I have been waiting patiently to find out what this month’s Old School Blogging challenge from Elaine from Miss Elaine-ous and Katie from Sluiter Nation.
Well, the wait was over on Friday morning, when I opened up my good friend Heather’s blog post from The Destiny Manifest.
I knew she would be tagging me, because she told me she was and yes I was excited and couldn’t wait to find out what I would be challenged to share.
Well, the wait was indeed over. Are you as excited to find out as I was?
From the title, you had to have guessed it had something to do with my refrigerator.
You got it, I had to share pictures of my refrigerator and what I have on it.
A little side note, many that know me know that Kevin and I moved into my parents mother-daughter hi-ranch during our second year of marriage. We were living in a small apartment and over paying for rent. My parents graciously took us in so we could save all our money to buy our home (hopefully very soon now).
Before we moved in this was the home that I moved into at the onset of high school. I was a freshman in high school and my parents took the upstairs of this home and my grandparents lived downstairs (in my now part of the house).
My grandfather passed away in 1999 and my grandmother fell breaking her hip in the fall of 2003. My mom helped her for a few years once she came home from the hospital and it was getting harder and harder for my mom to clean both the upstairs and downstairs of the house. And the part of the house that was my grandmother’s was just too big for her. So, it was decided that my grandmother would move upstairs (my parents had the extra bedroom from when I got married) and Kevin and I would take the downstairs of the house to make our own.
So this refrigerator that I have photographed was indeed my grandparents and now is ours. But the thing is I put everything that can be imagined on our fridge. There are not only magnets, but pictures and so much more. At Christmas time, I drive Kevin crazy, because I put all the photo Christmas cards up on the fridge. He literally counts down the days that I take them down. But since it isn’t Christmas time those are not up there, but still be forewarned it is quite a sight even at this time of the year.
And the bottom of the fridge has some of the girls favorite magnets. It should also have the LeapFrog Letters Magnet gadget that teaches the letter when put into it with songs and such. But god help me, when I went to go take a picture today it was no where in sight. I am sure it is in with some of my girls toys in their toy box, but hell if I know where they actually did put it!
So without further ado, here is the top and bottom of our refrigerator.
So left to right and top to bottom:
1. This is Emma’s Birth Announcement back from July 2009 held up by a CapTree Magnet from back int he day that my parents bought for my grandmother!
2. Our nephew’s baseball card photo from this last year.
3. Emma sitting on Santa’s lap at school last year held up by Hershey Magnets we brought back for my grandparents from our family trip years back to Hershey Park.
4. A Hawaii magnet that again my parents brought back for my grandmother back in the early 1990s when they went there after my dad won a business trip. The magnet is supposed to tell the temperature in the house, but stopped working many moons ago!
5. This is Lily’s birth announcement from November 2010.
6. Our Christmas Card from last year.
7. Emma’s retake school picture. For those who missed this story, click here.
8. A picture of my cousin’s little boy from his last birthday.
9. Emma’s Mother’s Day Picture Gift to Me!!
10. Emma’s Pre-School Class Picture from last year held up by a Wild West City (NJ) magnet that was again gifted to my grandparents back in the day.
11. My niece’s school picture from last year held up by a little magnet picture of Emma made by a friend of my brother’s. Also underneath her picture is a magnet made for me back when I was a kid hand painted with a baseball and bat for my favorite sport and team The Mets!!
12. One of two birthday party invitations the girls received for parties on the same day!
13. Emma’s Handprint Father’s Day gift for Kevin!
14. Emma’s picture for sports day last year at school.
15. Our Christmas Family Photo from this past year.
16. Appointment cards for Emma’s 4 year old checkup and my chiropractor (both past, but there for the phone numbers if need be) that are held up by a Hersey Kiss magnet from the same family Hersey Trip from youth discussed earlier.
17. Emma’s Peace Day necklace she made last year at school.
18. The second birthday invitation for another birthday party the girls have on the same day as #12.
19. Oil change coupon for a local place we were thinking of trying that has 10 minute express appointments.
20. A magnet we brought back from our honeymoon in the Bahamas!
I did not number this, because these are all just magnets that the girls love and play with. Some are ones from my grandmother again and others are theirs, such as Mickey and Minnie Mouse and the Letter A that belongs to that LeapFrog Letter Device I mentioned that is among the missing along with the rest of the alphabet.
Hey only in my house!
But now for the real fun part, who I am tagging!!
I am tagging Tamara and Karen!!

Your fridge is SO NEAT! I feel like everything on my fridge is haphazard and barely hanging on! Love yours! What a fun theme! :)-Ashley

Ashely, I am usually good with being neat on the outside, but the inside if it were up to me would look like a disaster. Thank god for Kevin, who organizes all the food when I we go grocery shopping on the inside, lol!! π
NuggetOnABudget says
This is such a fun prompt!! I love that your fridge has a ton of photos and mementos on it that mean something to you and your family ~ exactly how it should be π Maybe I'll play along since I didn't have a post scheduled for today. Happy Hump Day lol! xoxo
My recent post it's okay #4.
Janine Huldie says
Yay totally play along if you can. I didn't tag you when I first wrote this one up, because I thought you may have had the baby and would be too busy but would love you to play along now!! And Happy Hump Day right back at you, Kera!!! π xoxo!!

Thanks so much Lizzi and can honestly say I do have a wonderful family and just so thankful for that. And was happy to share my fridge (finally) with all of Emma's creations and photos of all in our wonderful family, too!! π

I love collaged and interesting fridges! ours is stainless steel so it only has one side that magnets stick to. well, I guess 2, but one side doesn't have anything on it! I better get on that. π I keep all the state magnets I collect downstairs on our other fridge too.

I know someday I will most likely have stainless and then will be sad when I can't hang as much from it, but I am totally not going down without a fight as you can see!! π

My husband was so excited when we got our stainless steel fridge and I couldn't put anything on it!

I think my husband will be equally as happy when this happens someday in the future!!

If you ever want to learn about the average American family, go look at their fridge…there is usually the family history just waiting to be discovered…..love your fridge and the pictures on it. Ours is a bit bare in comparison. π Have a great day Janine!
Janine Huldie says
Bill, I wouldn't doubt it and seriously judging from mine alone there is such rich family history laid out from top to bottom and side to side, too! Thank you and wishing you a wonderful day now, too!! π
Rosey says
We had two Leap Frog toys on the 'fridge for the longest time! Now we have just pictures the kids (yeah, I even have one the teen drew over the summer) on there…held up by magnets.
Completely unrelated, though this post was fun π , I clicked on your name at my blog today to get here (instead of just typing in the URL) and it got me to your profile page. Did you get your entire Masters in 3 years?!!??!? If so, that rocks. If not, you still rock, lol,
Happy Wednesday.

I love that you clicked on my name in your blog post and I have done that sometimes when I am being quick and want to read someone's new post, too. I love learning about others fridges and do agree this was totally a fun post. And I actually got my Master's in 1 1/2 years and just wish I would have gotten more work from it, but still proud to have. And you my friend rock, too!! Happy Wednesday right back at you!! π
Rosey says
GAH!!! Bowing in respect, lol!!! I got my Masters in a little over a year and so did my daughter-in-law, but we both had our Bachelors already. My two oldest sons and husband are in college right now (and I'm working on my dissertation) so we're a college-loving family, lol. The oldest is in the military too, so he's really busy!! π
Now if we all find ways to utilize our education properly when we're done… knocking on wood, crossing fingers. π
My recent post The Christopher Chronicles (Review & Giveaway- 2 winners!).
Janine Huldie says
Oh thank you Rosey. I honestly wish that I would have been able to find a teaching job with that education, but unfortunately with the economy right now it just wasn't to be. We too are a college loving family ( I have the one master's degree and my husband actually has 2 master's degrees). Truly wishing your husband and son only the best when they are done!! π
realhousewife says
Really fun post Janine…thank goodness magnets won't stick to the front of my fridge:). The front is stainless and the sides are metal so I do have a few of my FAV pictures of the girls and a couple magnets there. The other side is up against the wall. My favorite magnet is a Mary Englebirght and it is captioned "Snap Out of It!" It's a jolt of a reminder when I'm cooking sometimes:) haha
Janine Huldie says
Oh I love the sound of that magnet Kelly and think it sounds quite perfect to me!!! Thanks π
Karen says
SQUEEEEEEEEEE That's me! LOLOLOL
Okay, I love seeing a fridge covered with momentos…it shows off a family, love, pride, and joy. So excited. In our condo I also covered the fridge with xmas card photos…now it's too small so we cover our basement door with cards.

This is a fun post! I might tag myself π I love using my fridge as a bulletin board. I like the look of stainless steel but don't like how they don't have magnetic fronts!
My recent post So what…

I know Katie love being able to hang stuff on the fridge, but do love the stainless look, too. Definitely will have debate on my hands when I have to replace someday!!

I love your fridge! Our fridge was so full of special magnets, birth announcements, artwork etc. that I started filling up our front door too. I was so happy when I realized it was a magnetic door, hahah!

Love all the memories, Janine! I have to say that your fridge is much more organized than ours. Ours seems to have layers on top of layers, like an archeological dig!
My recent post Mommy Blinders?
Janine Huldie says
Oh thanks so much Rachel. Like I said I think a bit earlier here, the outside I have no problem keeping organized, but the inside without Kevin I am a disaster waiting to happen, lol!! Beat you we could have a archeological dig inside if he didn't do his magic of organizing that for me!!
tiffanigoff says
Luckily I didn't get tagged because I have absolutely NOTHING on the outside of my fridge. Yours is so much for fun to look at.

Lol, well that was last week and to be honest I cleaned off some of the fridge to make room for the kids stuff when they start pre-school right now. So, shh–our secret!! π
Itzybellababy says
I love your fridge art! Most of ours is on top for the moment. Toddlers love to chew on magnets it seems, and tear paper, so all of ours have to be out of reach for the moment.
We have tons of family pix, and my certificates for learning how to ice skate.. lol. I was pretty proud. I worked my butt off for them.( literally, it was so firm for a time.. )
Thanks for sharing!

Oh I remember all too well the toddler stage and everything in the mouth. It does pass, but seems like forever and a day when you are going through it. And that is truly awesome about the ice skating certificates. You should definitely be proud of that. Thank you for stopping by here and so my pleasure in sharing!! π

I love the story behind your house and your fridge. So much history! The only thing missing from your fridge is a Tamara Camera original photo!
Janine Huldie says
If you ever want to do a Tamara Camera Original photo for me, I am totally up for it and would display in proudly on my fridge and pretty much shout it from the rooftops!! Seriously, I would be honored and then some!!! π
Ruchira says
Actually Janine, even my fridge has many memories that I like to keep it as is π
It is a gentle reminder and show our gratitude thus, hardly clean it but definitely align it each month π
Voted for ya!

I am pretty much the same way Ruchira and update every month or so, but some things like the girls' birth announcements, I can't help, but keep on their, because they truly make me smile!! And thank you as always!! π
