BookBugs – Where Reading Meets Giving

Filed Under: BLOG, Book Reviews, Books, holiday gift ideas, Kids Posts, parenting, parenting two kids, Sponsored Posts Tagged With: Book Subscription, BookBugs, Camilla the Cupcake Fairy, Holiday Gift, Sponsored Post

*I was given a month subscription for free with BookBugs, however all book loving opinions here are my own.

“Can we go to the book store?”

My girls ask me this so often that I am thinking I am doing something right by raising lifelong readers.

So I am always on the lookout for new places to get books for them, whether it be through the local bookstore or the book orders that come home from school.

But still being able to order online in the convenience of my own home is ideal if possible.

Therefore, I did a bit of research recently and actually came across BookBugs, which is the amazing new “children’s book of the month club” for children. They handpick and send a book each month, tailored to your child’s reading level and interests.

Upon learning of BookBugs, I decided to reach out to them via Twitter and was very pleasantly surprised when both co-founders, Dave Rader and Ryan Greer took the time to communicate with me directly.

These two men were true gentlemen to me and could tell that they really love what they are doing.  See they are also close friends, who had simply a dream and vision to build a company that make profits while also improving the lives of children by inspiring reading amongst.

If you’re raising a reader at heart like I am here, then you’re going to love this monthly book club for kids!

How does BookBugs work?

Sign up for the monthly subscription, which is $8.99 per month for paperbacks and $15.99 for hard cover editions, plus $3 for shipping.

A cute young girl reading a book

Once you do indeed sign up for the monthly subscription, you will be directed to a survey that you can tell them your child’s preferences age and reading level.  Once they have this information, they will handpick an award-winning book for your little one based upon your reader’s age, interests, and reading level – even increasing the reading level throughout the year. Then, they will send it off to your budding reader to enjoy.

Smart kid in class. Happy child against blackboard. Education concept

The best part: for every three books that BookBugs sends, they donate one to a child in need through their non-profit partners who work with underprivileged kids.

And there is more!!

Right now as a special for the holidays, BookBugs is FREE for the first month’s subscription, by using the promo code: GIVEBOOKS2015.  You will just have to pay $3 for shipping and get a brand new book delivered to your home perfectly suited to your child’s reading needs and preference, too.

Free and the perfect holiday gift for all kids–a win-win if you ask me!

Happily by the way, we just tried BookBugs out and our first read was Camilla the Cupcake Fairy by Tim Bugbird, which is about a fairy that is excited to be given her very first wand, but her lack of experience leads to alarming results! However, with perseverance and the help of her friends she finally creates the tastiest ever cupcake topping!

Camilla the Cupcake Fairy

I have to share that it was the perfect choice for my girls, who absolutely love Pinkalicious, have other books in this series (too) and are fairy tales lovers galore.

Reading BookBugs Camilla the Cupcake Fairy

So, BookBugs really does their homework with having subscribers complete the previously mentioned survey.

By the way, my girls absolutely enjoyed this book.

Job well done by BookBugs again and we are definitely happy subscribers here.

This book monthly subscription truly is the perfect holiday gift for all young kids out there.

Awesome idea, and I love that your girls love to read so much. I think I’ve blamed boring reading school reading lists for my girls’ lack of book love, but it must have come down to me. As little ones, they always loved a book, a goodnight story … I’m not sure where it went wrong!

    • Janine says

      December 21, 2015 at 4:22 pm

Eli, I hope to god it doesn’t go wrong in the end, but if it does you know I will most likely blame myself on this one, too still! 😉

  16. Marilyn says

I love the photos of the girls reading the book. It is so refreshing to see little girls who adore fairies and the color of pink. I wish there were more little girls who embraced these things. Your daughters are adorable and lovely young ladies.
Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas and a new year filled with blessings and happiness.

Is this the one that used to actually be called “Book of the Month Club”? If so, then I did this for my kids for YEARS, and it was the best investment! We received quality books they wanted to hear over and over and over.

    • Janine says

      December 27, 2015 at 6:22 pm

I am not sure to be honest, but the service we received was awesome. So I would totally agree about it being the best investment by far, too! 😉
