“Once you got the ring on your finger, you no longer could care less about football,” Kevin has said to me on more than once occasion teasing me about my lack of interest in the sport itself.
I don’t make stories up or lie. I did try to understand the game that I never completely did understand in my youth, when we were first dating. But truth be told I just didn’t get it and as much as I loved him, I still wasn’t getting it even after we sat and watched a few games that first year of dating. But I did give it the old college try, give me credit for something I suppose.
Are You Ready For SuperBowl 2013??That said, I still do watch the Superbowl. Not so much for the actual game, but for the food that we make and serve. Come on who doesn’t like chips, dip and even buffalo wings? Not the best food as far as calories I know, but then again nothing that tastes good for the most part is really good for you. And I don’t eat like this very often to be quite honest.
Slim by the Summer Week 3However, I am on week three now of Slim by the Summer challenge and have been truly trying to be good since my hell week of PMS. But of course, Super Bowl Sunday was thrown into the mix. I was good the whole past week (even skipping cake at my niece’s birthday party on Saturday night), so I was allowing myself a bit of bad eating habits for this one night.
Hell, it only comes around once a year and will be honest this is more of a celebration for me then anything (by the way I couldn’t care less who wins!), because after this weekend I get my football loving husband back until it starts all over again later in the year. Yes, during football seasonI truly become a football widow on Saturdays (college football) and Sundays (NFL Football) with Kevin sitting on the couch watching his 60” LED TV with Football plastered all over it.
Fruits Loops Have Become My Weakness!!So this week’s topic for Slim by the Summer is as follows: “One thing I NEED to change in my diet!” Well as soon as I saw this topic I knew I had to address my Superbowl binge eating. But for all intents in purposes, I have been mostly good other than that on the eating aspect this week, but still I do love my snacks, such as eating Fruit Loops that were purchased for my girls (yes I am still a kid where this delicious cereal is concerned and just can’t help myself). However for the most part, I have been sticking to three basic meals, tons of water (not so difficult for me, because I love drinking water), and limiting my snacking as much as I can. I have also added back in a bit of exercise to round things off.
But the big game again being this past Sunday, did put a wrench in my eating habits. Can anyone say, “Are you ready for some football?” Sorry for making excuses, but I truly had to eat some of the food Kevin prepared. But again that only happens so infrequently that I don’t feel terrible, but still felt the need to mention it in my weekly post for this. But today is a new day indeed and now that Football is over and I have my husband back (on borrowed time, but still), I am back on game!!
However, today is a new day indeed and now that Football is over and I indeed have my husband back (on borrowed time, but still), I am back on game!!

We were at my MIL's house, and totally forgot the Superbowl was on. We were eating taco salad for dinner then had to drive an hour home! LOL…I say that because we didn't even watch TV all day yesterday, let alone the Superbowl. Glad you had fun – and a little indulgence in good food will help keep you motivated for later. 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Honestly, I wish I could forget, but Kevin would never let me, lol!! And I weighed myself yesterday morning before my feast last night and have no desire to step on the scale this morning. I will weigh myself again mid-week once I am back to my normal diet, lol!!! 🙂
Bill says
I love Fruit Loops and I'm proud to announce that to the world. 🙂 Is it any wonder why I like you. LOL
Janine Huldie says
Lol, see I knew we had a ton in common already, but love hearing that we have even more in common, Bill. Thanks seriously for putting a smile on my face!! 🙂
Rachel Harper says
Super Bowl is the one time of year that everyone eats horribly and rightly so. Football fans are celebrating the Super Bowl and non-football fans deserve the right to celebrate the ending of football. It's a night of win/win
Janine Huldie says
Awesome way of looking at this Rachel and totally agree with you!! 🙂
Jane Marsh says
Mmm, Janine, I would suggest that planned binge/indulge/"cheat" days are a critical part of any clean or purposeful diet. I eat a ridiculously clean diet for a variety of health reasons most of the time–and one of the ways I maintain it, and do not engage in "spontaneous" encounters with foods that ail me–is by planning for my cheat days. Be it an event like the Super Bowl, a birthday party, or dinner out with friends–or that day three days before the period comes…
Janine Huldie says
Oh I think your way of thinking Jane and so true about planning ahead for these days, because every once in a while we are bound to have a day or two like this with our diets. It is inevitable 🙂 🙂
erintheirishmama says
I got your votes in today!!!! PS – my WW post tomorrow is going to be horrendous!!! This is the worst time of year for me to diet but I am determined to lose that last 10 (well now 13-14lbs). It's not fun!!!!
Janine Huldie says
Oh thank you seriously for the votes. I weighed myself before last night purposely so that I wouldn't see the actual damage. As I type this I am on the exercise bike trying to undo some of the damage, lol!! So I can totally relate!!
Melanie Chisnall says
Wow…I can't remember when last I had fruit loops, I am craving them now! Can see why you love them. We all deserve a bit of cheating now and then…otherwise what's the point? We only live once 😉 So glad you're still going with the slim for summer program. Well done!
Janine Huldie says
Oh sorry to put it out there for all to crave, but they are really so yummy!! That said thanks seriously for your support and so trying to look good for the warmer weather (even though it is still only February). Guess it is always better to start earlier rather than later!! 🙂
Lanaya @ Raising Rea says
OMG … Fruit Loops are the best. I don't even need them with milk. I haven't bought them because Reagan would be hooked and then I'll have one more thing in the house that I shouldn't eat. Sigh…
There are definitely the days that you just got to eat! And I mean it! Superbowl Sunday is a perfect excuse.
Sad that my team lost by THREE points but they made a game out of it and I am OK with that.

That is how I eat my Fruit Loops (no milk necessary!). So funny, because you and I really have so much in common!! Sorry about the 49ers and I hope they kick butt next season 🙂 xoxo!!!
Mike Abitabile says
The food was delicious, I couldn't stop eating the dip! And I'm glad I got to watch the game with you, the girls and the worlds best brother in law.
Janine Huldie says
Oh you know we love having you hang out with us and you are seriously welcome to come down whenever you want. Thanks also for the wings (you know you didn't have to do that) and we too love you to pieces. You are the best brother and uncle, too 🙂
Kat Biggie says
I avoided (ok we weren't invited to) all SuperBowl parties this year. So sad. Not one person invited us to a party. But, I digress. We stayed home and had roasted chicken and veggies. Did have one beer and some chex mix, but overall, didn't have an enormous food fest like I might have at a party!
Janine Huldie says
Alexa, we had no invites either, but ith the kids we like to stay home anyways and we make our food, too. We have two types buffalo chicken (with wings and grilled breasts), Mexican Taco Dip with tostitos chips, veggies with blue cheese dip and of course cheese and crackers. But I forgot the Chex Mix and oh how I love that stuff, lol 🙂
Terrye says
I am so glad my hubby isn't a football fanatic. Hockey on the other hand…we both LOVE hockey! 🙂 He was invited to a bunch of bowl parties, but he had to work, so that gave him an excellent excuse not to go and I didn't have to listen to hours of boring commentary about a bunch of guys in tights chasing after a ball that doesn't even bounce right. 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Well, today I am happy he is a football fan, because I now have months off with no real sports in my house, but ask me this question again in August and I am sure I will give you a different answer, lol!! 🙂
Ruchira says
I totally get you with the above blog…lol
We were glued to the TV with lots of eats. Today, I had to cycle off some calories to not feel guilty of how I indulged myself.
Ruchira says
voted for ya!
Janine Huldie says
Oh totally sounds similar to our house Ruchira and thank you so much as always for the votes!! 🙂
Dani Ryan says
I am so happy my husband isn't a big football or hockey fan, although I'm kind of screwed in that he loves basketball. But I enjoy the final game of any sport, so I'm always in for a little Super Bowl action. We've never been one for preparing lots of food for it though. I did have a huge glass of wine to make it worth my while, and I'm sure I could've done without the calories, but it's easy to say, "IT'S SUPER BOWL SUNDAY!" 😉
Janine Huldie says
Lol, Dani. So true about it being easy to see that it is indeed Super Bowl Sunday. I actually had two glasses of wine Saturday night to deal with my in-laws!! Got to love how alcohol makes it all better and manageable in the moment!! 🙂
Emily Cappo says
I live with a football guy too — AND basketball AND golf — basically we have sports on the TV year-round. I actually use the superbowl as an excuse to eat and I did! Then I went right to the gym this morning to try and work off all those wings and ribs! and chips! Btw, love your new signature too! (and will go vote right now.:))
Janine Huldie says
Emily, it sounds like we had a similar night last night and Kevin does love soccer, but for some reason I can sit easier watching that then football. So I do less complaining where that is concerned. Thanks for the compliment on my signature (I thought I would try one after I saw your post) and you know I voted for you today, too!! 🙂
Kelly says
Ugh, at one point I said, "if you can't beat 'em join 'em" and tried to like football. Now, I can enjoy it over a good adult beverage but only if it's an important and intense game. PS – don't post pics of food – now I have a fruitloops craving! lol!!
Janine Huldie says
Lol, sorry Kelly!! I have some in my cabinet if you want!! No seriously, I am with you on having a drink or a bit of food to get through, because I still can;t get the game even after all the times I tried!! 🙂
Dree Getz says
I am not a fan of the NFL but love college football. I like this slim by summer. I need to shed some pounds myself.
Janine Huldie says
Thanks so much Dree and you and my husband would get on well with college football 🙂 🙂
Linda Roy says
We always do the game food thing for Super Bowl too. This year, the hubby and I were so tired and he wasn't feeling well, so we decided not to do the whole thing. The kids were really upset! We had no idea they cared so much about the Super Bowl! We ended up getting takeout from Bobby's Burger Palace. It was good, but too expensive and not as much fun. Next year, it's back to wings and guac!
Thanks for linking up at my "Mondays" blog hop!
Janine Huldie says
My pleasure first off and seriously thanks for including me today!! As for the food, my kids this year also got into the whole food thing. They loved chips, dips and cheese and crackers, too. So looks like we will be doing this every year even just for them 🙂 🙂
Cinella says
OMG! I have not had fruit loops in AGES!!!!
You can do this!
Janine Huldie says
Oh thanks seriously and so can you, too. We so got this working together!! 🙂
Janine Huldie says
We DVR'd it to to go back and look at the commercials if we have time soon. Glad to know I wasn't the only one who enjoyed the food in a bit of moderation and thanks Dianna!! 🙂
Kera says
Ugh, I totally was a sucker for all the delicious and bad-for-you food last night. I guess all the calories I consumed eating made up for all the alcohol I wasn't drinking! Froot Loops…I love them too. Luckily Sofia can't choose what she eats yet so therefore she gets Cheerios and Rice Chex haha. You can totally get back into the swing of eating healthy–I'm cheering you on!
Janine Huldie says
Oh thanks so much Kera and I didn't have alcohol either, but not for same reasons, just didn't need to after having a few glasses of wine Saturday night 🙂 🙂
clarkfarley says
Speaking of weird sports interests… I tend to enjoy watch Professional golf, if for no other reason than it is the perfect nap sport! Get comfortable on the couch and if you nod off, no problem! wake up, look at the Leader Board (which they're always showing) and decide if there is time to continue the napation, or things are heating up (as much as they ever do in a sport where they require the fans to be quiet!) lol
Janine Huldie says
Oh man Clark, that is a great reason to watch golf and will so have to remember that, lol!! 🙂 Hope you are doing well and have been thinking of you again my friend!!
Janine Huldie says
I am ashamed to say I missed the kids sining, because once I ate, I had Lily who wanted to watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse in our bedroom with me. So we sat in there snuggling a bit and watched it On Demand. But that said in my defense I had watched enough football by default all season long and by that point Mickey even looked good, lol! I am with you and just don't get it 🙂
Stacy Harris says
You don't even want to know how much I ate yesterday… and for dessert… two cupcakes. And let's just say… I could have just eaten a bag of frosting it tasted so good. And by the way – I don't know what is up with my snacking lately but I have had a major sweet tooth. It's just been crazy. But I have slowly gotten back into the swing of exercising and hopefully will be feeling good by summer too! 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Stacy, I had too many days like that seriously from Hurricane Sandy through the beginning of the new year!! So I can truly relate and my sweet tooth, too had been truly out of control. If you are exercising and getting back in shape for the summer, you totally consider joining this group, because everyone is really so sweet and supportive, too 🙂
Camilleta says
I always eat my daughter's Lucky Charms and Crunchberries, lol.
Janine Huldie says
Oh Lucky Charms (the marshmellows) are the best, Camille!! Now you got me craving those too lol!!
April says
I haven't had cereal in forever. I like them, but they just aren't as tasty as they used to be. There was a post that I saw that showed the cereals ten years ago as compared today… smaller, less nutritious and less of the fun stuff. Of course, if I was addicted like I used to be Lucky Charms was my go-to!
April @ 100lbcountdown.com
Good luck!
Janine Huldie says
Oh thanks April and evne though they aren't probably as good I still can get addicted quite easily as you can see, lol!! 🙂
