Still can’t believe summer is basically over and fall, as well as back to school is almost upon us.
I mean my girls had over two months off for summer vacation. But, it was only a matter of time before we were going back to school though.
However, with the summer and having been at Disney World for part of it, our healthy habits went right out the window.
See as a family, we were staying at the parks way past bedtime and thus waking up in the mornings much later than usual.
So, we are still not fully recovered from that to be honest.
But am hopeful to begin now as we head back to school to get back into healthier habits with my girls for this upcoming school year.
How will we do that?
See below…
5 Ways to Stay Healthy for Back to School
1. Get doctor/dental checkups handled before.
Here in NY kids entering into kindergarten, 2nd, 4th, 7th and 10th grades usually need to have both doctor and dental checkups to hand in appropriate forms when entering these grades. So, I usually try my best for my kids to get these checkup appointments and visits handled during the summer and before they go back to school so that there are no worries when we are knee deep in the early back to school days.
2. Ease back into school with sleep schedules.
Once summer vacation hits, bedtime definitely becomes more lax and will be completely honest when I share that it is what it is. But during the school year, my girls do indeed have a set and scheduled bedtime, so that they do get enough sleep and rest for school days. As the summer winds down, so too do we begin to slowly ease back into bedtime routines. This is so that going to bed somewhat earlier for school days isn’t jarring when we first go back.
3. Don’t forget to stress good hygiene.
Because school seems to be where so many germs and illnesses are prevalent, I always make sure to remind my girls often throughout the year and especially when heading back to school to continually make sure that they wash/clean their hands with soap and water or Purell, too.
4. Continue to offer healthy meal/snack options.
This one is probably the hardest for us, as my younger daughter is still our picky eater. But I do try my best throughout the year to stress healthy eating by offering healthy snacks and meals. So, when heading back to school, I do make sure to pack healthy lunch and snack options for my girls, too.
5. Stock up on multivitamins for a head start on healthy ways.
As far back as I can recall, my girls have been given multivitamins to help keep them healthy as much as possible. But with back to school looming, I always make sure to purchase and stock up on multi-vitamins for them. My girls are a big fan of the gummy multivitamins, so in a recent Target shopping trip, I was happy to find Nature Nature Made®’s KIDS FIRST® Multivitamin Gummies, because my kids can enjoy getting the essential daily nutritional support they might be lacking (especially my picky eater), in a delicious, easy-to-chew gummy.
Nature Made® KIDS FIRST Multivitamin Gummies come in great-tasting all- natural fruit flavors that your kids will love, like Orange, Cherry & Mixed Berry. Nature Made® KIDS FIRST Multivitamins contain 12 essential nutrients for age-specific nutritional support, including vitamins A, C, D and E, B vitamins, and minerals like iodine and zinc, are all natural fruit flavors, have NO synthetic dyes, preservatives or yeast and are gluten free.

Happy to share and love that your kids love these vitamins, too!! 🙂

I don’t think we had these kinds of vitamins when my girls were little. I bet they would have liked them more than the chalky, chewable ones we had. I do take a multi-vitamin every day. Feels like a bit of extra insurance for whatever I may have missed in my diet.
Janine says
I totally remember those chalky ones and yes they are way better more fun for kids, while also helping to keep them healthy. A win-win in my book 🙂
Amanda | Growing Up Madison says
We love Nature Made and all their products. I currently use the vitamelts and Madison uses the gummies. I have to admit that I also eat her gummies too because they’re pretty good. Our kids have been back in school for 2 weeks now and I’m super happy to get them out of the house.
Janine says
One week left here for us still, but I am with you on the vitamins being tasty, too!! 🙂

This is the time of year I realize I don’t miss being a teacher at all. For us, the summer never ends. 🙂
Happy Hump Day, Janine!
Janine says
Bill, I don’t miss teaching either, but as parenting goes still dealing with it on that level, I suppose. Happy Wednesday to you once again!! 🙂
Tamara says
My kids love these a lot. It’s important to be healthy before school starts because we all know how fast those viruses hit! The worst!
Janine says
Omg, couldn’t agree more as you already know!!

It’s hard to believe it’s back-to-school time! Technically nothing really changes for us, except for the weather I suppose, but I still like to think of September as a month of (good) change. We’re getting back on track with healthy snacks!

I know and still in denial myself deep down, but next Wednesday is almost upon us and trying our best to ready ourselves for it as we speak!!

VITAMINS are very important. Finally, I’ve come up with a schedule for Reiko’s vitamins and I never forget anymore. 🙂 Hope everything’s smooth on your end despite the busy back to school month!

My girls never let us forget to give them their vitamins…gummies of course. We have to be careful, though, because the four-year-old can even open the ‘child-proof lid’. I’m kind of sad summer is over, too, and already trying to figure out how I can make next summer even better!
Janine says
Leslie, I am with you on the sadness of summer being over and already scheming, too especially fingers crossed another Disney trip here, too!!

Janine, what perfect timing to read your helpful tips! Thank you for these reminders… they are SO important!

NatureMade products aren’t bad. We have opted for a different brand for Monkey Boy, but he sure loves taking his vitamin every night. In fact, he’ll often remind us that he needs to take his vitamin! 🙂
Janine says
Kendall, thanks for weighing in and admit we happen to like NatureMade and just glad we found something that works for us here.
