Finally it is May (Monday is Cinco De Mayo!) and even still the weather is not as warm as I would like it to be quite honest (sorry for the complaint, but can’t help, but love it to be warm, sunny and very little wind after recent wind storms we have had).
In particular, last Sunday, it wasn’t even 60 degrees, wind ripping and standing watching the girls play was a bit of torture for me, as I was indeed pretty much freezing. Hoping the warm air will find us sooner now rather then later.
But still have so much to be thankful for and sharing all my regular Saturday thankful things for this first weekend in the month of May now.
1. Kevin’s co-worker finding Disney Elsa Barbie Dolls at Disney World for the girls that Lily decided to use water colors (black paint) to color her doll’s hair, as well as Emma sticking a sticky Wicky Stick as a ponytail holder on the end of the doll’s hair. No pictures, because I fixed the doll up immediately, but still thank god for soap and water is all I have to say not his!
2. Getting the actual paperwork for Emma’s kindergarten orientation. Definitely some mixed feelings about this, but am thankful that she is growing and thriving, too.
3. Saturday afternoon found me finally going through the girls toys to clean and get rid of toys they no longer need or play with. Felt good to have three big bags of toys to donate.
4. Being able to barbecue sliders for the first time this spring season.
5. Also, being able to take the girls for frozen yogurt for the first time this year with some warmer weather finally making an appearance.
6. Submitting my writing to three different book anthologies and hoping to be selected now for at the very least one of them. Fingers, toes and pretty much everything crossed on this.
7. Sunday afternoon lunch date at Panera, while the girls had a play date, Kevin and I got to have lunch all on our own at Panera.
8. Macy’s friends and family sale – buying a Mother’s Day gift from Kevin for me and also buying Kevin an early birthday gift from me to him.
9. Beginning to read Eating Wildly: Foraging for Life, Love and the Perfect Meal by fellow writer, Ava Chin. So far enjoying it and will be sharing a review in weeks to come here.
10. Last, but not least for receiving the April Julep Maven Box at the end of this past week. This month, I opted to go with The Fresh Twist Polish Lover Upgrade and got 9 full size polishes to try. I am not kidding when I say I am so excited to do my nails I could just squeal. Stay tuned for all the different manicures coming your way soon!

I love the nail polishes too! So cute!
I bet you do have mixed feelings about Emma starting K! It's such a FUN year for the kids…I bet you'll be really involved and active with their activities…I think K was my favorite year with all three. Is an exciting time!
Have a GREAT weekend (ok the rest of it)! I've been babysitting a little four month old for the last two days…you forget how much attention they need at that age…I'm exhausted! Lol
Janine Huldie says
Thank you Kelly for saying that and I do have such mixed feelings and just can’t believe my baby is starting kindergarten, but to hear how much you loved that year in particular for your own girls made me smile and definitely something to look forward to.
And as for the 4 month old, I loved when my girls were that little, but I also do remember how much time they needed for everything from me and probably why I much as I love seeing little babies I am ok with being done with that stage here for the most part. And do hope you too very much enjoy the rest of the weekend now:)

LOVE your list Janine!!! SO glad you got a date at Panera and that you submitted your work to THREE book submissions… you are SO on the ball. I don't know how you do it- and AND clean out the toys and barbie dolls!!!
Kindergarten is a tough transition… but for some reason? The anticipation of it was more than the actual day. I remember thinking how I cam going to BAWL when she walks off with her class-
Instead I sighed and smiled and thought, 'this isn't so bad. It's actually quite lovely."

Chris, thankfully 2 out of the three articles were already written on my end and just had to polish up a bit. But still was so happy to even get to submit and would just hope that even one of them would consider me for these articles. As for Kindergarten, you and Kelly now have made me feel a bit better. Seriously, can't believe the range of emotions I am having and definitely know that there will be more to come before all is said and done before September now. π

So much deliciousness here! I love anything with a pickle and fries. And I'm laughing/groaning about the Barbie doll's hair!
I am contemplating the anthologies. I like to try to do EVERYTHING always, but I think they might not be the right fits for me.
But I ache to see my name in print again! I know it will happen.

Oh yeah, kindergarten – so bittersweet. Now that my daughter is older I appreciate her growth more and it's not as sad when she levels up a grade. Your posts always make me hungry! Now I want a burger and some frozen yogurt! I agree with you; I hate the wind, whether it's warm or cold. Gives me a horrible head and ear ache every time. And how exciting for Emma to get her kindergarten orientation letter! Don't be sad that she's growing up. You're supposed to be working yourself out of a job, and this is one step.
Janine Huldie says
Aww, thanks Dyanne and so glad to know it isn’t just me about that pesky wind either π

Kindergarten! Wow! Somebody's getting big π It is such a bittersweet thing and it really never stops, so many more firsts to come. I remember sitting on a football field once and it was freezing, the wind blowing and it actually HURT! So I know it's not even a little bit fun to watch your kids play when it's like that. Hey! A lunch date for you and Kevin? Awesome! I will keep all of my appendages crossed for you too on the writing stuff. I'm sure it's not necessary, you're fantastic, but I'll do it anyway!

BBQ sliders…yum! Great TToT. I dig the idea of nail polish, but can't ever keep it on my fingers. And I'm not good at putting it on, so I generally don't, even on my toenails. Maybe I'll change my ways this year. π
Janine Huldie says
Rose, I hope you do and I just have too much fun painting both my finer and toenails, too π

Janine,
It looks like you had a wonderful week. There is nothing better than a grilled hamburger. I am so glad it is warmer so we can grill without freezing.
For me, it was so difficult to send my kids to kindergarten. Enjoy this summer and do not thing about it.

Let's hope some warm weather will come and stay….and a little less rain would be nice too. Good luck with getting into an anthology….I'll say some prayers. Hope you got something nice for yourself for Mother's Day from Kevin and the girls. Seeing Emma's kindergarten papers make it real that she is in fact going into kindergarten! In a way, thank goodness she is growing and moving along (as we get older!). Hope the week ahead is a good one. Love…..xxoo
Janine Huldie says
Aunt Gloria, I am seriously praying for warm weather like right now. Saturday was such a tease and then yesterday had to go and be cold and windy again. Just hoping that it will find us soon and stick around longer then a day at a time. And I know glad Emma is growing up, but time is sure indeed flying, too. Love you xoxo!! π

It’s always good to be aware of the many blessings we have. To be able to do things for our family and loved ones. Some people in other countries can’t. They’re too busy dodging bullets and bombs.

Very true Susan and thanks for weighing in on this today.

WooHooo! A date. How fun. Those colors look so dreamy, I would be squealing too. Aww… kindergarden… it was just yesterday. Each stage is a little fun and a little sad. Savor both feelings with as much joy as possible. They are what make life delicious. Glad you are finally getting some summer weather. Crossing things for the anthologies.
Janine Huldie says
Aww, thanks so much and hope you too are having great weather and wonderful week so far, too!! π
