“Do you want the Easter Bunny to come?” Yes, I have resorted to using a stuffed bunny rabbit to get my two beastly ladies to behave this past week. Just as I have used Santa and even the Elf on the Shelf in times past, now it is the Easter Bunny’s time to shine.
And sadly I am using this one in all his glory and to the fullest extent of the law to get my point across to have good behavior reign. We got the girls new bikes that the Easter bunny is bringing them. They even got to pick out these new bikes in Toys R Us this past weekend. So, physically they have seen what the Easter Bunny is going to bring them.
Here Are The Bikes that they Easter Bunny Will Be BringingToy R Us was having a sale on bikes and this was the weekend to get them, since the following weekend is Easter. Kevin and my brother put the two bikes together and they sit in the garage now until easter Sunday.
And now every time, they misbehave, which with a 3 year old and 2 year old is seriously more often like not, I am now hearing myself say, “If you aren’t good, the Easter Bunny isn’t coming!” And faster than you could say “Stop”, they do just that and stop being scootches!!
But here is the thing this ends in less then a week and then I have to create something new. As a child, my mother used “The Bad Man”. No joke, she would tell us that if we didn’t behave that “The Bad Man” was going to come and take our toys away or do something else that we wouldn’t enjoy or like. I still remember being scared about that so-called “Bad Man”. It didn’t take much, but she had us shaking in our boots with a mention of that one.
After Easter though, we don’t have much else coming up except Emma’s birthday and I could very well use the birthday card I suppose with her. But Lily not so much, because November is truly a long way off and don’t think that would quite work for her just yet.
I could also use the other one my mom was known to speak, which was, “Wait until your father gets home!” But again that one doesn’t quite work, because Kevin truly isn’t the type of guy that instills fear in our two girls. I am more the disciplinarian here, so if they are to fear anyone it is more me then him. Yes, I am more the bad cop as many know by reading this blog by now. My father was more th bad cop, so that is how my mom got away with that one.
So now I am left with only a few short days left of using the Easter Bunny to keep my two in line and trying desperately to come up with a new way to continue to accomplish the same behavior goals without the use of the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus or that damned Elf!!
If you have any suggestions, please feel free to hit me up the comments I am all ears, because I need all the help I can get. Help a tired and worn out momma!!

Misty MeetTheCottons says
it is the year of easter bikes! and i am so happy to hear that i am not the only one using the easter bunny threat!
Janine Huldie says
Awesome Misty and sounds like we are truly thinking alike on this one!! 🙂
Susan Zutautas says
I'm trying to think way back 23 years ago and what I used to say to my twins, when they were 2 or 3, and I needed a threat with no holidays or birthdays about to happen. It was probably something along the lines of "If you don't stop there will be no park this year. If I can think of anything better I'll come back and let you know. Good luck 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Thanks Susan and may try that one. I need something, because my girls as much as I love them and they can be so good, can be so bad, too!!
Sara says
Ha that was like at Christmas I started using Santa as a threat in October. If you come up with something that works for the spring/summer I would love to kow.
Janine Huldie says
Sara, same here and Santa was used from mid October on. I promise to share if I do find something that works!! 🙂
Dani Ryan says
I remember watching an episode of Supernanny once where a woman used to yell, "I'm going to make a phone call!!!!" if her kids were misbehaving. That phone call was to her husband, who pretended to be a police officer. You can imagine the field day Supernanny had with that one, but it was hilarious!!!
Janine Huldie says
Lol, I am laughing totally on that one and seriously I am sure she did have a field day with that!! Thanks Dani!! 🙂
The Dose of Reality says
Laughing so hard! I am totally pulling out the Easter Bunny today, I can just tell! 😉 I pretty much threaten to remove all the toys from our home on a regular basis…the first time my children saw me snap open the Hefty garbage bag they knew I was serious! 😉
Janine Huldie says
Oh I love the Hefty bag idea and seriously last night my husband was threatening to throw all the toys away, because Toys R Us exploded again in their room and no one was making any kind of effort to clean up. So remembering this for the next time!! 🙂
The Sadder But Wiser says
Oh Dani I love the police officer one. I just threaten to text or call daddy at work. My husband does instill fear in my kids. I can't say it always works, but sometimes it gives me some leverage. Since we don't do Santa and haven't talked much about the Easter bunny I guess I have missed out on some great bribery, huh?
My daughter's birthday is the first week in May and I am thinking about upgrading her from a tricycle to a bicycle. I love the bikes you got the girls! She wants the Hello Kitty bike the have at Target. Of course!
Janine take comfort in the fact that you two very normal little girls. They have to keep us on our toes by testing us! 😀
Janine Huldie says
Thanks Stephanie and I am with you loved the police officer, too!! by the way, Target has the Hello Kitty Bike on sale this week for $67. Totally check it out if you can!! 🙂
Eddy Jones says
Woderful as always Janine;my children now have children of their own but this does not stop me from enjoying your posts Janine. This one being no exception ;I love this Easter Bunny share.Mind you my children may be grown up but we are surrounded by grandkids ;there being 11 at the moment ; but 12 in June and 13 in August . So haven't really had the chance to fgrget what little ones are like.I think i appreciate your honesty in all your hubs too my friend. Here's wishing you a wonderful day and here's lots of love from my little corner of Wales all for you and your wonderful family.
Eddy..
Janine Huldie says
Oh thanks so much Eddy and truly glad my post are relatable and it isn't just me!! As for my hubs, he is a wonderful man, but a big softie underneath it all, so my girls do know this (they aren't stupid!!). Lots of love right back to you!! 🙂
Roshni Aamom says
My mom used to use the 'wait till your dad comes home' trick too! And, my dad used to work long hours, so I was scared of him! It was only in my teens that I realized that my mom was stricter than he was! Of course, those days, everybody got whalloped for misbehaving!
Do they respond to time-outs? That was the only way I could instil some kind of calmness in our house! Both my boys hated sitting in one place and being bored, so they would try and change their behavior if I threatened a time-out!
Janine Huldie says
They do int he end respond to time-outs, but truly a scream-fest getting there!! Same here by the way with my mom actually being the stricter of the two, but she did a good job covering that one up I guess!!
Kristi Campbell says
Love that you use the Easter Bunny to get good behavior. And I'm impressed that bunny is bringing the girls bikes! We usually just got crappy candy and a book. I use chocolate for bribes here. And cookies. But that's probably not very good parenting so maybe don't listen to me. 😉
Janine Huldie says
Lol, love the chocolate and nothing completely wrong with the bribing (hey sometimes you have to do what you have to do for sanity's sake!). As for the bikes, we really wanted to do it back at Christmas time, but would have been defeated the purpose, because it was winter and too cold. So we just waited for Easter, but usually it is one small toy and a basket with candy here, too!!
Kathy at kissing the says
I love that you call them "scootches." That's better than what I call my boys sometimes! 😉 What are holidays for but to give our children thinly veiled threats that we have no intention of carrying out?
Janine Huldie says
Love the way you think Kathy and couldn't agree more. And would love to know what you call your boys, lol!! 🙂
Bre @ Peacoats and P says
Bahahaha! The "Bad Man", that sounds scary! I can't wait until Brynn is old enough to understand threats like that lol She's already one of those let's push it and see what we can get away with kids.
Janine Huldie says
Bre sounds like Lily and she is constantly pushing to see how far she can get, but has wicked smile that you just can't stay mad at!! And I know the bad man used to scare the bejesus out of me!!
Michelle Nahom says
Nothing wrong with a little bribery!!
Janine Huldie says
Lol, Michelle so true and like the way you think!! 🙂
Christina (Tina) Mor says
Have consequences, like taking TV time away or something similar. The "Bad Man" is too scary a concept. Or, reward good behavior. That works like a charm. 😉
Janine Huldie says
Consequences are good and like your suggestion Christina. Thanks you 🙂
Bill says
I hope your kids have a great Easter, Janine! It's a great holiday for little ones. 🙂
Janine Huldie says
So true Bill and thanks so much as always!! 🙂
Janine Huldie says
All great suggestions and I am with you on not being enforce that kind of punishment either, but the taking away stuff sounds like a great way and may need to try. Thank you seriously Heather and really truly appreciate you sharing what works for you!! 🙂
Christy Birmingham says
Awww I laughed as I read your post because I sooo remember my parents threatening Santa and Easter Bunny won't come if I don't behave myself!! Hehehehe I think all parents use that tactic! Oh and those bikes are sooo sweet, love the pink!!
Janine Huldie says
Christy, I think we all use this one from time to time. And thanks seriously for sharing!! 🙂
Ryan Naylor says
Nice bikes, lucky girls, just in time for the nice weather, too! Hmm, since I don't have kids my only advice would be to distract them or guide them to another 'thing'. Maybe some way they can 'help mommy', and make them feel good doing that.
Janine Huldie says
Thanks Ryan and honestly for not having kids great suggestions!! 🙂
Lanaya @ Raising Rea says
LOL … I could have written this post too. The Easter bunny is definitely being used to it's fullest advantage as well. Reagan wants to act out and I immediately tell her that Easter isn't going to come if she keeps having a fit. So, needless to say .. I'm milking it for as long as I can while she is still young and doesn't know any better.
Cute bikes!!

Janine Huldie says
Yet again, Lanaya great minds think alike here. I love it and seriously think you and I were separated at birth at times like this, lol!! 🙂 xoxo!!
Cyndi says
You could invent the Birthday Fairy. The birthday fairy who will bring more gifts to good children and cheap, bad gifts to children who misbehave. HAAHA. I have no idea…but I'm taking notes. 😉
Janine Huldie says
I like the birthday fairy, but just not sure it will hold as much water from April to July for Emma and all the way until November with Lily, but then again they have no concept of time, so I could probably try it and see. Thanks Cyndi!! 🙂
erintheirishmama says
Good luck and if you come up with any new ideas please share!!!! I have been telling Ben he can't go to a friends party if he acts up
Janine Huldie says
Liking the consequences Erin and totally will share if I come up with something!! 🙂
Jenni B says
Hahaha! Nice…. I use to do that too…. It always worked best with Santa. Now it is all about taking away what he likes and wants most to teach him to behave.
Janine Huldie says
Thanks Jenni and yes Santa truly seems to hold the most weight still, but I am truly loving how the consequences keep coming up and definitely trying this more often now!!
Janine Huldie says
Invent away Julie and will totally use whatever you come up with to the fullest, lol!! 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Lol, leave it to Hallmark Clark and love the Memorial Fairy, too funny my friend!! 🙂
Tracy Etherton says
If my children were fighting over something, I would take that away until they could come up with a plan to share it. If they were just fighting to fight, I would simply start taking away privileges for the rest of the day until they stopped the fighting. It would be "3-2-1, okay, no tv………. 3-2-1, okay, no outside………. 3-2-1, okay, in your room for the rest of the day, etc. Usually, after the first few times, just counting down stopped the fighting.
Janine Huldie says
Thanks Tracy for the advice and sounds like a great plan. Will definitely have to try it!! 🙂
Robin Rue says
I get as much mileage out of the Easter Bunny and Santa as I can….the Elf on the Shelf definitley helped keep them in line at Christmas time, too. Hey, whatever it takes, right? The bikes are awesome by the way!
Janine Huldie says
Oh thanks so much Robin and seriously glad it isn't just me, too. Oh and I too used that Elf as much as humanly possible and wanted to cry when I had to put him away!!
Jelli says
Haha. Hope the girls and your entire family had a wonderful Easter after all!
Janine Huldie says
Oh thank you so much Jelli and we totally did!! 🙂
