Welcome back to Finish The Sentence Friday Blog Hop (FTSF). We give you a sentence and you finish it (however long or short you’d like). Please feel free to link up and follow any or all of our hostesses, which are below.
And now for this week’s sentence to finish: “I thought I was so cool when I…“
Next week’s sentence to finish: ”I am very passionate about…”
I thought I was so cool when I…was a teenager, but then again what teen doesn’t feel this way. Totally is right of passage.
Not Me, But What I Remember Colic Looking Like From Emma!!My mother would tell you that I was a colicky, fussy baby. Then, as a child, she would share that somehow I became a pleasure .
But by the time, I hit 16 years old, I was anything but a pleasure to both my parents. I was a hormonal pain in the ass, who knew everything (or at least I thought so).
I think I have mentioned this before, but my dad was kind of on the old fashioned side and very much of the mind set that what he said went in our house.
Well, at 16 I was definitely too cool for listening to him or thinking he knew anything. So much so that if he said black, I would just say white to piss him off.
And please do not get me started on needing to truly be right and know it all at this tender age.
If my mother ended being right (come on 9 times out of 10 she was, because she has age and wisdom over me), I truly hated to admit it and it would annoy me deep down to no end.
In my thirties though, I have come to expect and even embrace that my mother is usually right. She has lived longer and by default has had more experiences then me.
And yet now, I have come full circle and am the mom who knows nothing, because many days I now truly know absolutely nothing, especially to Emma (my almost 4 year old princess). Everyday she tells me how, she will do it “all by herself” and “I know Momma”, followed by “But Why”!! Funny, because I just had this same conversation with a few of the other girl mothers in Emma’s pre-school just this past week.
And yes by the way in my youth, I really did think I was just that cool. But I would venture to say I am in for it with my two girls twice over in their own teen years!!
Now tell me, in the comments, about your where you would love to live. Or write a post and link it up! And be sure to share my story with all your FB and Twitter friends. Aww, thanks on all accounts Emily. Seriously, you are too kind and put a smile on my face. I couldn't resist using that pic of them again and they truly crack me up!! π
Georgie Lee says
I did the big bangs too. Ah, the shame of it all π
Janine Huldie says
So did I and seriously hanging my head in shame now, lol!!
martha preston says
I thought I was cool after I sat down for 5 hours do get dreads then the next month I decided to dye them red but we messed them up and I ended up looking like a pumpkin
Janine Huldie says
Martha, I feel your pain and once decided to bleach my hair blond. I had it done at a salon. The first time out wasn't terrible, but definitely long. However the next time out when I was having my roots touched up the girl overlapped the bleach and burned my hair. When I went to take a shower later that day my hair was falling out in clumps. Ended up having to cut all my hair off. Yup, definitely not pretty!! Thanks for sharing and just know you weren't alone π
Jean Heff says
I've always been told (and maybe this was because I was such an awful teen) that you get back what you have given twofold. So, since I was a stinker my kids will be even tougher. Maybe that's what's happening in your family. Good luck!
Janine Huldie says
Jean, I was told the same thing and that is why I say I am in for it, lol!! π
Dysfunction Juncetio says
Um, I never thought I wasn't cool π Thanks for hosting Janine!

Janine Huldie says
Lol, Katie and totally my pleasure!! Thank you π
Bill says
When I had bell-bottomed pants in the 60’s. Thank God there are no pictures of me during those days. π Have a great weekend Janine.
Janine Huldie says
I wore Bell Bottoms too when they came back in style during the 90s and thankfully those pictures too are no where to be found, lol!! Have a great weekend to you, too Bill!! π
Georgie Lee says
I thought I was so cool when I crimped my hair. Ah, the big 80’s.
Janine Huldie says
I too owned a crimper Georgie and did the same. Seriously, what were we thinking, lol!! π
Kerri Ames says
I think it is so funny how we all haven’t been cool since we were 16!
Janine Huldie says
Oh so true Kerri and seriously I am so not cool anymore and haven’t been sadly since then, lol!! π
Emily says
I know this is slightly off topic but that pic of your girls in their sunglasses is incredibly cute! At least they are close in age so you will get the teen years over with in a shorter amount of time than if they were further apart in age….as for being cool or trying to be in your teen years, at least you grew into one cool adult. π
Melanie Chisnall says
Hehehe…I can so relate to this post. Well, not to the having kids part, but to being 16 and thinking you know it all. And I was a goody-two shoes, but when I was 16 all I wanted to do was be a bad girl. Purple nails, kissing boys I barely knew, going to all sorts of parties…it was an interesting stage to say the least. My poor mom. Wishing you LOTS and lots of meditation and breathing time before your two little ones hit that age,LOL! π
Janine Huldie says
Thanks Melanie, because I am so going to need it if they are like me, lol!! But kind of happy to know I wasn't the only one who went through this phase.
Christina (Tina) Mor says
I've linked! Your girls are cute. I hope they won't turn out to be difficult teens. Parenting is not for sissies. Thanks for hosting and have a great week!
Janine Huldie says
Thanks again for linking up Christina and my pleasure hosting. Truly appreciate your kind thoughts and I am so keeping my fingers crossed!! π
Dana says
I am probably one of the few people who thinks she's cooler now than she was as a teenager – and that's not saying much! I hope at least one of your girls takes it easy on you as a teenager!
Janine Huldie says
Thanks Dana and I wish I felt cooler now, but to be honest I am too tired ad grouchy many days to feel that way, lol!! π
Cyndi says
hahaha….ya know, I had my "I'm totally cool" moment when I was 7 and was ice skating. I was a "penguin" in an ice show and for a few moments, the spotlight somehow landed on me. I gazed at the light, enjoyed my moment in the spotlight and ran head-on into a prop (a bench) and flipped over and went splat. Oops.
Janine Huldie says
Lol, Cyndi that there sounded like the story of my klutzy life!! Thanks for sharing and putting a smile on my face this Friday morning, because at the very least I know it isn't just me!! π
Janine Huldie says
Lol, Lisa that sounds like me when I was a teenager!! π
AnotherCleanSlate says
I will have to link up next week! I can't think of a too cool moment today π
Janine Huldie says
Oh no worries and look forward to you linking up next week!! π π
Surprise Mama says
I knew I wasn't that cool as a teen, but I knew that I was WAY cooler than my mother. It is a bit scary having a girl now…who knows what the future holds there! Love your blog! Looking forward to linking up this is my first time writing a #FTSF!
Janine Huldie says
Oh totally look forward to your first linkup and thank you so much for joining us this week!! π
Danielle Barfield says

Janine Huldie says
Oh thanks Danielle for linking up. Loved your post and am very happy to be following you back now. The sentence next week is "I am very passionate about..". Also, I always post it in the beginning of the week's post, as well as send out e-mail reminders usually Tuesday nights before the linkup even goes live π
Katia DBE says
Oh yes, the teenage years! I wasn't much of a rebel, but I definitely thought I was smarter than anyone else, especially parental figures π Great topic and these girls of yours, I'm sure they keep you from getting bored! π
Janine Huldie says
Thanks Katia and they sure do keep me on my toes, but in the end I wouldn't have it any other way. Thanks again also for linking up with us!! π
Christy Birmingham says
Yup, my mom has been right about so many things in my life and I didn't realize until time passed… also thought I was cool as a teen π Hey I'm in my 30s too!
Janine Huldie says
Christy, we are probably right about the same age and so with you that it took experiencing things and them being in the past to realize how little I knew an how wrong I was so many times!! Thanks you as always π
Kristi Campbell says
Love the photos! And I was a horrible teenager who stole my dad's liquor, ditched classes and was a general pain in the butt. But I turned out okay (sort of). π
So cute that they already are always right and know everything.
Janine Huldie says
Thanks Kristi and sounds like we would have gotten along famously as teens!! π
Stephanie Sprenger says
It's funny how our little girls give us glimpses of what we have to look forward to in the teen years- God help us!
Janine Huldie says
Oh so true Stephanie and god definitely needs to help us, lol!! π
Kenya Johnson says
Yep! As my dad says, "You know you are going to get paid back right?" As you know I don't have a girl, but with boys its a different ball game. Love that photo of the girls.
Janine Huldie says
Thanks Kenya and again your dad sounds a lot like my own here and yes I know I am so going to get paid back and just waiting now!!
Ruchira says
Actually you have a point, Janine.
I still don't understand how our parents esp moms got to be so mature and level headed. We have the internet and all smart gadgets but still not the know it all parent π
Interesting post, which made me think.
Voted for you!
TGIF!
Janine Huldie says
I know my mom will always have the wisdom of her years over me, but at this point I have learned to accept it and even embrace it. Thanks Ruchira!! π
Janine Huldie says
Thanks Clark. I want to believe that what I went through was a less bratty version, but I know better and sure my kids will give some of the same variety of attitudes someday!!
Dani Ryan says
OMG, I'm so screwed when the teenage years hit. I was a royal pain in the ass too!!!!! We might have to go out for drinks one day, 10+ years from now, to get each other through the teenage years with our own kids!
Janine Huldie says
If that is what it takes, I am so willing to take one for the team on that!! Seriously, you need to live closer, because it may take quite a few nights and many drinks to get through it, lol!! Love you Dani π
Janine Huldie says
Lol, Julie. I am laughing even more, because Kevin calls me PITA, when I drive him crazy and matches my Scooch for when he drives me mad!! π
jamie@southmainmuse says
We have a 12 yo tweenager that has become the sassiest mouth overnight. Lots of rolling eyes and how I don't know anything. I just hope it doesn't get much worse before it gets better. And your dad sounds a lot like my dad. "What he said went in our house." Good luck with those two uber-cuties.
Janine Huldie says
Oh thanks Jamie and so sorry you are going through this now and just know my time will be coming in the future. And glad to know it wasn't only my dad, who was like this!!
Michelle Liew says
Oh yes, when the kids get to their teens…..battles with cool dom! Thanks for sharing, Janine!
Janine Huldie says
My pleasure Michelle and thanks as always my friend!! π
Joan Veronica Robert says
Such a lovely post! This is so true, and now I live with an 8 year old who says just about the same things. She is shaping to be a holy terror in her teens!
Janine Huldie says
Oh Joan, my heart goes out to you and believe me we already have our moments here and am so not looking forward to the teens years here either!!
Kate Hall says
Our 4year olds sound alike. My daughter was just saying today, "I do myself," in re: to brushing her teeth. She wants to do it all. It's kind of cute…unless we're in a hurry.
Janine Huldie says
So true Kate. It can be really cute, but when I need to go somewhere or get something done quickly then truly not so cute!!
