“Mommy, I am letting Elsa play with me and my toy doggie.”
For Christmas last year, my now almost 5 year old asked for a FurReal Puppy dog from Santa, even though she had a real life golden retriever puppy, who she helped in naming Elsa (yes she was named after the infamous Disney Frozen character).
Don’t get me wrong, our whole family, including my youngest, adores our now one year old dog, but still she wanted a fake version who would listen to her every command back last Christmas on top of her real life fur baby, too.
See this little lady is a bit on the bossy side at times.
Being the younger sister by 16 months, she usually is on the receiving end of being bossed around by her older sister though.
And yet our real life dog more than happily plays along more often than not now. After all, Elsa is not just another pretty face and truly a wise and loving dog, who knows how to sit, shake paw, lay down, come and even fetch.
But Elsa is the baby of the family, for all intents and purposes being our only fur baby. So where my 4 year old is concerned, this is her chance to rule the kingdom over Elsa, her younger sibling so to speak.
So this one Sunday recently, I pretty much got told how it was going down with the not quite 5 year old expecting Elsa to play along with her fake doggie and her, since her older sister was at soccer she turned to Elsa for her sole entertainment.
Poor Elsa just sat there obediently listening and even was being quite the mush for her.
Just another day with my girls spending quality time with each other.
Since Elsa is indeed pretty much like one of my girls, I try my best to not leave her out ever either, like when I go shopping for school snacks for the girls at Target weekly, I usually pick her up a snack or treat, as well.
Recently, I was turned onto Purina Beyond Snacks White Meat Chicken Cutlets Natural Dog Snacks for Elsa, which can be found at Target in their dog treat aisle. Target really is one of my go-to stores for my family to be quite honest.
What we love about these treats are that Elsa not only seems to enjoy them, but they are a healthy and natural snack for her, which are made with real chicken as the #1 ingredient, without using corn, wheat, or soy.
Trust me dogs (Elsa included) know the difference and where real meat is concerned they most definitely will show their appreciation. These treats also don’t contain any artificial colors, flavors or preservatives and are grain-free. Plus these snacks are crafted in the USA (Arkansas) in small batches.
And as much as I treat Elsa pretty much daily throughout the year, I still can’t help, but do a little something extra special with her for holidays, too.

Yep, you’ve gotta give the doggies treats as well. I’d do the same. π Now tell me…how hard is it to potty train? We’re considering a pup. Considering… we’ll see. π
Janine says
Potty training is definitely a task, but I am thankful that our doggie got it pretty quickly and that is behind us now. But agree got to give our doggie here treats, too now π

Rabia @TheLiebers says
Cute! We’ve tried giving our cat treats, but he always refuses them. He’s eaten pretty much the same dry cat food for 15 years. At least it saves me money!
Janine says
Rabia, our dog would never, ever refuse a treat, but she does fight the heart worm pill prescribed for her! Seriously, she has been known to make it look like she has eaten it only to find it hidden later in some obscure place in our home!
Kathy Radigan says
That is adorable!!!!!!! Love, love, love!!

Janine says
Aw, thanks so much Diane and Elsa is totally spoiled, but like you we wouldn’t have it any other way π

The girls would love a puppy. If I bring these treats home, my kids will probably mistake them for jerky and eat them.

Omg, Kevin thought they were at first, too and thankfully I was a nice wife and set him straight π
Seana Turner says
I lost my sweet dog last year, but I think this is a cute idea. If you know you will have trick-or-treaters coming with their dog in tow, I imagine this would be a lovely surprise!
Janine says
Aw, I wish you could and would certainly have a treat waiting for you π
Dana says
I’m such a mean mommy – I don’t get Nellie any doggie Halloween treats. I do get her a doggie bagel whenever I go to the bagel shop for us, so I don’t feel so bad. But your doggie treat bag is adorable, and so is Elsa!
Janine says
I never got Elsa a doggie bagel, but now I want to look into them for her, too π
Hannah Iway says
We have a 7-month-old dog at home and this treat is awesome for her! We didn’t let her try meat yet but I think that cutlet is a must-try for our beloved pet!
Janine says
Aw, so glad and hope your dog enjoys, too! π
Jhanis says
Such a lucky pup! I miss our dog, we had to let him go when we moved and the apartment where were live now does not allow pets except for fish because it’s a very small compound and no place for him to run around:( I have always felt guilty but the thought that he is taken cared of puts me at ease. Thankful of our neighbor who lovingly adopted him. Still miss him though.
Janine says
Aw, sounds like you had a great neighbor and just happy to hear that someone nice was able to adopt him from you. Thanks Jhanis! π
Emily says
Aww, Elsa is one beautiful dog! It’s amazing how far pet food companies have come in terms of the quality of food and treats. I now have my dog on a raw meat diet — it’s expensive and I joke that it costs more to feed her than my kids, but she loves it and apparently it’s very healthy for her…anything for our dogs!
Janine says
Aw, thanks Emily and yes I agree anything for our dogs! π
Amy Desrosiers says
LOVE this idea for the doggies in my life! Everyone deserves a little trick or treat on Halloween night! #client
Janine says
Aw, thanks Amy and totally agree everyone does deserve a little trick or treat for Halloween!! π

Janine says
Aw, thank you, thank you so much Chris for your kind words and your shares, too π
Aunt Gloria says
Great idea and I know Elsa enjoys all her treats. She is a cutie….and so lucky to be in your family. I’m sure Halloween will be fun for all! xxoo

Jennifer | The Deliberate Mom says
Elsa is such a sweetie! I love that you did a doggie treat bag (my girls would love to help do something like that)! Even the pups like treats on Halloween!
Thanks for sharing.

Leigh Powell Hines says
These are really cute.
Janine says
Aw, thank you so much Leigh!! π
Leslie says
So funny that the little one loves to boss around the dog! Our girls are constantly trying to boss each other around, and I can’t imagine what they would do to a real dog.
Janine says
Leslie, the poor dog wouldn’t have a chance – at least from our house I can say this! π
The Pinterested Parent says
Your dog is so beautiful. We love our pup too! We don’t nearly give him as many treats as we used to. He eats all of our picky girls food. Lol! Your gift bag came out great.
Janine says
Aw, Kim our dog totally gets the leftovers from our picky eater, as well and thank you for your kind words about her treat bag as coming from you means the world to me as you are truly so crafty and talented π
