Milestones are hit practically every month with infant babies. And my girls were no exception to the rule. A few of these milestones were my favorites. One such one was when they learned to smile, because nothing was sweeter or more endearing to my heart than seeing my kids smile those first few few times with their cute little baby smiles.
In this above photo, Emma was in the supported sitting phase and smiling a mile wide while I was holding her little hands. This was in January of 2010 and she was just about 6 months old here. For Emma, who was a colicky, unhappy baby for the first few months of her life that smile was truly music to my ears, as well as magic to my eyes and I will never forget how happy I honestly was when she started to smile more and more like times like this above picture. Trust me, I waited a long time for these smiles.
And then there was my Lily. This picture was also taken in January, but of the following year in 2011. Lily wasn’t even three months old and smiling already. She was my happy baby by all intents and purposes. I have to admit I wasn’t used to this, because Emma unfortunately with colic wasn’t happy for the first 2 months of her life. So, to have Lily smiling for the first time at 6 weeks old was truly a new one for me. And probably why I just couldn’t help, but snap her doing it every chance I could get.
I honestly try not comparing my kids, but I am their mother and just can’t help, but take note of the differences in my two kids. Believe me when I tell you I love both my kids with all my heart, but they are two different little people and as their mother I am aware and try my best to love them for they are and not when they actually accomplished something like a milestone, but again as their mother (and writer, too) I wrote everything down when it happened so I wouldn’t forget and be able to share with them when they got older and asked me.
And even know I love when they smile for me and do it so freely with their whole faces!! So, I couldn’t resist including this in Flashback Wednesdays and share with you. Hope you enjoyed and for more Wordless Wednesday posts, please feel free to visit Cyndi’s blog, Pictimilitude.

Those first smile photos are the best! And like your girls, my 3 boys could not be more different from one another. That's what makes this whole parenting gig fun!
Janine Huldie says
Totally true and definitely has kept me on my toes literally, lol!!
Janine Huldie says
Lol, Lily even now has the best sense of humor. This kid seriously is always smiling and laughing (when she isn't screaming or whining, lol!!).
Janine Huldie says
Thanks Stephanie and so true, because I honestly didn't do anything differently. So totally was nature over nurture on this one!!
Diana Chastain says
Beautiful. The pictures make my uterus ache. HaHa. I can not wait until Hubby and I can try again. I don't know if you know this or not, but I am on a weightloss journey so I don't have the blood pressure issues I had with Sweet Pea and financially we want to have a little more in savings before we try again as well. You are so blessed. And I Know you already knew that. 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Thanks so very much Diana and I knew you were on the weight loss journey, but not necessarily why and hope that you can totally get to where you need to be with your blood pressure issues to try again. I know all too well about trying to conceive and wanting a baby so very badly and was so there when we were trying with Emma. If I hadn't been high risk with Lily, was younger and better financially maybe we might had gone for one more, but I do know I am blessed and will not do anything to take that for granted. So, I am truly happy with my two girls and just thankful that they are healthy and perfect 🙂 🙂

It's unreal who different they can be right from the beginning. You can see the difference in their pictures too. Both adorable, but also such individuals!
Janine Huldie says
I know Rachel and you are totally right. They have been their own little persons right from the get go!! 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Lol, Richard. Too funny and he actually asked me tonight where was his smiling picture, lol!! YEs, he was joking, but your comment was too timely I suppose. And, yes guilty as charged, because I am totally a proud mom. Thanks 🙂

I don't have kids, but I have a niece who is the love of my life. I realize it isn't the same as having your own kid, but when she smiles I swear I actually feel a pull at my heart. Thanks for sharing.
Janine Huldie says
Thanks Lisa and I too have a niece and she is around 8 years old. I helped to raise her before I had my girls and know exactly what you mean!! 🙂
Janine Huldie says
My pleasure and thank you Melanie for your kind words!! 🙂
Rosey says
It's hard not to compare the kids, I do it sometimes too, but with respect for each of them being an individual, just like you noted. The pics are great. 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Rosey, so true and good to know it is just me. And thanks a ton as always!! 🙂
Xmasdolly says
Why do all babies almost look alike because yours looks just like my little girl which both are (mine were) adorable. My baby is grown and gave me grandbabies. You have that to look forward too. Such happiness we have as mothers and grandmothers too! By the way tried to subscribe to you email, and I got this Unable to connect
Janine Huldie says
Oh so sorry, Xmasdolly. My server has been acting up. HostMonster is aware and actively trying to fix this matter and hope if you try again it will work. Please let me know and thank you for wanting to subscribe. You are right though many babies do look alike and my girls had some pictures where my husband actually has asked me who was who!! 🙂
Kera says
I love baby smiles! Too precious. In that baby picture, Emma looks exactly like how she looks now {except with more hair of course!} but Lily looks different. It's so funny how babies either stay looking the same as they grow or they change. I think Sofia looks a lot different now than when she was a newborn…we'll see how she ends up looking when she's 3 or 4 🙂
Janine Huldie says
It is funny and am with you. Lily definitely changed, even her hair color, which went from brown to blonde (fell out and cam back in blonde) and her very blue eyes turned greenish/brown. Go figure!! And Emma still has the same little face just with hair. Totally agree with you. Thanks Kera!! 🙂
