Back when we were contemplating adding a puppy to our home, we barely discussed the concept of pet hair.
See growing up, I had two dogs. Both were from the terrier family, specifically Australian Terrier and Yorkshire Terrier. We never seemed to have a real pet hair issue with those two dog breeds.
My husband’s family always had larger dogs, specifically Golden Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers and more. He was more than familiar with the issue of pet hair.
However he only briefly mentioned this to me. When looking at puppies, we were leaning more towards Golden and Labrador Retrievers.
In the end, we added Elsa, our now 4 year old Golden Retriever dog into our home. I recall being told at the vet that we would be in for it with her hair. One of the attendants mentioned that we would need to keep up with brushing her to help.
But still, I was truly naive to the pet hair scenario that would befall us with our golden.
Honestly she sheds like a champ. So much so that any black item clothing needs to be constantly lint brushed if we don’t keep up with her pet hair through grooming and more.
See slowly, but surely we have learned the tricks of the trade to help combat our dog’s pet hair in our home.
But how so?
Read on now for the 5 ways that we have found to help in controlling pet hair in our home….
5 Perfect Tips to Clean Pet Hair
1. Brush your shedding pet daily if possible.
When the young vet attendant mentioned about brushing our dog, he wasn’t kidding. See brushing helps release some of the stray dog hair that would otherwise find its way onto my floors and others surfaces here. If not possible to brush, daily at the very least weekly will also help.
2. Grooming and descending appointments regularly, too.
Brushing can only take care of the hair so far. Regular grooming appointments with de-shedding treatments are a must for dogs and/or pets that naturally shed often. I happen to find that not only does grooming help, but the de-shedding techniques work a world of wonder where our own dog’s shedding is concerned.
3. Clean Fur in Your Home from the top down.
Many might think to clean the floors first. But when dealing with cleaning surfaces that may still get some of the excess hair from your dog, working on table surfaces whether dusting or just cleaning with light chemicals helps. Why? Because any thing that isn’t caught in this first round of cleaning will ultimately fall to the floor where it can easily be mopped up or vacuumed.
4. Mop hard wood, laminate and tile floors often.
We have a variation of floors in our own home. In our kitchen and living area, we have dark laminate floors. But in our bathroom, we have tile. And still in bedroom areas, we have carpeting. For the laminate floors, I have mopping to be essential. For this job, I recently starting using Libman Freedom® Mop Spray. I absolutely love this mop.
Why?
Because it has a neck that swivels 360 degrees for extra control to reach tough spots.
It also comes with a thick microfiber pad that cleans deep and is machine washable up to 100 times.
Plus you can use the Libman Freedom® Spray Mop to clean your wood floors, laminate, tile, marble, linoleum, stone, and more.
Or you can even use any cleaning other liquid cleaning product with this mop, too.
The Lipman Freedom® Mop truly is a godsend to help in keeping many different floor surfaces clean from pet hair and more.
5. Vacuum carpeted areas, too.
But what if you have carpeting, too. While you can’t use a mop for this, you can always vacuum. Therefore, I recommend getting a vacuum that is pet hair friendly at the very least.
