With summer winding once again down and back to school almost upon us, we are slowly in prep mode for what is to come next week for our girls. We bought backpacks, school supplies, sneakers, clothes and more. Plus, we purchased more books to read, as well.
Still, my girls love to read even when school isn’t in session. See they are true bookworms! But with reading and books, this means we need bookmarks. This bookmark need is because my girls still love to read real and physical books. So, yes bookmarks are indeed required.
Plus, my older daughter had to make a bookmark for her summer school reading project. This kid read multiple books this summer. She even finished her summer reading book ages ago. But we put the bookmark creation off until recent times. We finished it in the last few days.
Therefore, we are indeed all about bookmarks here right now. Luckily, we came up with a carefree kid and family-friendly bookmark craft. We used the concept of bookworms, because of the idea mentioned above of my kids being bookworms. Trust me simple, fun, and perfect for all bookworms. Also, perfect for a back to school family-friendly activity, too. With a few essential supplies, including googly eyes, circle cutters, and cardstock paper, we were set to go!
What better time than now to share a fun back to school bookworms bookmark craft tutorial for all ages to make?

Back to School Bookworms Bookmark DIY Craft
Ingredients
- Scrapbook paper or card stock
- Scissors
- Small googly eyes
- Elmer’s glue
- Marker
- Small 2-3” circle/lid, I used a bubble lid. You can also find a variety of circle cutters.
- Pencil
Instructions
- Trace your small circle lid onto a couple pieces of scrapbook paper so you have 5 circles.
- Cut out the circles with scissors.
- Start gluing the circles together in a wavy line.
- Glue two googly eyes onto the circle farthest right and draw a smiley face underneath.
- Let dry overnight and use as a bookmark.
See how easy that was! Again just in time for back to school and reading for all bookworms.

I drove by the high school yesterday, on the way to the Market, and the sports teams were out practicing, and it felt like fall. It must be that time when parents start preparing their kids. Anyway, wishing you a brilliant Thursday.

MEMEME! I’m a bookworm! The kind that could own a bookstore and have a coffee shop and an upstairs meditation room and…and…I LOVE THIS!
I actually wonder if more kiddos had fun creating a bookmark and being all creative if it might spur them on to read. A story + creativity – I love that every time! π
In any case, I hope you’ve had a great Monday! I had to head out early this morning, so I’m a little late in making it here today but I wish you a *fabulous* week, my friend! Sending hugs!
Janine says
Aw, many, many hugs right back to you and yes was a great Monday. Last Monday of Summer Vacation and tried our best to enjoy every last moment of it here. Oh and I am with you as I wish I could own a bookstore (maybe someday), too π

Ack, the cute! Scarlet used to call bookmarks “bookmonks” and it sort of stuck. For 4th grade, studies have determined that homework isn’t actually helpful for growth so she has no homework this year. Only reading! I know that sounds SO western MA, but we’ll just go with it!
Janine says
Omg, I am so jealous as both my girls most definitely are going to have homework this year, which is my least favorite time of the day!!
Rosey says
Awww I might make these with my students to use during their silent reading or read-to-a-friend time. They’re always asking for my paperclips to mark their spots. This is cuter. π
Janine says
Yay and hope you can make with your students, too π
Rhonda Gales says
These are so cute Janine. I’m working hard to get my granddaughter to appreciate a love of books. Making these book worms with her on rainy day is a great start. Thanks for sharing.
Janine says
So happy to share and truly just glad both my girls are indeed bookworms, too π
