What do I and a cool party have in common? Sadly nowadays not much, but still who doesn’t like to be included and even attend. So, I had been seeing Facebook and Twitter posts for the past few Sundays for the #Spikedpunch Twitter party that many bloggers I follow have been hosting and attending. With the holidays, it just wasn’t going to happen, so I didn’t even think about it, but then this past Sunday somehow I thought I would check it out for the first time.
Now, the first thing I knew was Twitter moves fast, I mean lightening speed fast, but I I am on there daily and am fast typer on the keyboard, too. Hell, I even took typing in high school. Yes, I am that old that typing class entailed using an old manual typewriter. This was before the times of fancy desktops, laptops and even iPads/tablets.
I hated typing, I really did. I was miserable and truly horrible at it in the beginning of that school year, but then something miraculous happened. I got really good and quite fast at typing. And as much as in the beginning, I was counting down the days that I could and would be allowed to use the correct key on the typewriter in the last or final quarter of that school year, I truly didn’t need it at that point, because I was hardly making any mistakes at all by that point. And by the way, this skill and/or class has served me quite well over the years in subsequent schooling, jobs and even on the internet and social media, like twitter.
Twitter requires speed in reading comments and staying on top of things as I said. Well, I am pretty good at multi-tasking. Look I take care of a 3 year old, 2 year old, a husband, a house and still work from home writing all day and all week long. I have been asked, how I do it all. I still don’t know!!
My Twitter Response to The Bloggess!!So, I thought that for this Twitter party, I would fair Ok. It started out good and even was welcomed by those who I read daily and enjoy. And, I will admit, it was extremely fun and loved reading all the comments of others and did get a few good ones in myself, including to The Bloggess herself, who showed up for a few short minutes during this party. Yes, she was there, but was gone as quickly as she showed up. I mean if you blinked you probably would have missed her. God only knows how I managed to see her comment and even get a reply in, but still I did.
So, I guess I didn’t do badly, but will say this it was 9 pm after a long Sunday with my husband and kids. I started my morning with being in a nice warm shower and hearing low moaning coming from outside my shower door. It sounded like a cat in heat, but only we don’t have a cat!! I opened the door to find Lily staring at me, while whining and moaning at the same time. Kevin came into to retrieve her and found out later she was getting reprimanded by him for not listening, so she had come to find me for sympathy!! Yes, again as most know this is nothing new as far as my lack of privacy in the bathroom goes.
The Two and The Mess Is What I Found…After my not so peaceful shower, I came out to find Kevin in the middle of organizing toys, because we were started to get overrun by them yet again. I mean we had just donated a massive amount of toys last month, but then Christmas and Santa Claus happened. Well, you get the picture, it looked like Toys R Us on crack around here!! But my nice lazy Sunday turned into anything, but this. I spent half of it dealing with toy organization and the other half running errands and making Lemon Chicken that Kevin just had to have.
A quick background, my mother-in-law makes the best lemon chicken, but has been sick for the past few weeks and run down from the weather. Well, her lovely son (Kevin) hadn’t had his fix of this meal, so he called up his mom and made her give him the recipe, which of course he was going to make. But then again, when the time came he did bread the chicken, but then he conveniently gave the girls a bath while I finished up with dinner. And let’s not forget the dinner cleanup, too. Oh, how I used to laugh at the Palmolive Dish Detergent commercials about about having dish pan hands. Yup, I have those now!!
But I digress. By the grace of god, my kids called it an early night and were actually in bed before 9 pm. It was a miracle and I thought to myself that I may actually get to the Twitter Party after all.
I felt like Cher from “Clueless” and was going to get to attend and put in a a cameo at the “Val Party”!! And I was going to use all my quick-witted sarcasm that I have honed over the years of being a wife and mother, too.
And I did as I said make it there, but again look at all I did before it and then tell me how alert do you think I was for this fast moving party? You guessed it, I was slower than Kevin’s dead turtle from his youth, Myrtle!! So, there I was trying desperately to keep up and come up with some witty comebacks and fighting the urge to fall asleep. I kid you not, I was about three steps away from being a narcoleptic and passing out at my keyboard.
In the end, my typing skills, multi-tasking and smart mouth couldn’t fight the losing battle against my tired aging 35 year old self, even if I did do just Ok as I explained earlier here. I am too young to need to go to bed by 9 pm, but then again for someone who never sits all day and can’t sleep past 6:30- 7 am everyday, I guess sometimes tired and sleep have to win out, but I could have lived with it doing this at another time.
Seriously, this is a great Twitter Party and if you get the chance to check it out. The hashtag is #Spikedpunch and it occurs at 9 pm EST every Sunday night on Twitter, I believe. I swear, I will return one of these days, when my nanny, maid and butler don’t have the day off, I can take a shower in peace and I can even take a nap in the afternoon like those who retire to Florida do. Until then, I will be back!!

Ooh that Twitter party sounds fun! I never heard of it. And sadly I know all about no privacy!
Janine Huldie says
Alexa, it was a lot of fun and just wish I had more energy to have enjoyed it more. As for the no privacy, looks like we are at least in good company 🙂 🙂
Lori V. says
Yeah, I joined that twitter party for a while but was QUICKLY overwhelmed and quit for the sanctity of sleep. I really can't start stuff at 9pm anymore!
Janine Huldie says
Thanks for sharing that Lori and I totally felt like such a loser that I couldn't keep up, but was so damn tired, lol!!
Lori V. says
I might try again – but I'll have to get a nap in first! (if that's possible) I'll look for you next time! 🙂
Janine Huldie says
I hear you on that nap Lori and will look for you, as well if I find that elusive nap, lol 🙂
Melanie Chisnall says
This party sounds like fun! Pity I'll have to wake up at around 5am to take part on my Monday morning time, lol. Maybe I'll give it a try if I have insomnia one of these days. Like you, I also took typing in high school, and we were the last class to use typewriters before compu-typing was introduced. I hated the typewriter, but loved the class because I was one of the quickest typists and we used to just chat in class mostly.
Janine Huldie says
It was totally fun Melanie and if you are suffering from any insomnia, I highly recommend it. Love that I am not the only one who took typing and didn't really love it either!!
Emily Cappo says
It's funny because I ALMOST joined that Twitter party this past Sunday…I was intrigued and wanted to check it out but I was also intimidated and yes, my kids were still awake as they usually are at 9pm every night. Sigh…But still, you've motivated me to make the effort and try it out one of these days. I'm curious because I've never done a Twitter party before and an online party is better than none at all! (oh and btw, i took typing in high school too and I'm a fast typer too b/c of it!)
Janine Huldie says
Oh I wish you would have, because at least I wouldn't have been the only newbie learning the robes. Maybe another time we can join together!! Also, love that I am seeing that you took took typing. Thought I was dating myself and showing just how old I am, lol!!
Kera says
Haha I cracked up at the part about Emma standing outside the bathroom door and moaning like a cat in heat! Isn't it funny that they always come running to us when the daddy doesn't let them do something they want to do? Kids. I've always wanted to join a Twitter party! Maybe next time you decide to do one I'll join in and try it out. Don't know if I could keep up…and it'd definitely have to be at a time when the hubs isn't home!
Janine Huldie says
Kera, I can totally laugh about her laying their moaning too now. Actually when she was doing it, I was honestly not mad, but laughing a bit at that point, too. She really is a character and not just because she is mine. As for the Twitter party, I would love to do it with you, too. Hopefully in the future 🙂
Bill says
That's all I need is something else to do on the computer. Nice thought but there is no way I'm going to that party. 🙂 Have a great day, Janine!
Janine Huldie says
Totally understand Bill, but just couldn't resist poking fun at myself on this one, lol 🙂
Janine Huldie says
I couldn't agree more with you on that. By the way, I assume thinking like this makes me one step out of requiring an AARP card, lol!! But seriously, 9 pm is just too late for me on nights like that I suppose 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Oh thanks Michelle and happy to share with you Michelle 🙂
Cyndi says
I have been missing this party! ahah. Will you remind us in BB – I would love to participate, but alas, I've got some writing and school stuff to do just now, but I'd love to participate in it. 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Oh Cyndi, I will totally remind in the BB and don't even know where my brain was on this one. I decided that night last minute and the weeks before with the holiday were truly a blur for me. But promise to remind 🙂 😉
Ruchira says
I gotta sign onto twitter now to join in this party 🙂
I learnt typing in school as a subject so, pretty darn quick but I guess when it comes to typing those hash tags etc…will suffer…lol
Wishing you some peace times in the bathroom for the coming year, Janine. I feel for ya, sista since that is the only time to unwind in all possible way 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Oh thanks again Ruchira and you should totally join the Twitter Party. But as I said it is fast, but definitely fun 🙂 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Oh so true Kate and will agree if you step away for a moment you miss a ton. I didn't even step away and was struggling to keep up. That said, I am probably just old, lol 🙂
Meredith says
I've heard such great things about the #spikedpunch party! So cool that you could participate and yay for the Bloggess tuning in!
Janine Huldie says
Meredith, it was awesome and the ladies that participate are so welcoming, but I am so tired by 9 pm many nights, but still keep going, but this made me feel like I was truly ready for a nap, lol!! As for The Bloggess, I love her and was just blown away that she did show up 🙂 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Lol, Terrye that image was funny and yet disturbing all at the same time 🙂 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Thanks Jamie and glad to know again I am not alone in thinking they are way fun, but that I am just too tired to keep up. That said if I do try again, I hope to see you there, too 🙂 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Melissa, I think you would totally enjoy this Twitter Party and if you are available at that time, think you should take a look on Sunday. As for the lemon chicken, it came out good, but still Kevin's mom has that special touch!!
Christy Birmingham says
Janine 🙂 Your comments about the speed of Twitter is true – some days it's hard to keep up! But I sooo love it. Hugs!
Janine Huldie says
I hear you on that and do love it too Christy. That said thank you so very much again for tweeting me 🙂 🙂
clarkfarley says
I alternate between:
'I can keep up! my incredible depth of life experience (aka being *way* old) will surely trump* the pace and cleverness of the younger (…and younger) (…and..) generation I meet out here in the blogosphere' and hey, they're moving so fast, they probably won't notice that I am still here (from the last event) and think that I am early!
4:40 am Dec 10th… I rest my case.
*trump… how old does *that* make me sound? lol
Janine Huldie says
Lol, Clark. I know what you mean and can do both of those scenarios rather well myself!!
Stacy Harris says
Twitter party… I really need to get used to this whole twitter thing… never even knew there was a twitter party. I will have to check it out. Now – I have to admit my typing skills are crazy fast. I don't know how they got there and sometimes there are errors that I don't catch, however, my wit isn't fast. By the time I come up with something great to say the moment would have probably passed. But, maybe I will get a chance to check it out anyway! 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Oh Stacy you should definitely check it out. It was truly fun, just have not energy left, at least I didn't last Sunday night by that point.
