*I was compensated by Roses Only for this Mother Daughter Activities article. But my thoughts and opinions here are all my own.
It was one simple picture. I needed them to pose after we worked on a fun blog article idea together. The actual blog activity went so much easier than this one simple image. Stay tuned for that one coming to my blog in the next week or so.
But back to the issue at hand. See when my girls were younger, they were actually easier to get pictures of them together.
But at ages 7 and 8, it was literal torture trying to get my girl to sit still for me to take one picture of them.
I am not going to lie I was frustrated in the moment. But then, it dawned on me to just go with their silliness. I couldn’t help, but smile and giggle right along with them. Which, of course, only made them crack up further.

One of the sillier outtake moments with my two goof balls!
By the end, we were three laughing messes. But we had fun getting there.
And then, later on I worked on photo editing. When I came to some of the outtakes where my two were at their most silly, I couldn’t help chuckle out loud.
It was in that moment that I realized every day for me is Mother’s Day. See it’s not just about the flowers and the picture perfect moments.
But even in the craziest moments, I am forever grateful to be the mom to these two perfectly, silly girls.
Because they are all mine. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Don’t get me wrong, flowers and roses are awesome, too. Nor, will I ever pass them up.
But that said, this made me think a bit about being a mother. It also made me brainstorm funs ways to spend quality mother daughter time with my girls not just on Mother’s Day, but any day.

8 Simply Perfect Mother Daughter Activities To Do Not Just On Mother’s Day
1. Watch a movie together.
You can go to the movies or watch an old movie in the comfort of your own home. Either way, it is the act of sharing the time, as well as the actual story line of the movie together. This shared experience is key. I happen to be a big fan of watching movies that my girls enjoy now, plus introducing them to some of my own favorites. Like in the past we shared the live version of Grease and then we also watched the original, which just so happens to be still one of my favorites. So, getting to not only watch something that my girls enjoy to get a better understanding of their likes. But also sharing my own likes with them is a fun way to spend time together.
2. Get a Mani/Pedi.
As far back as I can recall, I loved getting my nails done. When I was younger, I begged my mom to do my nails for me. Nowadays, I have two girls here for the price of one. And they love getting their nails and toenails done. So, I love sharing this fun time together with them. Because not only do I still enjoy this. But now my girls do, as well. So, perfect shared time spent.
3. Read books together.
This one is a no brainer as I am raising two girls, who love to read. See not only does their mom love to read. But so do my girls. They are now old enough to read quietly to themselves. Yet, I still love when they read to me. And they also still ask me sometimes to read to them. Plus there are times, where we can be relaxing on my bed or on the couch together while we are all reading different books quietly. Any which way, we are still spending quality time together.
4. Snuggle time for one and for all.
Let’s face it, there are just times when we are just happy doing nothing. But still doing nothing together snuggled up under the blankets cuddling and snuggling. I am so thankful to have two very lovable and huggable girls for times just like this.
5. Give back and volunteer.
Because I do want my girls to be kind and giving, as well as spend time together. A wonderful way to accomplish both is volunteer together. This can be at an animal shelter, visit a nursing home or more. The key is to give back, spend time together while doing so.
6. Girls just want to shop.
Another thing, I have always enjoyed is shopping. And guess who? So do my girls now. So, I happily will spend time together enjoying a bit of retail therapy with my two favorite girls!
7. DIY or cook together.
As one can clearly see from my blog, I quite enjoy being crafty often enough. Plus, I also love to try new recipes out, especially family friendly ones. So love having my two girls help with the crafting, as well with my cooking, too.
8. Just have fun being with each other!
Number eight is a no brainer. After how I began this article, I can honestly say that just being with my girls quite often is all I need. We don’t have to be doing anything special. But just hanging out together as much as possible is quite simply perfect.
There you have it with eight very easy mother daughter activities that all moms and daughters can do together any day of the week!
**Also linking up with Kristi and Kenya for Finish the Sentence Friday, where the sentence for the week was to share a photo and story behind it.

No daughters here but one thing my mother and I used to do that was just for us was going to the movies. When I was a little older it was a movie of a book that we had both read which made it even more fun. So the read books together was definitley our thing too.

Your two daughters have no idea, right now, how lucky they are to have you as a mother, but one day they will, and they will smile, and they will learn about love through you. What a legacy that is!
Happy Friday Janine!

now, roses… there’s something that surely everyone can agree on (they being very excellent looking flowers).
Tough to grow. Have tried traditional roses without success, but now have one of those rose-like bushes that spread sideways each year (tons of small, red, rose-shaped flowers). Don’t know the name, probably guess that I’m not excessively into the horticultural aspect of the thing.
Fun post.
Janine says
Thanks Clark and you roses’ bush sounds beautiful 😉
J. Ivy Boyter says

Aw, ne too!!! 🙂

Now that I’m older and I still don’t have any kids My Mother and I have a great time on Mother’s day. I think we would both love little ones running around the house but we enjoy boozy brunches and fun adventures in San Francisco just as much, if not more. I love the idea of reading a book with my Mom, I might just do that.
Janine says
Aw, love the boozy brunches idea and maybe someday when my girls are indeed old enough. And also hope you and your mom can read and share a both together soon, too 🙂
Kristi Campbell says
They’re so adorable, Janine. I get frustrated with no good photos too but then the silly ones end up being my favorites. Mommying is all about “going with it,” isn’t it? Great activities to do not just on Mother’s Day (I’ve gotten into all the movies my son is interested in and actually really enjoy them!).
Janine says
I know same here with the movies, too with my girls that they like. And agree also about those silly photos, too 🙂
Pat B says
Mother/daughter times and mother/son times are to be cherished, no matter what the ages.
Talking, laughing, cooking, reading, playing games, serving, and the list goes on. I’m looking forward to spending some mother/daughter time with one of our daughters this coming week. We will be spending time at the family history conference during the days and probably talking, laughing, eating, etc. the rest of the time. I’m a great grandmother and she is a grandmother and it is still fun being her Mom.
Janine says
Aw, loved hearing this and gave me tons of hope for the future now, too 🙂
Jen says
Those roses are lovely! The box even is super cute! Being a mother has so many fun opportunities for just chilling together. I just love it!
Janine says
Aw, me too and thanks for sharing with me, as well Jen 🙂
Julie Clarke says

Janine says
Aw, thanks so much, Julie 🙂

It doesn’t get much better than snuggling and The Sound of Music, too 🙂
AnnMarie John says
You’re way ahead of the game for Mother’s Day. I haven’t even thought of it yet as it’s months away. As for the big day, I usually do mani/pedi’s with my girls and then go out to dinner. This year I’m hoping to mix it up a bit and do some fun new outdoorsy things.
Janine says
Aw, love your plan AnnMarie for this upcoming Mother’s Day. And I am sure whatever you guys do it will be amazing just like you 🙂
Christine Carter says
Oh, Janine, these are WONDERFUL ideas! And your girls truly are adorable- ESPECIALLY in their silly ways and you captured them perfectly. I can imagine how much fun that turned out to be!
I am going to remember these ideas because they span through ANY age of girls. My teen girl would love to do all of these too.
Janine says
Aw, thanks Chris and I am so thankful that it turned out fun. And it also reminded me this valuable lesson, too 🙂
Seana Turner says
I always enjoyed cooking with my girls. Not only was it fun, but we hand an “end result” to enjoy:) Recently, I’ve enjoyed just watching a movie or show and coloring in an adult coloring book. I realized that I needed to get some new fine-tip markers, but it was very relaxing!
Janine says
That does sound relaxing and may try that soon with my girls, too 🙂
Tamara says
So special! I live for that mother daughter stuff. Even though Scarlet is only eight, I find I treat her like a girlfriend. I ask her to take photos of me for blog posts (which she does well) and I also have her help me shop and pick out outfits. ha!
Janine says
Aw, I love that Scarlet does all of this and more with you. Definitely made me smile reading even knowing this and more about you two 🙂
Dana says
Mani and pedi, please! My daughter and I like to walk the dog together – it’s wonderful to get some exercise and catch up with each other.
Janine says
Walking the dog is also a great way to spend some togetherness time, too 🙂
