seems this is their new favorite hideout. Plus when the rain passed, they were able to play with their new tent outdoors, too.

The dog even got in on Teepee Joy Fun

So, win-win for tent fun!

Thanks Teepee Joy!

How do you pass the time during the summer rainy days with your kids?

The teepee is adorable – especially love the picture with the dog inside. I am sure your girls will spend many hours playing in it! When it is not raining, they can take it outside and continue the fun.

What a cute tent! I received a similar one as a gift and my daughter LOVES spending time in it reading or drawing. She loves having a place that’s all hers! The cutest is when she cuddles up with our dog in her tent!

We are twins because we have the SAME teepee as you! Same colors and everything. I like to sneak in there and read sometimes when the kids aren’t home.

YES! My son is totally into his tent (store-bought) but also making tents on his own by pulling blankets up onto the dressers and beds and hanging them over the side. So yes, tents, all day…every day!

Fort making is a tried and true rainy day joy. We also used to enjoy getting out all our blocks and making towers and castles and roads that whatever small figures we owned could play on. Just push the sofas out the way and let the kids go when the rainclouds ruin outdoor fun, right? My only tip is to build in clean-up time so Mom isn’t having to put everything away at night when she’s tired from a long day of being stuck inside.

Love that last tip and will definitely keep it in mind the next time we set up the tent here now. Thanks Seana!! 🙂
