My birthday, Emma’s Summer Birthday Celebration at Pre-school, the day after the girls 6 PM dance recital and Monday.
What do these three things have in common?
They all are on the same day!
Yes, it is Monday, but it is not a normal or ordinary Monday. If I am not as present, please forgive me, because I am truly otherwise occupied.
First and foremost, it is my 36th birthday. God help me and just another year closer to forty!! Seriously, I am so taking my Aunt Gloria’s lead staying 39 forever when I reach 39 years old, because it is just a family thing!!
From the Rehearsal, But No Pictures Were Allowed Last Night!!But seriously, it is definitely my birthday. But last night, after a long year of practicing, the girls finally had their dance recital. Emma danced and did a Hawaiian Hula type dance. So cute and she seriously had the swiveling and shaking of her hips down. Mental note to keep this one under lock and key as a teenager!!
And Lily danced to Rosemary Clooney’s song, “Me and My Teddy Bear”, all decked out in pink. Her outfit was as I put it “Glittertastic!” and as one of the other kid’s father deemed it to look like all the mother’s who dressed them to have just exited “A Strip Club”. But the dance itself was absolutely priceless and the 2 year old class looked like little dolls.
But again, the show didn’t end until almost 9 pm, but shh, we left at intermission after the girls were both done. What better way to celebrate then at Friendly’s for dinner and ice cream!! We had a ton of fun, but by the time we finished and got home, got the girls settled and in bed, it was quite late.
Celebrating at Friendly’s!!So, definite Monday morning dance recital hangover.
And did I mention, Emma will be 4 years old on July 17th (about a little over a month from now), but since there is no school in the summer, the teachers allow those with summer birthdays to celebrate before school ends next week.
So today, Kevin is taking a half day from work to go with Lily and I to bring store bought cupcakes (school allergies deem they be store bought) to celebrate Emma’s almost 4th birthday.
Wonder how confused she will be having the kids at school sing Happy Birthday to her in the afternoon and then have Carvel Cake for dear old mom later on in the day. Should definitely be interesting.
And it is still very much Monday, so seriously have a heart and know that I am probably having that much more of a crazy Monday when all is said and done!!
And please do understand if I am not as present this Monday as I usually am.
Now, I am so pleased to be a part of an awesome giveaway that is being run by my bloggy friend, Dawn from Dawn’s Disaster. Now, I will let Dawn announce it in her own words!!

Good grief Janine, that IS a crazy Monday! I thought I had it rough because I had to be up and have David at work by 7 today! 😉 The girls are beautiful in their dance recital finest! The "no-photos" rule would drive me crazy… are there professional pics on the way? Is that why they disallow parents from taking pics of the big event? (Forgive my ignorance, we've never done the dance recital thing here.)
Happy Birthday to you! 36 is not old, not at all! David will be 37 in December, and I keep telling him the same thing — you're not even middle aged yet! Have a wonderful day!
My recent post Done Having Babies?
Janine Huldie says
Oh thanks for saying that about 36 years old and totally feel it somedays though I guess. And I know crazy about not being able to take pictures, but they so need to make even more money off of us. I refuse though and took my pictures on rehearsal day. Seriously, we do pay enough and really can't justify it, but that is just me!! And thank you Heather for being just you and a wonderful friend!! 🙂
Krissy says
The reason they do not allow pics during a recital is 1) it is distracting to other audience members & to the dancers 2) besides being a distraction it is dangerous. When a flash goes off in your face you are blinded for a second. Imagine 16 girls dancing around a stage with tons of flashes going off. They could be seriously hurt by crashing into someone or even worse fall off the stage. & 3) we do not know everyone who walks into that theater. How do we know that the man taking pictures ( or video) is really Sally's Uncle joe. It is for the safety of your children. Besides -many people do want photos or videos of their children online whether it is public or private. It has nothing to do with money. After the owner pays the theater rental fee (including the fee for the dress rehearsal rental), pays the mantinence team, security, program fees, lighting director, sound man & many other added expenses she s not making anything by doing a recital.
Just thought this should be said. Studio owners & their teachers work extremely hard to put a good show on for you & your children. We do it to pass on our love of dance & performing to your children -not for money….
Janine Huldie says
Krissy, honestly I am fine with the pictures and video we got. It is not an issue to me, but I am in the process of looking to purchase a house so we just cannot afford the video right now with our finances. But trust me I understand why it is done that way and have no issues. I just posted to explain why those are the only pictures I have, because I always take pictures of everything. Those who don't do dance, probably don't know the protocol and understand the rational of this and thank you for explaining it here, because it is not only my birthday, but was celebrating Emma's July (summer birthday) at school today. So I honestly have been trying to do three things at once as usual. And really didn't have a moment to explain that, as well.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABE!!!!! I will be 38 in October, so you can at least say you are younger than me. LOL I am looking forward to 40, but I am a weird chick, I know.
I bet they were so happy to celebrate afterwards and the time at Friendly's looks fun. I would have left early too,
Janine Huldie says
Lol, Karen. Thank you for saying that and seriously, I am starting to realize we may not be as old as I feel somedays!! And I think Friendly's was the better bet then sitting there with them on our laps for another 1 1/2 hours!!

Happy Day as Boo says! Even if it does exhaust you 🙂 I let Allie take dance lessons once. It was torture, they put the little kids as the first and last dance which meant you had to sit through all the older kids practicing for that strip bar. I was so happy when Allie said one year was enough for her!! But I am glad you had a great day, even if it means you have cake hangover.
My recent post A moment to say WOW
Janine Huldie says
That sounded awful. The teacher suggested we stay until the end, because the older kids would pull the younger kids back on the sage. We tried this last year during Emma's first recital and it was a huge cluster. Emma didn't want to go up, so this year, we said thanks, but no thanks. She even tried to say that the show was only 2 hours, but my niece is on the competition team and didn't get home until after 9 pm. That was closer to three hours (show started at 6 pm) then 2 hours. And just no way my girls would have sat that long on our laps. So the ice cream was the the right move I think for us!! 🙂
Lanaya says
Again, HAPPY HAPPY Birthday!!! We will be 39 forever! And still look good doing it too 🙂
And can you believe for the six years we live on the East coast we NEVER went into a Friendlys? Right??
