Where do I begin to share some of our older photos with you. Yes sounds like a stupid question since I have been doing this segment for about 2 months or so give or take, but each week I have come up with a theme, especially being lucky enough to have holidays fall right around the time of my Flashback Wednesday posts, but this week we are past most of those holidays, including Easter. The next holiday isn’t until May with Mother’s Day and Kevin Birthday conveniently falling on the same day this year.
So, I thought long and hard for this week’s share and then as I was looking through the photos it dawned on me which picture (only one this week), I wanted to share. To explain why, I have to start with about a week ago. Emma and Lily were fighting over the Donald Duck stuffed animal they we have from the Disney Store. At the time, we purchased him, we only had one, because Emma truly loved Donald Duck and was the only one who had eyes for him. Lily could care less and as much she liked the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Show, she was more into the FreshBeat Band.
We also had bought Donald to gently replace Emma’s “Baby Donald Duck” complete with rattle inside that was given to her as a gift from Kevin brother, when he and our sister-in-law had gone to Disney on vacation when Emma was a baby.
Emma carried Baby Donald with her everywhere. He was her first true “lovie”, better then any blanket in her eyes and he definitely shows his wear at this point. But anyway, we gently phased him out and she ended up having some many more toys on top of this that she did kind of forget about him.
Fast forward, to last week and the fight over Donald Duck between the girls. I took Baby Donald out of his storage box that he had been in to let Emma have him, while Lily would take the other Donald. This way they each had Donald in some shape or form, take a nap and I would get some peace and quiet (hey win-win on so many levels!). I thought, I would get Baby Donald back casually after her nap.
Guess what? Emma fell back in love with him and she has him in her bed now whenever she goes to sleep. Kevin and I were going to make him disappear again, but she said to me, “Don’t take Baby Donald Mommy, I missed him so much and need him.” That was all it took and Baby Donald seems to be here to stay for now.
By the way in the above photo, you can see Emma and Baby Donald back in the Summer of 2010. She loved him more than live itself and he was heading out the door with her to swim class!!

Robin Rue says
Awww, how cute. My oldest had a sheep that he carried with him for YEARS named sheepy. That thing went with us everywhere and he just loved it, but my youngest, who is now 5 had no interest in things like that.
Janine Huldie says
Robin, Emma had Donald, but Lily has an actual blanket that she is attached to. Go figure that two kids could be so different!!
Dani Ryan says
Aw, that's so cute! My daughter's lovey is a small taggies triangle. She hooks her left finger through one of the tags. It's SO cute!!!
Janine Huldie says
That does sound adorable Dani and I know the blanket you are talking about, because we have that blanket, but neither of my kids ever really seemed to notice. Interesting as to what they attach themselves to 🙂
Sara says
Aww baby Donald Duck is soo cute. I recently had the same thing happen when my son recently rediscovered his Scout puppy from when he was a baby. Scout has been going everywhere with us. Hopefully he outgrows it again.
Janine Huldie says
Glad to know it isn't just us Sara and Emma and Lily, too each had Violet (Scout's sister) as babies, but I believe we donated them recently. Neither really played with them anymore and their never was an attachment, but Donald was Emma's main squeeze and Lily has one blanket that is her favorite. Interesting though as to what each kid becomes attached to 🙂
erintheirishmama says
Oh she is too cute!!!! Baby Donald is as big as her

Diana Chastain says
Thank you for mentioning me, Hun! 😀
SweetPea is in love with a Mickey Mouse doll, it was a Curious George. She also is quite attached to a blanket. The only thing she has that I want to take away is her pacifier. I think I'm going to bargain with her, please give me the paci and you can have the other lovies until college. 😀
Janine Huldie says
My pleasure mentioning you Diana!!! And love your reasoning with Sweetpea 🙂
The Sadder But Wiser says
My daughter has gone through phases with which is her favorite-when she was little it was two stuffed monkeys that she carried everywhere. Then it was Mr Bear. The the donkey twins. Lately it has varied-mostly stuffed kitties. I think it's sweet that she loves her stuffed animals so much. But the blankie… oh my that poor grungy blankie-that's what she loves more than life itself and has had since birth… It was the first thing I bought when I knew I was having a girl. Pretty special to her and her mama. 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Lily has that grungy blankie and it was actually a gift to Emma that she never took to and Lily found and never let go!! And the stuffed animals, we do have a ton, too!! 🙂
Stephanie Sprenger says
Sweetest picture ever! Makes me wonder what we will do with Sophie's lovies- "night-night bunny" and "fat cat". We will miss these days for sure…
Janine Huldie says
Thanks Stephanie and you may just find, Sophie will find it again and just need it like Emma!!
Melanie Chisnall says
Oh my gosh Janine, that is too cute for words! Love that grin on her face and can relate to her loving Donald duck that much. I still have my carebear from when I was 6!!!
Janine Huldie says
I had Carebears, too Melanie and can't help but love her face in this picture myself!! 🙂

Cyndi says
Janine – your girls are so cute! And I can't believe how far you've come with your blog and everything. What also is really neat is that we get to watch your girls grow up before our very eyes. 🙂 I hope you have a wonderful Wednesday. HUGS!
Janine Huldie says
Oh Cyndi, my pleasure to have them grow up on here. I actually love that I can look back and see the growth. And my blog honestly is the best way to chronicle this just wish I would have started sooner, but I am loving that I can use Wednesdays to Flashback a bit!! 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Too cute and love that you too loved Donald Duck, Julie!! 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Thanks Amy and so true. I had tons of stuffed animals and dolls growing up. I remember how hard it really was to part with so many when I began to outgrow them myself.
Kristi Campbell says
I like how you said you had to "gently" replace Baby Donald. I can relate to that! Adorable picture too! 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Thanks Kristi and glad someone else could relate to the idea of "gently" replace her lovey!!

That is one happy little girl with her Donald Duck. Got to go with the flow here. Love, Aunt Gloria
Janine Huldie says
So true Aunt Gloria and she truly does love him!! xoxo and love, too!! 🙂
Lisa Newlin says
That's how I was with this stuffed dog I had named Muffin. I fricking loved that dog and took it everywhere. It's funny how kids get attached to one specific thing. And you know that two Donald Ducks is never enough!
Cute post! 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Oh so true Lisa about the two Donald Ducks!! And I know very interesting indeed to see what each kid does become attached to 🙂
Roshni Aamom says
awww….so very, very cute! For Little a, it's his Curious George monkey! He even takes him to preschool!
Janine Huldie says
So cute and we have a Curious George doll, too, but no one ended up being attached to him. Emma loved watching his show and we had bought him for her after she had to give blood at a year old.
Camille Griffiths says
Awww, how cute that she remembered him after all that time!
Janine Huldie says
I know Camille, it was like time stood still for just a moment!! 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Richard, I think this is something that you can never forget and I do surprise myself at how much I remember from when I was a kid, too 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Oh, thanks Michelle and truly my pleasure!! 🙂
Judy Haughton-James says
Cute picture of Emma with Baby Donald. My favourite stuffed animal as a child was a small rabbit!:) Have a good day.
Janine Huldie says
Thanks so much Judy and I have to admit I never really had one thing that was that one thing if that makes sense, but seeing Emma's reaction and slowly learning what this means to her and a small child!! Hope you too are having a great day!! 🙂
Chris Carter says
