*I was asked by The Baby Sleep Site to share our past newborn sleep struggles. I was also asked to relate to my readers how their awesome site that helps with all baby sleep issues. All opinions are therefore my own.
“I once had a nocturnal baby!”
I recently jokingly uttered this phrase after being told that a friend’s cat is nocturnal.
I can laugh about this now mostly. But back when my newly first born baby was barely sleeping at night, this was anything but a joke to us.
But the reality was that my first born didn’t like sleep. She actually pretty much boycotted it for the first year of her life leaving me despondent over that loss of sleep.
However for the first two days of her life in the hospital, I was also none the wiser as my baby girl was whisked away to the nursery during the night time hours, while I got to slumber.
So, at this point I was still ignorantly blissful as to what was to come as far as sleep or the lack thereof that was about to befall me.
That first summer night of July, we were finally home and settling in with our newborn baby girl was an eye opening experience to say the least.
From early afternoon right up until late evening, our baby was quiet and peaceful. But at 11 pm that same baby girl began to wail bloody murder, screaming and turning a beet red color. As first glance, both my husband and I were of the mindset that babies cry and we would be able to get her to quiet down.
However, this continued for hours on end. We fed, burped, changed and rocked her. You name it, we did it to calm and attempt to soothe her. But no matter what we did, we couldn’t seem to quiet or get her to sleep.
She continued like this until almost 5 am before settling down that first night.
I wish I could say that this was a one-time occurrence, but sadly this was our lives at night for more than a year of her life. Through the good times, like when we had newborn photography planned the next day, she didn’t sleep much the night previous.
What’s more, we truly so new and wet behind the ears with having a baby not sleep that even though we tried so many different things to help, not much seemed to help.
We just rode it out. Don’t ask me how though as I pretty much have blocked out as much of that time as I could. Thankfully almost 8 years later, we are well past that stage.
But if I had known what I know now then, I would have gladly accepted any help I could have gotten.
Recently, I was introduced to The Baby Sleep Site. This site seriously would have been a godsend to me back in those early parenting days where sleep was at an all-time low for our family.

How about helping your wife to sleep better? Got anything for that? LOL That’s our problem around here. Bev has too much to do and stress keeps her from sleeping. Me…like a log!
Have a great Wednesday, my friend.
Janine says
Bill, if I had the remedy to that I would most definitely share with you for Bev. Happy Wednesday to you, too now!

I’ve heard numerous stories about getting babies to sleep. That’s actually the first thing I always ask my new parents if they are sleeping through the night. It’s so intriguing to me, I can only imagine you wanting to rest the baby having some different plans. Baby Sleep Site look like a life saver. I’m going to pass this post along to all the new mommies and daddies I know 🙂
Janine says
Thank you for passing onto the new moms and dads, you know as I truly feel it is in invaluable resource for them to have in their corner.
Tamara says
My babies were actually good sleepers, but they were still babies. So that meant they were good sleepers if they weren’t waking up several times to eat!
I will definitely keep this site in mind. It’s a conversation we all need to have!
Janine says
I agree definitely a conversation we all need to have. so glad to share here with you, too.

Just to be able to even just try it out for 1 month for $24 bucks is amazing. I was a zombie with my last baby. That kid never slept. Unless it was right on top of me. I think sites like this are amazing! I wish I had had one! Good share my friend 🙂
Janine says
Again happy to share and similar to you I also never slept with my first and felt like a zombie. So totally get it and hope this helps others who may be dealing with the lack of sleep, as well.
AnnMarie John says
This definitely would have been a godsend to me when I first had my oldest. I had no idea what I was doing and she was one of those who very rarely slept. Even now, she’s still like that. I’ll have to share this with other new moms who are struggling.
Aunt Gloria says
What a great idea and service to parents. Your grandmother could have used it with your mother! Thank goodness your girls are good sleepers now. xxoo
Janine says
You are so right Aunt Gloria about my grandmother with my mother, too. But also agree and thank god we are all good sleepers now xoxo
