Long time no “Currently” update here. See I meant to write an update of sorts since May. But June with end of school craziness, extra added job opportunities, July birthday and anniversary celebrations for our family, plus our annual Disney trip, found my time limited for a “Currently” share.
[Tweet “What is Currently going on with you??”]
But being August, still technically summer vacation here and a bit on the lazier side right about now, I am finally able to give “Currently” its fair share due here.
So sit back and find out more about what is going on with us right now with Currently August 2017 edition…
Reading…
So, I admit I have slowed up reading this past summer. I have no excuses. However, I just lost my mojo a bit the past month or so. But finally I am reading a bit more. So, here is a sampling of what I recently read:
Moxie, by Jennifer Mathieu
Thanks to back to school offering this one to read an ARC free, I started reading about a young teenage girl, who is to start her own feminine revolution in her Texas high school. I put it down to first read the next book below. But when I did come back to it, I did quite enjoy it. I will promise to share more though on this in an upcoming book roundup review here.
Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson
My Quarterly subscription recently renewed and I got three new books to read. While I can’t seem to write poetry for anything, I absolutely love reading it. Always have. So this memoir written in poetry form about her childhood and what it was like to grow up as an African American girl growing up in the 1960s and 1970s, caught my attention. Honestly, I put down Moxie for this one and devoured it.
Both books though have an underlying theme of hope, inspiration and of good triumphing all. Which right about now, I think we could all use a bit more of.
Watching…
With regular TV network season on hiatus for summer, been watching less newer TV as there isn’t anything new to really view other than CNN and MSNBC. But have been binge watching older cult classic movies on cable, Netflix and Hulu, such as follows:
Dazed and Confused
The Burbs
Fast Times At Richmond High
Clerks (and much, much more)
Also been doing backyard movie nights with the likes of the Trolls Movie and Cinderella. But between weather not complying on the weekends, as well as my husband cutting his finger pretty badly putting away the screen one night, we have slowed on this. Hope to get a few more of these nights in this summer though.
Listening…
Because it is summer and I am not wanting it to end, check a fun Spotify playlist I am currently jamming out to…
Sun Soaked Country Playlist on Spotify
Eating…
Just because I can I am most definitely enjoying this Cannoli Cream recipe I shared here recently…
Plus, my girls cannot get enough of the Gummy Worms Popsicles I also posted up here, too…
But fresh back from vacationing at Disney, I am still tasting a few treats we had there this summer so far, too.
Such as at Epcot’s World Showcase in Italy at Via Napoli, there Artichoke Pizza, which was to die for.
Also, finally having stayed at the Disney Polynesian Resort, we enjoyed Dole Whip found exclusively at Pineapple Lanai there.
Dreaming & Planning…
Speaking of Disney World though, I am seriously missing and dreaming about it right now.
See I actually was missing it even before I left on the last day.
Because it is so very hard to return to reality after being on vacation for a week in the most magical place on Earth. Plus most know that I am a Disney lover from way back.
That said I am currently planning a late fall trip back to celebrate the holidays and my younger girl’s birthday there now. Because Disney, Christmas and Birthdays, who can resist that?!
Now though, still a few weeks left of summer though and trying not to think about back to school just yet. But I know that it is looming on the horizon for us. So, the immediate planning has Back to School written all over it in the short term for us.

The artichoke pizza looks amazing! Wow! I need to do that next time I go to Disney in Feb! I love your currently posts, thanks for the book suggestions too!
Janine says
Nellie, Via Napoli is the place to be for the artichoke pizza. Seriously, the best pizza I have had in a long time by far and it is right in Italy in Epcot at the World Showcase. And always happy to recommend books to you, too 🙂

August has been a whirlwind month for me. There’s so much going on, with the kids back in school it has truly been crazy. I’m with you there on Disney, I’m already looking forward to heading back and in just a few weeks we’ll be back again enjoying Halloween. Wish we could have seen you there to collect candy together, but maybe next time. Here’s to a fantastic weekend!
Janine says
Aw, would have loved to have do that with you guys, too. Seriously though will get to Disney for Halloween one year soon, too though 😉
Dara says
I’m so jealous that you stayed at the Polynesian!
Janine says
Dara, the Polynesian is absolutely gorgeous, as well as a little bit of paradise and I cannot wait to go back there now. 🙂

Those look like good books. I love the Burbs. My older kids and I watched it this summer! Tom Hanks is a classic! Nothing beats Dole whipped 🙂
Janine says
Couldn’t agree more about Tom Hanks and Dole Whip, too 🙂

Well, we binge-watched Shameless last night. LOL I just love that show, and Bev and I were too tired to do anything other than veg out.
Other than that well, there’s the writing, and the urban farm, and the farmers markets, and painting, and other chores, and……
Happy Weekend, Janine!
Janine says
Mt husband loves Shameless and never watched it myself. But have heard great things still. And Happy Weekend to you, too 🙂

The pizza does look amazing! We love pizza of any kind so I will have to try it. We are also dreaming of being at Disney. We cannot wait until January. It is the most magical time of our year.
Take care!

Moxie looks awesome. Nothing more exciting than reading about someone’s feminine revolution. I’ve seen Fast Time at Richmond High over a thousand times!!!!! I love that movie. Clerks is also a classic. OMG this Artichoke Pizza looks delicious.
Janine says
Aw, thanks Mary and hope you can try at least one of these soon, too now 🙂

It’s been a busy summer. I’m always sad to see it come to a close….you know I’m not a winter person! The artichoke pizza looks amazing….almost worth the trip to Disney! Looking forward to our visit next weekend. xxoo

Well, I am listening to the “end of summer” sounds in the backyard…. hate to see the days shortening. Today I will be watching the eclipse (safely!), although I’m not in the direct path. A friend is in NC right under totality – so cool! Eating? Well, I’ve been eating a lot of green beans because my garden has been prolific in that crop this year!
Janine says
Aw, love hearing what you are “Currently” up, too as well. But like you I have no desire to see summer truly come to an end either now. Enjoy the eclipse viewing today, as well 🙂
Cynthia says
Your currently August post is awesome. Loved reading about Disney, loved reading about the books you’re reading (I really must check out “Brown Girl Dreaming,” and all the yummy food, desserts, and music and even the videos! Wowza! You have been a busy-bee, too, with travel, extra job ops, and more. So, so good! So happy for you! I hope you have a wonderful week, sweet friend! Sending you mega hugs! xoxo

Mm… those recipes. SO GOOD.
I’m dreaming of Disney myself. It’s almost time to book for it! My friend just got a flight for $120 round trip in September.
Janine says
Wow, to $120 and if I could find a cheap flight like that I’d find my way down sooner than November now myself!! 😉
Dana says
I love the Dole whip in the Magic Kingdom…I assume it’s similar to the one at the Polynesian. My kids are so ready to go back to Disney but it’s not going to happen for awhile…so happy for you that you get to go again this year.
Janine says
Thanks Dana. I didn’t try the one at Magic Kingdom, but have heard it is pretty similar to the Polynesian one, too. And do hope you and your kids can return to do when you can now, too 🙂

You all are so damn cute! You and your husband look so youthful.
Clerks is one of my favorite movies. Hilarious!

Currently, I’m gearing up for Eve’s first year of school. (How did that happen?!) She starts preschool so soon, which I cannot believe. And currently also gearing up for my next trade show (It’s going to be a busy September!) Sounds like you had a wonderful summer, here’s to a fantastic fall!
Janine says
