The weather is only beginning to warm up here. I swear cooler temperatures and rain plagued us into mid-May here in NY. But finally, we had had some 70s and hear 80s are right around the corner.
So makes sense that I am starting to think summer, outdoors and backyard fun for my family. We have a beautiful size backyard. And cleanliness is important when it comes to the backyard. This is why we like to deep clean it just like how a tennis court cleaning uk does. Our patio has our barbecue, family-size nation table, and chairs, as well as an umbrella to block the sun when need be.

Plus, we have tons of grass and even a section for our fire-pit, lounge table and more for warm summer nights, as well.
So, cannot wait for all that summer and our backyard fun brings. That said, here are some ways; I hope to enjoy our backyard with my family once again this upcoming summer.
5 Easy Ways to Have Fun in Your Backyard with Your Kids
1. Water Fun
A few years back, we caved and bought a massive water slide for our girls. See we don’t have a pool. But it can indeed get hot here, especially in July and August. So water fun to cool down is a must. So, I am hopeful that we will get another summer’s use out of our water slide. Plus, we also have a slip and slide and even a Unicorn sprinkler, too if need be. So, let the water fun time commence!
2. Chalk Drawings
My girls love to draw all year long. But in the summer, they enjoy creating outdoors using chalk. Last year, I caved and bought a large box of assorted chalk in many different colors. So, I am sure these chalks will get a workout on the concrete area that is on the side of our backyard, as well.
3. Playground Time
When my girls were tiny, we had a minimal swing and slide for them that was age appropriate. But a few years back, as they were getting older, we had a large playground complete with big kid swings, slide, and clubhouse installed. So, I am pretty sure judging by how they have enjoyed this setup in year’s past, as well as this spring; the girls will be continuing to have fun there, as well.
4. Bubbles Aren’t Just for Kids
Who doesn’t love playing with soap bubble?? OK, I admit I still do even at over 40 years old. We are pretty stocked up on bubbles as I buy them often enough. So, if I know my kids, they will be playing with them in our backyard this summer, too.
5. Go-To Snacks Are A Must
Last, but certainly not least, when playing outdoors, I know my girls build up an appetite. During the warmer weather, we usually eat in our backyard and outdoors more often than not. Typically, we grill for more substantial meals. But we also snack out there, as well. So, I always make sure to stock up on our favorite snacks.
What are some of our favorite snacks?
Well, on a recent Walmart shopping trip, we picked up RITZ Crisp & Thins. We found them in both barbecue and cheddar flavors, which we were just conveniently recently released. We are planning to snack on them with or without our favorite dips. I am pretty sure for a quick snack to be able to continue to enjoy the rest of the above activities, the girls probably forgo the dip altogether! Because, they are the perfect grab-and-go, no mess snack to keep the backyard fun non-stop.
But why RITZ Crisp & Thins?
First of all, these new flavors, as well as all varieties, are so easy to find at our local Walmart. Plus, the barbecue flavors seems to be a summer-time favorite as it goes perfectly with the barbecue and outdoor theme. Moreover, the cheddar flavor is an all-time favorite, because we all happen to love cheese and specifically cheddar cheese. Both flavors are delicious!
So, again for all the backyard, summertime fun, RITZ Crisp & Thins are perfect. Whether it is just our immediate family or family or friends join in on the backyard fun, you can bet we will have Ritz Crisp & Thins in our pantry. Plus, if we do end up taking any road trips, I see these being a favorite to bring along, as well.

All of these ideas were great when my kids were younger! Now they don’t really play in the backyard anymore, sadly enough.
Janine says
Aw, Dara, I hope my kids will enjoy our backyard for at least a few more years now 😉

Yay for summer and Ritz crackers! We have already been bubbling it up quite a bit. The weather has been a mild 80 all week. What?! No 100’s yet? I will take it 🙂
Have a great one! I am off on a grand adventure today!
Janine says
Awesome weather and we actually had 80s for Memorial Day weekend. So no complaints here either!! Have so much fun on your adventure now, too!! 🙂

Janine,
I totally agree with your list of backyard family fun activities. When my kids were growing up, they loved every one of them. Their favorite thing was a homemade slip and slide. I added lots of soap so it would be extra slippery.
P.S. You can never go wrong with snacks especially if it is Ritz!
Have a fabulous summer!
Diane

Aw, thanks so much, Diane and wishing you a wonderful summer ahead now, too!! 🙂

Janine says
Thanks, Bill and you have a wonderful Wednesday, as well as have fun with your puppy, too!! 🙂

So feeling you on the weather not being warm enough as it should be to enjoy all these things now. We had Tucker’s watergun fight today and it rained for part of it and my house is now a mess because they were inside part of the time. That said, I love your summer backyard fun ideas so much – the water play especially, as you know. Water and puppies and bubbles always are a win! <3

What is with the rain. Seriously, last weekend with Memorial Day, we had almost 90 degrees and had a barbecue with family here. Around 6 pm it started getting dark and ended up raining and the temperature dropped about 25 degrees in an hour. Granted the temperature rose again the next day. But then three more days of off and on rain after that. So over it and just want more sunshine and warmth for a prolonged period of time for all the backyard fun we can get now. Hope Tucker’s Party was amazing though and sorry for the rain during part of it <3

also you should totally link this up with this week’s FTSF for “summer” 🙂
Janine says
Omg, I totally wasn’t even thinking and now I just did add to the link this week. Thank you for the suggestion <3

Nice post! We too spend a lot of time outside during the summer at parks and playgrounds. Ritz crackers are what I always pack with a small plastic knife, and some peanut butter for smearing. Popping peanut butter Ritz ‘sandwiches’ are delicious and keep us all full for longer than a handful of chips! I’ll have to try those new Ritz since we are already such fans of the classic Ritz cracker.
Janine says
Thanks so much, Rebecca and truly recommend the RITZ Crisp & Thins if you do like the original RITZ because these are just as good and maybe even just a little better 🙂
Seana Turner says
Water and chalk were always favorites around my house. There is something innately satisfying to me as a mother about outdoor fun that cleans itself up:)
Janine says
Me too, Seana and any which way that a mess cleans itself is awesome in my book, as well!! 🙂
Cynthia says
What fun! I know, working at a school, parents are always looking for summer ideas to keep kiddos occupied. I loved (and still do) bubbles and chalk. When I was little, the slip n slide was a precious commodity, too. I hope that you all have a *wonderful* summer and I’m glad it’s finally warm where you are. I love shorts weather. Hehe.
Janine says
Omg, me too and I seriously I am all about the shorts and outdoor weather. I just can’t get enough of it and happy it is that time for all of us now, too! Happy Monday once again xoxo <3
Christine Carter says
Ah, I remember those backyard fun activities with my kids when they were younger! Once in a while, they will still have friends over and play in the sprinkler or jump on the trampoline and even play ghosts in the graveyard! SO FUN!
Janine says
Truly so much fun and hope that we have at least a few more years of that here now, too 🙂
