First, I know I can’t forget anything. Plus I spend a lot of the time packing for my whole family, because that task lies solely on my shoulders.
This is why I can very easily remember everything for everyone else and miss things off for myself. So I thought I would share with you some of the things every mom needs to pack for her summer vacation.
The 8 Must Have Items All Moms Should Pack in Her Suitcase for Vacation
1. Sun tan lotion
More often than not we are switched on when it comes to applying sun tan lotion to our children but forget about ourselves. I have been more than guilty of this. However, going on vacation means that the sun will most likely be shining. So don’t forget to pack some sun tan lotion for you. Perhaps you want something a little different that isn’t appropriate for children.
2. A comfortable swimsuit
Buying a swimsuit can be a difficult purchase for moms to make. We are mostly likely wanting to hide a mom tummy or any stretch-marks that we have. But still when in Rome! So therefore, we moms needs a comfortable bathing suit to be able to pack in her vacation suitcase. All I can say is try not to worry too much. Just have a go-to suit that is comfortable and you can wear to enjoy the water moments with your family.
3. Summer sandals
When you are on summer vacation, you may end up doing a fair bit of walking. It might be just for your meals. Or you could be a family who likes to explore like we love Disney World. When in Disney, we most definitely do quite a bit of walking in the parks. So make sure you invest in a comfortable pair of sandals that will see you through the whole vacation.
4. Cover ups for around the pool or at the beach
As a mom, you may find yourself doing a lot of getting up and walking around the pool than just laying on a sun lounger and enjoying the sun. So make sure you pack yourself a few cover ups. This could be anything from a lightweight dress to a kaftan.
5. Summer dresses or shorts
It goes without saying but don’t forget to pack yourself a few summer dresses and/or shorts to get you through. These will come in handy on day trips out or even for casual dinners.
6. A good book for those moments when you get a little you time to read
You may get some rare opportunities during the vacation to sit and relax. It might be if your children take naps or perhaps their dad has taken them in the pool to occupy them. So make sure you are prepared for such incidents and pack a good book or magazine or even your Kindle to enjoy.
7. Sunglasses
Definitely don’t forget those all important sunglasses. They will make keeping an eye on the children much easier in the sunshine than it will without them. Plus they are a great fashionable accessory for summer.

8. Tissues
This one you may be more for the kids, but I have to admit that I am just as guilty needing a Kleenex tissue even on vacation.
But for what?
Many varied reasons I make sure to have tissues on vacation, including allergies acting up, small mishaps and more. Kleenex Go Anywhere packs are my go to for vacations and why I pack them in my suitcase just for this occasion.
And right now visit you local Walmart and stock up on the Kleenex Go Anywhere Packs for all of your summer fun.

Rosey says
Every time I’ve left out the tissues thinking I wouldn’t need them, I needed them! Now I just pack them no matter what. 🙂 You’ve got a good list! Just swinging by to say hello. 🙂
Janine says
Aw, so nice to see you here today, Rosey. And I am with you that I have just learned better safe than sorry with packing the tissues, too 🙂
Victoria @DazzleWhileFrazzled says
Great list! I find I almost always need a Kleenex, esp. if a situation where there seem to be none. Cute little pack which I haven’t seen before. Visiting from Happy Now party.
Janine says
Aw, thanks for visiting and I love the packaging on these tissues, too 🙂
Seana Turner says
I like the little strap Kleenex is putting on the pouch. That would be great for a car trip, and the tissues are less likely to become a projectile in the event of an accident. I always tried to bring a nightlight when I traveled with my kids… strange rooms can feel scary.
Janine says
Thanks Sean and the strap for this one really is such a clever and unique idea to me, too for so many reasons!! 🙂
Allie G smith says
Janine, perfect list. But I’m on the road with the kiddos right now, you forgot wine and/or Xanax!
Janine says
Allie, I like the way you think! Seriously though hope your road trip is going good so far this year!! 🙂
Meredith Spidel says
I would be lost without my to-go Kleenex packs! Take them everywhere! And super list of other essentials, Janine–happy travelling this summer!
Janine says
Aw, I am so with you on this Meredith and Happy Summer Travels now to you, too 🙂
Dara says
Great list of things to remember for summer vacation! I know I always need to have tissues with me – sometimes public bathrooms don’t have toilet paper and they come in handy for that too!
Janine says
Thanks Dara and I agree about the public restrooms situation, too as you just never know!!

Kristin, two years ago in Disney mine included a broken iPhone after dropping in water! So, I get it totally 😉
Jen says
I have Kleenex in my bag at ALL times, but for sure those puppies are in my bag on a vacation!
Happy summering my friend 🙂
Janine says
Aw, thanks and Happy Summering to you, too now Jen 😉
Pam Ecrement says
Great ideas! I am passing this along to our daughter who leaves on vacation in a few days with four of our six grandchildren!
Janine says
Thanks Pam and so glad your daughter could use this hopefully on her upcoming family vacation, too!! 🙂
Mary says
I have a hard time packing for myself for vacation I can’t imagine the stress and organization it takes to pack for the family. Kleenex is a must in my suitcase, there always a need for it no matter what I’m doing.
Janine says
Mary, I truly have become versed in packing for myself and my girls. I will say my husband packs for himself thankfully. But still, Kleenex is always a must have for most times, especially vacation! 🙂
Tamara says
Those packs are perfect! Thank you for that! My kids will appreciate them and so will I. We’re the worst with crumpled up ones in our pockets.
We both have vacation on the brain!
Janine says
Omg they are absolutely perfect and yes I am so dreaming of vacation, especially with this dreary, chilly, rainy day!!
Aunt Gloria says
Good tips. I always carry Kleenex tissues with me and have them everywhere….car, purse, pockets, etc. Thanks. xxoo
Janine says
Thanks Aunt Gloria and same here, too xoxo 😉
Becca says
I always try to remember a nail file, because it seems like I always need one on vacation!
Janine says
Yes, I agree about a nail file, too!!
Mother of 3 says
Great list! I think there was two or three years in a row when my kids were young that I forgot to pack any sort of pajamas for myself… had everything under the sun for the kids including medicine and thermometer but no pjs’ for me! Luckily I often travel in sweats or yoga pants so I could use those in a pinch and it did give me a great excuse to go shopping once all by myself! I got back to the hotel just as my husband finished up bath time with three new pj’s, two new bathing suits and a bathing suit cover up.
Janine says
Mother of 3, I love the way you roll and if I forgot anything that is the way I want to go about replacing all!! 🙂
Leslie says
Yes to all of these! I can’t imagine summer without dresses, sandals, and sunglasses.
Janine says
Thanks Leslie and I am with you as I can’t imagine a summer without any of these either 😉
Nellie says
The swimsuit tip is a great one! Especially on that you feel comfy in because nothing is worse than not liking your suit when you are just trying to create memories with your kids…
Janine says
Thanks Nellie and I agree about the swimsuit issue when you have kids completely!!
