Fishing for Nice Compliments & Blushing, Too!

Filed Under: BLOG, FTSF Tagged With: book writing, Children, Compliments, husband, Work

Welcome back to Finish The Sentence Friday Blog Hop (FTSF).  We give you a sentence and you finish it (however long or short you’d like).  Please feel free to link up and follow any or all of our hostesses, which are below.

STEPHANIE
KRISTI

And please also welcome and show some love to our very special co-host, Sarah from Left Brained Buddha.

And now for this week’s sentence to finish:  “The nicest thing anyone ever did for me was…“

Next week’s sentence to finish: OFF FOR MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND!!

The nicest thing anyone ever did for me was….

I have been blessed over the course of my 36 plus years (yes I will be 37 in a mere few weeks..Yay my birthday is on June 10th!), to have had more then a few nice things done for me (I am sure I have forgotten a few still).

Unfortunately, I have had some not so nice things done to me, too.

But, the good has outweighed the bad, plus I try my best to not dwell on the negative, because so not worth it to me.

Yet, as nice things do go, I would say the nicest (still hard to narrow it down) are the kind words and compliments I have gotten over the years.

Still after all these years, when someone does bestow a compliment on me, I can’t help blush a bit and even stammer over my words trying to find the right words to reply to words such as this.

Some Examples of Compliments in Recent Years Now:

  • My Physical Appearance – I have always been petite and thin for my height, but still can’t always get the right words out when someone tells me that they approve of my physical appearance.
Me at almost 37!

Me at almost 37!

  • Having a Handsome Husband – Trust me I am probably a bit prejudice and know he is all that and bag of chips. I still pinch myself sometimes to make he is real and u didn’t dream getting this lucky with him in the looks department and that he is smart, as well as has a wonderful sense of humor. And no, Kevin I am not fishing for anything with this compliment to you!
Kevin - All the Luck I Ever Needed!

Kevin – All the Luck I Ever Needed!

  • Being a Mom to Two Adorable Little Girls – I never in a million years (even as much as they drive me crazy quite often) imagined I would get to be the mother to not just one, but two amazing little girls. And hear it quite often and still get a bit overwhelmed with how to respond to this.
My Girls Hamming It Up Princess Style!

  • Being Educated, As Well As Running a Successful Business – I was always pretty much the top in most if not all my classes. Things pretty much came easy to me in the studying/school department. I took they for granted and getting and keeping a job. Never did I think when going to become a teacher that I would end up working form home blogging and even running, J9 Designs and it truly being this rewarding daily for me. When I do get compliments on my skills and talents, I also still can’t believe how far I have come on levels with this in life. I also, never imagined being a published author in a successful anthology, but still somehow I am and amazed but this so much, too.

Getting to Be a Published Author – Me and The Mother of All Meltdowns

In the end, I know I did work hard for much of what I got. I am proud of it, but I truly still don’t want to come off as though I am greedy about it nor do I want to seem conceded one but either. So, I truly hope this article didn’t come off in the light, because most of what I wrote and shared here is mostly my own deep thoughts that I have pondered and still feel with all the hard work, I guess I just had some luck, too somewhere to get here to where I am now.

Now that I shared about the nicest thing ever done to me, please share with us today yours.

Busy day tomorrow so I'll do this tonight while my eyes are still open. The nicest thing anyone did for me….love me when I couldn't love myself. The rest, as they say, is history.

Your family is beautiful as are you and your hot body hubba hubba (not creepy just nice). It's SO hard to take compliments and to feel like we deserve the wonderful things in life. I love that you have your handsome husband, blessed life, and beautiful girls, with the hardships and the hardwon sucesses – very deserved.

I love that you admit all the wonderful things about yourself. I often think that we are a weird culture — sometimes preferring self-deprecation over self-praise, which seems like boasting. But bravo to you for keeping your petite figure even after 2 kids, having a hubby who isn't unfortunate (LOL), having 2 adorable well-behaved girls, being published, and having your own business. Definitely great accomplishments with many more to come! As for me, there are so many nice things but I guess the one that stands out the most, and probably changed my life, is the hospitality of my Taiwanese coworkers when I moved there from the US for 2 yrs. All alone, no family near, they treated me like family. They made sure I knew how to take the bus, had a place to stay, and things to do on the weekends.

Thankful though you were able to and that your co-workers were indeed so wonderful and supportive to you.

  16. kellylmckenzie says

Know just what you mean Janine. It's a fine line between being gracious and coming across as conceited. At least we think about that though. Some don't. Maybe that's the difference? The fact that we are worried about being too big for our boots makes us not? I don't know. Great post – with lovely photos!

    • Janine Huldie says

      May 16, 2014 at 10:05 am

Thanks Kelly and I didn't want this to come across at all conceited, but just something I observed, I get tons of nice comments daily and do believe they are sincere. Just so hard to feel like if I answer them a certain way that I don't come off as bragging or bolstering myself. Believe me I am not and just could never, because I am outgoing, but deep down a bit insecure at times, too (aren't we all deep down).

  17. Kerith Stull says

    May 16, 2014 at 8:55 am

Accepting a compliment graciously is a difficult thing indeed. Why don't parents do a better job of teaching that?? Sure, they teach kids to say "thank you" and all. But, I think they need to teach kid how to truly soak in a compliment. Ya know what I mean? From one blusher to another… try beaming next time! 🙂

Total baby steps and couldn't agree with you more Jen. And hope you did have a great weekend. Next weekend, I will be in and out will it being Memorial Day Weekend, so I probably will miss a bit myself, too.

What you shared are all things you accomplished through hard work and a little bit of luck! Very proud of all your achievements and the good life you and Kevin have built for Emma and Lily. Only more good things always. Love…….xxoo
