In a nutshell, Disney Plus is Amazing and it’s worth the insanely low cost. However, there are some cons to Disney Plus to consider. Especially since the cost is such a factor in value and subscription prices always go up eventually. Here is a brief Disney Plus review with all the pros and cons of the Disney Plus Streaming Service.
The pros and cons of Disney plus
Pro -The Ultimate Premium Disney Package
The big draw for Disney Plus is that it has all of pretty much anything Disney. For the most part, this is true. There is a ton of archived Disney productions that redefine the term “original content”. Of course, the platform also streams brand new shows for Marvel, Star Wars and Disney Channel fans. Disney Plus is like the Disney Channel back when it aired classic movies, documentaries, and cartoons all from Disney. Disney Plus includes Pixar and Fox as well and even National Geographic. There is a fair amount of new shows on the horizon in the reality TV space as well. One is a marvel project that celebrates kids who are real heroes in their communities.
Con-Licensing Hang-ups
Although there is a mind-numbing variety of productions, a lot of Disney properties and films are not available yet. The main reason for this is licensing commitments that must expire before Disney is free to once again use their content. Netflix and Dish TV is still able to show some Disney movies including recent films from Marvel and Pixar. Those movies will not be available in the short term.
Another consideration is the legal obligations of a slightly different sort. Daredevil and the rest of the Defenders will not be seen on Disney Plus anytime soon as Disney is legally barred from even considering productions for these already canceled characters. Once a pre-specified period elapses, Disney will once again be free to move forward with a new Daredevil or Luke Cage series, but it will take a long time to develop and Disney has many other projects coming up from Marvel, such as Moon Knight and She-Hulk.
Pro-Low Cost Subscription
A huge win on the Disney Plus side is that it is so inexpensive to have. $6.99 per month is such a small price to pay for access to such a vast library of media. Even without Marvel, Star Wars, and Jeff Goldblum, the streaming platform would be well worth a subscription, just to have access to the classic live-action and animated features. Con-Losing Fox Films to the Disney Vault
One strange thing that has been happening in the wake of the Fox merger and Disney Plus is that Fox films are disappearing. local stories have been covering the loss of independent theaters’ rights to show films like Fight Club for example. The Disney Vault is a revolving system that keeps the supply in check and ensures demand as films are re-released over intervals of seven years. The tactic began with Walt Disney’s theatrical releases and carried over into home video. Now it appears that Fox movies are subject to the same practice and they are disappearing.
Con-Overall Execution
There are some minor concerns about Disney Plus and rather than pile on a bunch of cons, we think it’s best to address them as a general mild complaint. The interface is a bit buggy. You will see titles you want to watch and you have to click on them before finding out the title is not available yet. Another potential issue is the rumor that some titles already have expiration dates set. It appears that the vast library of content is not going to be as reliable as we all believed.
Titles might be added while others are removed, much like what we already see on Netflix. The other thing that has come up for many fans of the original classics is Disney censorship and meddling with the product. A few examples are a censored Simpsons Episode, A confusing new Star Wars edit, and irritating disclaimers ahead of beloved Disney films such as Dumbo and Peter Pan.
