Welcome back to Finish The Sentence Friday Blog Hop (FTSF).  We give you a sentence and you finish it (however long or short you’d like).  Please feel free to link up and follow any or all of our hostesses, which are below.

And now for this week’s sentence to finish:  “The best fourth of July I had was…”
And the next sentence to finish in two weeks from now (THERE IS NO LINKUP NEXT WEEK, BECAUSE OF 4TH OF JULY!):  “If I could go back and do something over it would be…”

The best fourth of July I had was…

I will be honest and tell you that most years it has been the same with barbecues and sparkly fireworks.

Not much has changed over the years. But will share a bit anyways.

Sparklers Like These Gave Me Quite a Scare As a Kid!!

The Early Years

One time when I was kid, I recall doing sparklers at nighttime with neighbor’s daughter and having her burn herself pretty badly from a spark that landed on her finger.

I will say that experience definitely left me a bit more cautious with fireworks.

My Teen Years

As a teen, I remember going to a local park to watch the fireworks go off with friends. Again, nothing special. Just another random 4th of July thing to do.

My Twenties

In my twenties, one year friends and I went out to the Hamptons (yes I live in Long Island about 45 minutes west of this famous locale). Partying it up and again just a normal twenty something thing to do to celebrate.

When I met Kevin, it was actually days after the 4th of July in 2003.

Every year after, we would celebrate the 4th pretty much with a barbecue (again). And yet again nothing special. But July 12th, we would always do up a bit and celebrate the anniversary of our 1st date.

And then in 2006, we actually spent the 4th, readying ourselves for one of the most special days of our lives–our wedding day.

We got married July 8, 2006. It was raining that July 4th and remembered praying to the sunshine gods to make the 8th as sunny as possible.

Well, lo and behold, July 8th came and I woke to beautiful sunshine streaming in my bedroom. A wonderful celebration was had and will never forget that day.

My Thirties

A few more years went by and the summer of 2008, Kevin, myself and my inlaws decided to go for a 4th of July three hour boat cruise around Long Island and got to see the annual Jones Beach Fireworks show. It was definitely a fun night and also happened to be the last 4th of July before I would technically be a mom.

See the following year, I was over 9 months pregnant with Emma, so very uncomfortable and truly ready to have my baby already. Emma was born less then 2 weeks later on July 17, 2009.

I spent the next 4th of July chasing after a toddler and being 5 months pregnant.

These last few years haven’t been anything really memorable, but have spent it with my husband and kids (who have been in bed before the real fireworks have occurred).

Hoping this year that my kids will make it until the fireworks and actually celebrate a bit more then we did these past few years, since the girls are getting a bit older now.  Also, may get to meet up with one of my favorite bloggy friend Kera from Nugget on a Budget, husband and beautiful little girl.  Can’t wait now!!

Time will tell and wish us luck.

    Don't you love dressing little girls for the 4th of July? Adorable pics, as usual. And the idea of spending the 4th BBQing in the Hamptons (in my 20s and without kids, of course…) sounds heavenly! Good luck this year!

      Oh thanks for that and seriously your pics (which I forgot to say) were amazing. I wish I had pics of myself from way back when on the 4th of July and those pics of Izzy, too adorable for words. And the Hamptons were definitely fun, but god knows I would never be able to keep up anymore, lol!!

    seeing someone get hurt would freak me out too babe. on July 8th, how beautiful for a wedding, that was my original due date for Anthony…for some reason it still is such an important date for me!

    I can't imagine having to chase after a toddler, pregnant in that heat, I give you BIG KUDOS babe.

    How fun to take a trip down memory lane via the 4th of July!! 🙂
    I think my favorite 4th memory was in 1976. I was 8 years old and it was the bicentennial. I lived in St. Louis. My dad hates getting out it big crowds for things, but we went downtown and watched the big firework show at The Arch. I just remember it was the coolest thing ever…and I got to stay up late. It doesn't get better than that!! –Lisa

      Totally doesn't get better then that Lisa and I always heard all about the big bicentennial celebrations, but I missed it by a year having been born in 1977. But sounded like so much fun and thank you for sharing your memories with me today!! 🙂

    Same for me…we always did the same thing for 4th of July growing up, going to my grandparents' house for a BBQ and to swim in the pool all day/evening and then either watching the local fireworks from there {you could see them pretty well} or going to the mall to watch the fireworks. Those are actually my best memories though! I'm going to link up later on today hopefully! SO excited to get to see you in less than a week, too! xoxo

    So glad it was sunny on your wedding day! I have NO idea what I am doing this year. Last year I was on Martha's Vineyard and saw the parade and fireworks on the 4th.

    Hi Janine! a lovely post, I enjoyed it a lot! But I must tell you I won't be linking up this tme. As you can imagine, I don't get to celebrate 4th July. I was planning to change it round and write about the Chile eqivalent, but I'm just too tired. We have had a really bad storm here, no light, no water, trees falling, roads dangerous, and so on. The weather has pulled me down somewhat. I'm not my usual chirpy self at all! But I'll be back for the next one! So have a really good festivity this time round! See you!

    Wow. You have a packed July! Our busy time is December-February. I keep telling my husband if we have another kid it has to be in a month where we have nothing going on to save us some money and sanity!

    Someday I'll get the nerve to join in the FTSF:). Loved hearing your fourth memories…sounds very similar to mine. One year stands out because Maddy was born on July 1…and when I was in labor with her I looked out the HUGE window my my bed and there was a gorgeous fireworks display that went on for about an hour. What a great celebration and perfect timing! Lol lol

    You're right on usually being in bed before the fireworks even hit. If we're out, the kids get cranky long before they hit. If we're home, they want to go to sleep early, for a change. Thanks for hosting and Happy Fourth of July.

    They are so cute in their outfits. I don't have any memories of July 4 that really stand out… But my favorites have been since having kids because I can share the experience with them. My first has always loved fireworks, I hope my second does too!

      Glad you are remembering more Kate after reading these posts today. I wish I could remember more from when I was a kid, but we truly do so much of the same with barbecues and fireworks that the years blend to together a bit if that makes sense.

    Honestly I don't even remember mine from when I was a kid. I would say the last few years we have done parties with the same friends and we always all have a good time. The kids love watching the fireworks and now that they are older, they can help with them too. That makes me extremely nervous but the dads are pretty cautious. I guess its better that they learn how to do things the right way now versus doing something stupid with their friends later.

    It's interesting how certain months turn out to be more meaningful and significant in your life. It sounds like July is one like that for you. For me it's May and August which mark the births of my kids but also their daddy's birthday and our wedding anniversary date. That was a fun trip down memory lane. I will miss you next week!
