Quarantine has been the crux of the breast freedom movement. Moms everywhere are ditching the underwire for comfortable alternatives, and what they’ve found is an empowering alternative. From going entirely braless to finding comfort in strapless bras when needed, there’s clearly been a surge of relaxation in the current climate. Besides comfort, women have found increased circulation, less shoulder pressure, better sleep, and overall savings by jumping on the braless COVID-19 bandwagon.
1. Ultimate Comfort Levels
It’s no secret that underwire has made bras uncomfortable for decades. How many moms have been rushing from the last soccer game all the way home to cook dinner, only to throw the restricting cups on the bedroom floor as soon as you get in the house? During quarantine, women are leaning towards more comfortable bra options, or just ditching the bra entirely! Tommy John recently ran a survey of 1000 women and found that ⅓ of women prefer to work from home braless.
Recent data has shown this norm is no more. With wireless bra sales skyrocketing 40% in the past few months, it’s clear comfort is trending. Imagine a world without underwire jabbing you in the side. A world without bra bands riding up on all sides. We are absolutely in.
2. Boosts Circulation
Tight clothes, in general, aren’t great for women’s health. But did you know housing your ladies in thick fabric with no breathability reduces blood circulation? Moms who have made the leap to the braless lifestyle have come to find an energy boost. (and let’s be honest, we all could use one of those.) Aesthetically, that circulation can also make the girls perkier. That means wearing bras constantly weakens the muscles resulting in premature sagging. No thanks!
3. Alleviates Shoulder Pain
You know those horrible shoulder aches you get at the end of the day from straps overbearing weight? This is just one of the reasons women are choosing to go braless. Granted, bad posture during work from home can create another world of shoulder problems, but you won’t have the uncomfortable imprints from your bras bearing too much weight any longer.
4. Saves Money
The money-saving aspect is just a bonus at this point. The sales of pricy lacey bras are tanking. Who wants to pay $80 for the most uncomfortable piece of clothing that barely anyone sees? Moms have spoken, and they’ve said they prefer spending their money on their family—or even a little bit of self-care instead.
5. Breaks Gender Norms
If you’re feeling a little shy about coverage, layering and similar clothing tips will be your new best friend. Luckily, the free the nipple movement has gained plenty of traction in the past few years, so if you’re not the shy-type don’t be afraid to bare it all. Feminism is all the rise, and that means that bras, shaving, and other gender norms are shifting. We for one, are going to take advantage.
Still not convinced? Studies have shown that wearing bras through the night can disrupt your sleep cycle. Moreso, wearing bras during the day can still have a negative effect on restful sleep. If your ladies are on the smaller side, you might be excited to find out that going braless could even increase your bust size. Your chest will be working overtime to keep the girls up, which will strengthen your muscles and increase the overall size. Moms, we’ll catch you comfortable at home with your newfound confidence.
