Once in public I saw someone do…
A few weeks back we were in car about 2 minutes from our home stopped at light (yes my girls are right, red does mean stop!), when Kevin started to laugh. I looked over to see what he was smiling at and it was the guy who clearly was a guy, but dressed like a woman.
Yes he/she was definitely dressed for walking the street.
I had never seen this person before, but apparently Kevin has and even told me that he/she comes out more when the weather changes.
See it really wasn’t the appearance that was so shocking as I have indeed seen guys dressed in drag before (won’t get into this and really is a story for another day), but it was what he doing that was more or less entertaining and that would be putting on a show for all that passed him by.
He was dancing, talking to himself all fully made up. I guess it takes all kinds and probably shouldn’t have laughed, but in the moment was hard not to react this way, because we live in the suburbs and stuff like this doesn’t happen everyday. Even though we live only 45 minutes out of NYC, where this is definitely much more common, it really isn’t here and also haven’t been to NYC in some time, so yes I was intrigued.
I also wished I took a picture, but got my chance days later when I saw him/her crossing another busy intersection entertaining his/her fans by strutting right through said intersection.
Both days that I saw this person, it was warm and sunny out, but if it had been a rainy day wonder if he still would have lingered to indeed entertain us.
But for this wondering what I like to do on rainy days, wonder no more, because today’s October Daily prompt is as follows and will indeed leave you will all the answers on this:
What are the things you love to do on a rainy day. List them.
- Snuggle and cuddle with kids extra long in the morning.

I was a teenager in the 60's….I don't even know which event to mention; it seems like every single day I saw something totally bizarre. π Have a great Friday Janine!
Janine Huldie says
Bill, I can only imagine and totally do believe you though. I know I have seen other crazy things in my time, but this just happened and was so fresh in my mind when I saw this prompt and just had to share. And now hoping you too have a great Friday π
Kristi Campbell says
I actually thought about writing about men/women transvestites, as I went to college in Berekely but I decided um, that I didn't know what to say? Great job and I so don't believe you that this was pulled out of your @ss.
Janine Huldie says
Kristi, I know I have seen plenty of interesting things in my time, but this literally just happened and like I said to Bill was very fresh on my mind. So, when I started to write this is where the sentence took me. I still feel like I did pull this out of my ass just a bit, but thank you seriously for your kind words π
Rich Rumple says
A man dressed up like a woman … actually, haven't women been dressing up like men for years? Styles have changed drastically in the business world over the last couple of decades. Business suits, minus the necktie, and such have been seen much more. I mean, just look at Hilary …. okay, forget I said that. No one wants to look at Hilary. Anyway, you know what I mean. Good post!
Janine Huldie says
Oh man Rich, you totally made me smile on this and you are so right now one wants to look at Hillary!! Thank you my friend, because I am off to bed in a few and totally made my night on that one! π
massholemommy says
I bet that man in drag was quite the sight lol!
My recent post Carving Pumpkins
Janine Huldie says
Totally a sight Robin, especially because where I live people don't even really go out and hang out in the front parts of their homes, let alone put on shows in the middle of a busy intersection.
@Mrs_KarenC says
OMG…it does take all kinds and I wonder if people think that about when I talk to the audio book in my car….I LOVE doing all those things on rainy days…
though with a wild boy…we don't much cuddle time without it turning into a wresting match…but it's still fun nonetheless.
What a cute photo of Kevin and the girls.
My recent post DID I REALLY JUST SEE THAT?
Janine Huldie says
Seriously does Karen and I feel the same way about myself. I went out at the end of the summer to pick up my birth control from the local Walgreen's in a comfortable sundress I tend to wear more around the house and when I asked about getting a flu shot, the girl working there asked me if I was pregnant. Yup last time I wore that dress out!!
Chris @HyeThymeCafe says
Girllll, after living in New Orleans for 13 years, I think I've seen everything, including guys walking around in wedding dresses, etc. And no, I don't mean during Mardi Gras. Although once during Mardi Gras, when I had a friend in from out of town, we were in the French Quarter, and exhausted. It started raining, but everyplace was so crowded, we needed a break. We parked ourselves on someone's doorstep in the gay section of the quarter and ended up having the best day ever! We met so many interesting people and saw some totally crazy sights. It was like a Mad Hatter Fashion Show. π
My recent post Finish the Sentence Friday: "Once, in public, I saw somebody…"
Janine Huldie says
Lol, Chris, I know trust me. Having grown up in Queens and been a city girl most of my life. I honestly have seen so much, but it was where I was seeing it that I guess got me. It is the suburbs that we live in now and you don't see stuff like this here everyday. But I know somewhat you mean and definitely was interesting (and entertaining), too!! π
joellewisler says
You gotta express yourself! I think it's great when someone can feel comfortable enough in their own skin to be who they're going to be.
My recent post How To Embarrass Yourself In Front of Celebrities. A Tutorial.
Janine Huldie says
I totally agree with you and must admit I think I was again just more in shock seeing it where I was seeing it. But seriously I totally enjoyed watching him and he was so having a ton of fun, too!
Lisa @ Golden Spoons says
As I said in my post – all kind of kinds! π And, that chili looks super yummy!
My recent post Got Mayo??
Janine Huldie says
I know Lisa and couldn't agree more. And I posted this and now I want chili if you couldn't guess π
Rosey says
Kindle and a hot beverage sounds good to me!
I used to see cross dressers dancing in the streets when I'd visit or drive through Miami.
My recent post Formal is Out of Style (isn't it?)
Janine Huldie says
Hoping my Kindle and hot cup of tea will be in my near future soon. And I could totally imagine about the streets of Miami!! π
tamaralikecamera says
ha! Well grainy or not, you did get a photo. I was just reading Lisa's piece about a man slathering himself in mayo at a restaurant! Oh, it takes all kinds. I've seen all sorts of spectacles in both NYC and SF. Too many to count. I'm really trying to come up with a good story, but sometimes words fail me. And sometimes my camera does too because I'm just staring open-mouthed.
I did see a flash mob once. That was fun!
My recent post Celebrating The Little Things In Life.
Janine Huldie says
Wow to a flash mob and I know I read Lisa's post and so not a mayo fan, so had to tell her that it made me cringe just slightly. You are right though I got a photo and seriously just couldn't resist, because it just didn't fit into where I was at that moment, but he sure was having fun and I guess that is all that counts!! π
tiffanigoff says
Cute pics and I love the rainy weather! As for the guy/gal entertaining everyone, every town needs a little excitement and a few crazies. Have a great weekend! xoxo tiffani
My recent post Do you decorate spooky or sweet?
Janine Huldie says
So try true about us all needing a bit of craziness in our lives and I do love the rainy weather when I am not going anywhere, but just staying home to have a relaxing (as much as you can have with kids) day. And by the way, check out my post from Thursday when you can (hint, you were mentioned!). Have a great weekend now, too π xoxo!!
dianeroark says
Janine, You girls are so precious! They look like they had a great day. I would love the pancakes and just having a relaxing day with my family. As my kids get older, 22, 17, 17, 15, and 11, they are rarely home. I cherish the rainy day memories when they were small. You are a great mom. Keep making memories that will last a lifetime.
Blessings, Diane Roark http://www.recipesforourdailybread.com

How nice that you have such entertainment in your town! We have a guy who rides his bicycle on the side of the highway, and he's always wearing a huge hat that looks like a mohawk. Everyone knows who he is but I don't think anyone has ever met him.
My recent post A Deranged Ask Away Friday
Janine Huldie says
I know he really is great entertainment for sure, but haven't seen him in the last week or so now. And I would love to see the mohawk hat that guy wears now for sure π

Girl, this post is a total diet killer. I will not be satisfied until I have some chocolate chip pancakes, chili (that I AM making this weekend), hot cocoa, and some meringues. YUM!!!
May you have many sunny, entertaining stop light experiences in the future! π –Lisa
Janine Huldie says
Thanks so much Lisa and sorry for the diet killer, but just couldn't resist!!! π
realhousewife says
That's hilarious and I'd have laughed too! There used to be a guy downtown that would literally dance down the street with a set of morraccas! He'd be doing piorettes, spins and even a few double axels! LOL. He always wore very colorful blousy, flowing shirts. I have no idea why…but I read about him in the paper too. Guess he caught a lot of people by surprise:)
Janine Huldie says
I am glad it wasn't just me with wanting to react by laughing, because I felt bad as I was writing this, but seriously he totally entertained me and think truly that was his goal so I am happy to report that he totally succeeded. But yes he too totally did catch me off my guard!! π
@TaoOfPoop says
I loved the title of this! You had me cracking up from the get-go! As you can imagine, I love stuff like that. I'd better, since I live in NYC!
My recent post Encounters in New York City

Rachel, I know being a NYC girl (too) at heart (having grown up in Queens), I still love stuff like this so and seriously you can take the girl out of the city, but you can't take the city out of the girl!! π
stephanie2006 says
Haha, I saw a guy in drag in the hardware store several years ago.. So weird.. He wore a dress (with unshaven legs), long, blonde wig, wide-brimmed sun hat, unshaven face and make-up.. I didn't quite believe my eyes, and maybe even was a little shocked, because that was the last thing I expected π
My recent post Got Print?
Janine Huldie says
Stephanie, that was how I felt. I truly didn't expect to see him in the middle of intersection nor did I expect him to be so happy and dancing whiling putting on a show. But definitely was fun and can't say enough how I did smile from this!! π

We don't usually get too much excitement here. The movie Deeds was filmed partially in our downtown (actually there have been several movies here) and although I not the patient sort that will wait to get an autograph, I heard Adam Sandler was patient and so nice to people here. I was a fan before, now even more so!
My recent post #AskAwayFriday with Jodi from The Noise of Boys

Michelle, you just made me have more respect for Adam Sandler, too with that story. Seriously, sounds like he really is a very nice guy and honestly so glad to hear that π

Great story! Let me tell you , I see so many people every day that I wish I had taken the time to photograph. I can't add a dude dressed in drag to that list yet….I'll have to pay better attention, especially since one of my October challenge topics is "5 People I Noticed Today"! You have such a sweet family! I love seeing their pics and I am right there with you with a book or Kindle and hot tea for me!
My recent post Blog Soup Challenge Day Six: Am I A Good Mom?

I totally hope you can add this to your list, because I will admit he put a smile on my face and made my day. So his mission was accomplished!! And thank you as always for all your kind words about my family. Here is to some Kindle reading and tea drinking real soon for both of us!! π
