When I was younger, I can distinctly recall eating my first ever kiss cookie. See my grandmother made them for me. I mean she and my grandfather loved Hershey’s Kisses. They pretty much had them in their house always. To say they were a staple food that my grandmother stocked up on would be an understatement.
But my grandmother used a peanut butter base cookie. A few years ago, I got the idea to try her recipe out at Christmas time here. I used Peppermint Hershey Kisses to make a Christmas version of her kiss cookies. My girls and I loved them.
Houston We Have A Problem!
However, my husband isn’t a fan of the Peppermint Hershey Kisses. He was begging me to make the kiss cookies using the regular Hershey Kisses again. However, he likes peanut butter but doesn’t love it. He does, however, love chocolate.
So, with Valentine’s Day here, I decided now was the time to kiss cookies that he would love. Plus, I mean kisses, Valentine’s Day, they just work perfectly together.
This kiss cookie uses not only chocolate or original Hershey Kisses, but it also uses a fudge chocolate cake mix and chocolate chips, as well. So much chocolate in this cookie. That pretty much any chocolate fan would die for a cookie or two!
Honestly, these are perfect for your chocolate loving Valentine for Valentine’s Day or pretty much any day you want to do something sweet for them.
They are pretty easy to make using a cake mix for the base. Like I said add a bit more chocolate flavor with chocolate chips added to the cookie dough. They bake up pretty quickly, as well in about 10 minutes.
The hardest part is getting the Hershey Kiss not to melt once you press it into your baked, warm cookie. A pro tip for getting the Hershey Kiss not to melt is to transfer them on a cooling rack or plate into the freezer for 5-7 minutes. Trust me this works like a charm!

And did he love them? Oh man…doing these with peanut butter with CARAMEL kisses…hmm…you could do that in the fall when everyone’s going crazy for apples and caramel. (I’d bake them sans the apples, of course. Hehe)
Anyways, these look yummy! I hope you had a great Valentine’s Day. I also wish you a wonderful week ahead!
