If the shoe fits, then maybe her prince does await someday. Ok, so Lily is only two years old, but this kid has seen Cinderella so many times now since it was re-released on TV that she loves everything about her including her glass slippers and she even sings herself Cinderella’s song (Clean the laundry, do the dishes..) as she is falling asleep.
So, I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised by this past morning’s activities that got her so riled up. We were in the bathroom, she had used the potty and was now getting dressed. I had forgotten to take socks in there with us and still had to help Emma get dressed, because Emma is my true princess in every sense of the word having to wear skirts and tights everyday. So, of course, she can’t get into those damned tights by herself.
Thinking ahead of myself, I turned to Lily and said, “Go get socks in the other room for yourself. Bring them back in here and I will help you with them.”
Off she went and I figured I would have a jump start on getting those darn tights on Emma. Incidentally, I was able to dress Emma in her tights and even her whole outfit, because Lily apparently got lost on the way. When I finished with Emma and found Lily, she had found the tiniest pair of black patent leather baby shoes, as well as these huge (Ten sizes too big for her) pink slipper socks.
The black patent leather shoes were actually Emma’s from her first ever Christmas pictures at JC Penny. She was only 4 months old and I had purchased a pair in a size 1 and they were too big for her. I had to go back to Babies R Us right before the photo shoot and get her a size 0, because she was that tiny and petite. I recently had found them when I went through some stuff, but couldn’t part with them, because they really were Emma’s first pair of shoes. So, call me sentimental, but I had to keep them for memories’ sake.
Back to this morning, Lily is sitting trying to squeeze her huge slipper sock feet into Emma’s old tiny black patent leather shoe. When I try to explain that they are too small for her and that they were Emma’s as a baby, she had a meltdown of epic proportions. You would have thought I was telling her that Cinderella’s glass slipper didn’t fit and the prince wasn’t hers after all. She was screaming bloody murder over these little shoes. If it weren’t so comical, I probably would have screamed, but the sight of her with this shoe hanging off her toe was too much for me and I just laughed so hard I cried.
Here is what I got to see this morning. I dare you not to laugh even a little bit, because it was like watching her try to squeeze her sausage foot into a bun ten sizes too small. And by the way, I guess her prince won’t be coming today or tomorrow either!!!

Awww, very sweet! Her prince will definitely find her someday! Thank you for the giggle, I needed that this morning.
JanineHuldie says
Thanks Emily and I couldn't help but sure. This is my life and it makes me a bit more sane somehow living for each moment and sharing if that makes sense 🙂
Bill says
LOL…that is so funny and so typical of that age. There is no reasoning with them; once they get a thought in their head it's full speed ahead…..those shoes look mighty painful. 🙂 Thanks for the entertainment this morning; now I have work to do.
JanineHuldie says
Thanks Bill and it really was pretty funny. She just couldn't understand or be reasoned with, but we couldn't help, but laugh!! Have a wonderful day and talk to you later 🙂
JanineHuldie says
So very true Clark and I am choosing to live and enjoy as much of my life and world that I can now. But I am sure my kids will do something crazy later, to make me want to pull my hair out. But still they are mine and love them so 🙂

I would have to agree with you Amy on wanting to be able to wear shoes that still may not fit. I had this issue right after my first pregnancy when my foot grew one size. I desperately wanted to fit into my cute smaller shoes, but it wasn't happening, but thankfully after a few months returned to its right size. That said just couldn't resist sharing this, because she was too darn cute and funny (even through the screaming). I needed that laugh more than life itself and thought I would at least share and pass it on 🙂

I can relate to your incident…these innocent souls when it gets into their head to do something…they will not budge…lol
the other day my son insisted on wearing his 4 year old sweater to school…it hardly fitted him but nah! he kept on insisting. Finally, I gave into his request. I believe his teacher had to help him get it out since he was not comfortable towards the school session.
JanineHuldie says
Oh Ruchira, than you for putting a smile back on my face and know it just isn't my own kids that are that thick and stubborn. Seriously, I totally agree when they get something into their heads, it is just best to go with it!!
Stephanie Sprenger says
What a funny story! So unpredictable what disappointments are going to set them off! And, oh my, that picture was adorable! Thanks for including an update on the Star for Ben…
JanineHuldie says
Happy to share this story Stephanie and so true that I never know what will set them off. As for the picture, I couldn't help, but need to have that one for years to come. My pleasure with the update and just happy to be able to help in any small way.
Meredith says
Thanks for sharing all the info about how we can help, Janine. So organized and helpful. And those shoes are too much! Love them! I save stuff like that too 🙂
JanineHuldie says
No problem Meredith and happy to pass this on, because I feel it truly the least I can do for this family. As for the shoes, I truly couldn't help, but share. She was just so intent on wearing them and the look of them was too much not to laugh for me.
Gina Adams says
I feel the same way about my Nike's and will pitch an epic fit if I misplace them. Great post, as always!
JanineHuldie says
Gina, I hear you on the Nike's and love mine too, as well as my Uggs, oh and my flip-flops in the warmer weather, lol!! Seriously, I think I see a pattern and where she gets her love of shoes from!!! 🙂

Thanks so very much Cyndi and as for the blog hops, I joined one and then then I started getting e-mails for others and before I knew it I have been pretty much able to join at least one daily. Love them and probably a bit of an addict, now lol 🙂
Stacy Harris says
I have to say… I am ridiculously sentimental as well. I have all these little shoes floating around… and a few outfits as well. I just can't seem to get rid of them.
JanineHuldie says
Thanks Stacy and glad to know it just isn't me. I have her baby book full and cards from my shower from her, birth and christening. Can't seem to part with this stuff.
Courtney says
That's a really nice idea for tomorrow.
JanineHuldie says
Thanks Courtney. I think so too and hope other blogger with do the same 🙂
Dani Ryan says
SHE IS SO CUTE!!!!!
JanineHuldie says
Oh thanks Dani and seriously she is right on the ball this kid. Can't put anything over on her. Wait until I share what she did today. Seriously, this kid is going to make me old before my time, lol!!
gigigirl says
Lily goy her characters mixed up….it's the stepsisters who couldn't squeeze their feet into the slipper. But try to get her to get that at the moment she was having her meltdown! Hope it all worked out OK after all…..and someday her prince will come. Oh wait, that's Snow White, not Cinderella! What the heck. A prince is a prince! So cute. Lots of love….Aunt Gloria
JanineHuldie says
Lol, Aunt Gloria. I did indeed work itself out until the next meltdown of the day, but so is the life of a two year old. Thanks and send our love right back to you 🙂 🙂 xoxo!!!
JanineHuldie says
Thanks Melanie and so glad I took those pictures, because I never want to forget that sight, it was truly priceless 🙂 🙂
