Welcome back to Finish The Sentence Friday Blog Hop (FTSF). We give you a sentence and you finish it (however long or short you’d like). Please feel free to link up and follow any or all of our hostesses, which are below.
Plus, please be so kind to welcome this week’s guest co-host: Kenya from Here’s The Thing. We are truly so excited to have her join us this week as a co-host!
And now for this week’s sentence to finish: “A funny thing happened on the way to…“
Next week’s sentence to finish: “My best dream ever was…”
A funny thing happened on the way to..
Writing this article.
I actually had written the majority of it, while at the chiropractor’s and was putting the finishing touches up while I was doing the stationary bike.
My girls were in need of using the bathroom. Most times at three and four years old, they are capable of going by themselves, but of course the one time I do need them to indeed do this, while I finish my work all hell breaks loose.
I was putting down my iPad to go tend to Emma who was crying about needing my help and of course I hit the delete button on the iPad note that I had typed my post in. I was trying to hit send to my inbox, but instead deleted.
So not funny haha in the moment, but definitely ironic and I was fuming from this. And take it from a mom, who knows her meltdown’s well from being a contributor to this book (which by the way is on sale for Valentine’s Day for only 99 cents!), I felt one coming on any minute now.
When I finished tending to Emma, I began to check online how to recover a deleted note from my iPad and even downloaded a program to do just that on my MacBook to connect to my iPad to indeed recover the note I deleted.
Recover Lost iPad Notes ProgramThe process took very little time for my iPad, but still again didn’t retrieve the deleted note.
So next, I tried to recover it from my iPhone, because the note was in the iCloud.
That took forever, because I have the iPhone 4, which is absolutely a piece of crap in plain English. I have been waiting to upgrade to a newer iPhone, but heard the 5S is not that much different, so even though I can upgrade I choose not to until the next version is released. But then I suffer with it running very slow and even making a recovery program quit unexpectedly (I know now I am just bordering on annoying here or could hear Kevin say this at the very least)
Anyway, the note is gone and my whole post for today is gone.
What was I going to share for this (in case you were wondering)?
Well, I was going to tell you all about the funny thing that happened when I was on my way home with my girls from pre-school the other day.
Actually anytime I am in the car with my girls is usually when funny things seem to happen to me.
Try for starters that my youngest child is the comedian in the family and usually can make me laugh no matter what she does.
Most of the times it happens while she is sitting in the back seat of my car.
This day in particular we were knee deep in the middle of the polar vortex. Lily starts to say, “I need my ‘babing’ (bathing) suit mommy.”
I turn and of course tell her that it is freezing out and way too cold for her bathing suit. She then turns and says firmly, “No, mommy I do!”
We go back and forth on this until, she giggles and says, “Laugh, mommy it was meant to be funny!”
She got me and totally was trying to all along on this.
As if this wasn’t enough for her, she then turns her attention to Emma and somehow baits Emma into asking Lily to be even more funny then she just was.
Lily turns to Emma and tells her she is done being funny and will be funny again later or maybe tomorrow for her!
This infuriates Emma and now she is telling Lily emphatically that she needs to be funny for her.
They go round and round on this with Emma yelling at Lily, “Yes, you need to be funny” and Lily arguing back, “No, I don’t!”
I know logically I should probably try to intervene, but by this point I am crying from laughing so hard at these two little princesses arguing as though they are two little ladies.
Honestly I was reminded of my grandmother and her younger sister (who actually had almost the same age difference between the two). So, because of this I was now in hysterics and just couldn’t help but laugh that much harder.
I finally make it home and Lily looks at me with a serious face saying, “I love you Mommy and Emma, too, but I am tired of being funny now, maybe later.”
So that was the end of funny for Lily (at least for that afternoon)!
Now that I have shared here, please tell me about something funny that happened to you, too!

Woohoo, I linked up! It's been a while, but glad to be joining the blog hop today! As for your girls, sounds like you have two budding comedians on your hands! 🙂
Janine Huldie says
I was so happy to see your blog on the list tonight and totally put a smile on my face. Have missed you joining us. And my girls are seriously too funny sometimes and great backseat entertainment, too 🙂
spiritedlife says
Oh, goodness Janine! I'm ALMOST done with the Mother of all Meltdowns! Like, 89% done according to my Kindle. I'm trying to read a book a month, and this will be the first I completed in a long time. Fingers crossed I get it done tomorrow.
Anyway, been there done that! I don't have an iPhone, but I now do most of my work in Google Drive because deleting is so complicated, I have yet to "accidentally" (or purposely for that matter) delete anything.
And yes, she IS adorable!
Janine Huldie says
I love that you are reading The Mother of All Meltdowns first and glad it isn't just me. I did do one more post in notes, but was careful to e-mail it half way through and then fully when I did finish it this time. And thank you 🙂
Kelly L McKenzie says
You're right – that little poppet in the carseat would have me giggling too. So cute.
My son was like that – on the dreariest, wettest, most tedious of drives he'd pipe up "Did you remember to slap on sunscreen Mom?" Always = well usually – put me in a better mood.
What treat is she carrying? From here it looks like sprinkled frozen yogurt but I bet it's even yummier!
Janine Huldie says
Kelly, I love that you can relate to having a comedian in the backseat, too. And she was carrying her sunglass case in the car, which she calls her "pocketbook"! 🙂
Kristi Campbell says
Dangit not first. HAHAH to the swimsuit thing. I'm sure you remember me having a meltdown (with my son) last week when he wanted the hose outside!! ALSO ugh to the deleting thing. I never start typing until the last minute (for real, which is so dumb) but I've lost so many posts and ideas for them by not saving and exiting!
Janine Huldie says
Krisit, thank you for saying that and seriously so glad it isn't just me. seriously, I felt like such a moron that I did that. And I do remember that story with Tucker and the hose. Seems are kids tend to bring out the best (or the worst) in us at times. At least e are in good company 🙂
Kenya G. Johnson says
That was cute! You did good re-telling what you deleted. To me it doesn't come out as good the second time around but now I am realizing no one would know that but me 😉
And there is a BIG difference between iPhone 4 and 5. Not much of a difference between 4S and 5. But at this point you might as well wait 😉
Janine Huldie says
Thanks Kenya, trust me I tried, but I was so annoyed at myself that I did delete that whole post. And at this point I am waiting it on the phone. Kevin told me the next version he heard the other day will have a larger screen like the Galaxy, so might as well wait for that now 🙂
Kate Hall says
I deleted one of my posts once 30 minutes before we were supposed to go live with FTSF. It was a recipe. The post was probably better because I deleted it. Ha! I liked that Lily was done being funny. That made me laugh.
Janine Huldie says
I totally remember that Kate now that you mention it and you seriously just made me feel better being reminded that I am not the only one to do that for a FTSF post. And I have to say I think this one turned out better because of me actually deleting the first one, too! And glad Lily made you laugh here, because she has that same effect one me, too 🙂
lrconsiderer says
Ohhh Funny Lily's so sweet 🙂 And I love that you inadvertently created the story for your post while trying to post it 😀
Janine Huldie says
Lizzi, Lily is a riot. Seriously this kid is such a throwback to my great-aunt. Nothing gets by her and she is always ready to crack a joke. And I know I do like how this post turned out, but at first I thought I was screwed deleting it and all. Guess all is well that ends well here 🙂
massholemommy says
Hahaha, your girls are so cute and funny. I just love them!!
Janine Huldie says
Awe, thanks so much Robin!! 🙂
jasteck says
Your daughters are so cute, and funny. I love that Lily recognizes the extremes of cold and swimsuits. That's priceless!
Janine Huldie says
Oh thanks so much and totally priceless that conversation I had with Lily!! 🙂
Rosey says
That's funny that you were laughing. Kids rock! How did we live without them??? 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Rosey, not sure how we lived without them, but definitely glad I don't (most times) now!! 🙂
Kerith Stull says
Ack!! I hate when that happens!!! But, wow, you really know how to multi-task! (Visiting from FFTS and sharing some comment love back at ya!)
Janine Huldie says
Thanks for visiting me back and god help me I just don't know how to stop, but still I love blogging so much and thank god for multi-tasking. Loving your comment love 🙂
ginnymarie says
My Emmy will do the same sort of thing, and then she gets mad when we don't realize it was a joke! She has a good sense of humor but delivers it with such a straight face that it hard to realize that she's being funny! 🙂
Janine Huldie says
I have to tell you I usually do know when it is a joke with Lily, but on that rare chance that I don't, she does get totally ticked off. And she too will try to do the straight face, but usually can't keep it for long 🙂
notinjersey says
aw they are so adorable!
Janine Huldie says
Awe, thanks Dara 🙂
The Dose of Reality says
I cannot tell you how many times I have tried to delete one word in my post while I'm working in the WordPress Dashboard, and I end up accidentally deleting an entire paragraph…and I can't get it back. Oh, I FEEL YOU!!!
I'm glad you muddled through because this is the cutest story!! I love that Lily is joking with you and then decided that funny time was over. Maybe again tomorrow! Bwahahaha. SO CUTE!!! –Lisa
Janine Huldie says
I hate losing all or even a part of what I have written. That said, Lisa on WordPress posts on the bottom post dashboard there is a little back type arrow that if you are writing in post view you can hit and will undo the last thing you did. That has saved me many times, but you would think I would learn in notepad now to back up my work! And thank you I seriously love Lily and her sense of humor and just glad I could still manage to retell the tale after I made that error and deleted it originally 🙂
Elena says
Hey Janinie! Thanks so much for hosting; what a fantastic idea for a hop especially for those bloggers that don't always know what to write about. The prompt really helped me out :o)
Happy Friday, and I hope you have an awesome weekend!

Janine Huldie says
Absolutely my pleasure and seriously again love that you joined us this week! Just glad out prompt helped you out and wish you a great weekend, too now!! 🙂
Karen says
OMG…they are just to cute…and the things they say are just beyond cute. I swear sometimes I delete it al by accident and then it is gone forever and I want to cry, LOL
Janine Huldie says
Thanks Karen and I have to say these two definitely keep me on my toes (mostly good though). And I have never truly deleted a whole post before (bits and pieces yes), but a whole post was new for me. I seriously was so upset, ticked off and on the verge of tears when it happened. Just glad I was able to pull it together and get the post finally done though 🙂
Billybuc says
With two young girls I would imagine there is no shortage of funny things happening. Me, I'm drawing a blank on this question, so I'll just wish you a Happy Friday.
Janine Huldie says
Definitely Bill and with two little girls I am constantly on my toes in a manner of speaking. Happy Friday again to you, too!! 🙂
fakingpictureperfect says
Deleting that post must have driven you crazy!! Cute little girl you have there. I love how she said she was tired of being funny. So cute!
Janine Huldie says
It totally did and thank you for your kind words about Lily, too 🙂
Kim Tobin says
I used to be a diehard iPhone girl until one day when I couldn't handle having to buy a new phone every year when a new version came out so I switched to Android and am glad I did!
Janine Huldie says
My brother says the same thing about his Android and definitely all giving me some food for thought!
Katia says
OK, I am backing out of what I said about children not coming with an instruction manual. They do, it's called Murphy's Law. Whenever they can make things a little more interesting for you they will. I am glad, though, that as a result we got a two for one deal here with your post!
Janine Huldie says
it's is totally Murphy's Law Seriously never fails when I have to do something or be somewhere my kids always do something to make me late or make me just plain crazy. I love them, but still never fails. And you and me both are happy that I got this post pulled together after that episode!! 🙂
realhousewife says
I've deleted posts before! Ugh! Lost entire articles and had to start over…no funny!
The girls are hilarious! I always liked car rides with my girls because they're trapped and they can't leave and they have to pay attention! Lol
I have iPhone 4 too and I'm able to upgrade per my contract but I'm waiting for something better than the iPhone 5…one of the kids has it and it's not that great.
Janine Huldie says
Not funny at all and I must admit that I was so upset after that one. And I know the car rides with my girls are truly priceless. Also, thank you for confirming about iPhone 5, because I keep hearing, but nice to know I am not off the mar with waiting 🙂
stephsprenger says
Oh, so frustrating! My problem lately is hitting "publish" instead of "save." That's always embarrassing! 😉 And I love it when my kids are genuinely funny- so adorable!
Janine Huldie says
Oh I have done that too and then had to unpublished as quick a possible, too. And I am with you on the kids definitely being pretty cute and adorable, too 🙂
godansker says
I absolutely love when kids learn that they can make people laugh and try. My 4 1/2 yo has been doing that, too, and it makes me laugh just to watch the process. What a sweet, wonderful story! (PS- I delete stuff accidentally all the time. It is part of having fat finger syndrome these days. It sucks.)
Janine Huldie says
Thanks Alison and really is so nice to know it isn't just me on both counts. The funny kids part, I can love to pieces, but the deleting posts now so much!! 🙂
rynolexson says
Gotta love little people fights, so cute!! I can imagine the car is always full of fun…after all, you are completely stuck!
Ps: i have all apple products that supposedly are equipped with the "Cloud" and i have yet to figure out how to access anything in this holy "cloud". Apple-smapple, it's all crap.
Janine Huldie says
We are truly stuck, but then again there is never a dull moment! And thank you for saying that about the cloud, because seriously I own a MacBook, iPad and an iPhone and still don't get it all either!! 🙂

How adorable! What is it about Lilys that makes them so over-dramatic? Hope your poor little one managed to recover from the strains of being funny 🙂 Have a great weekend, Janine!
Janine Huldie says
I totally think it is a Lily thing and sounds like our Lily’s would get along famously! And wishing you a great weekend, too 🙂
tamaralikecamera says
Ugh! The deleted note. That happened to me once and I nearly sobbed. Of course you wind up with something even better and unexpected, but still!
Scarlet calls her bathing suit her "babing suit."
I want to hang out with Lily and have some rainbow sprinkles!
Janine Huldie says
Tamara, you are so right. I think this came out even better, but when I deleted it I pretty much did want to cry and was so upset. Both my girls say babying suit and totally cracks me up. And I wang to hang and with both you and Scarlet, so come join our rainbow sprinkle party 🙂 🙂
day-with-kt.com says
Your girls are so cute and that little car scene is hilarious!! It always makes me laugh at the funny things that siblings start a little spat about!!!
Bummer about the lost post – I tend to do all of my posts directly into my site – I thought about trying to use my iPad but it is so much easier on my MacBook!!!
Janine Huldie says
Awe, thanks Kim. And I usually do write on my MacBook, too but have been using my iPad more, too and I guess this taught me to back up my work before I do anything now.
Nellie says
She is toooooo cute for words!! I don't know how you held it together I would have been crying. These kids are something else!!
Janine Huldie says
These kids are totally something else and I honestly was laughing so hard I was crying. So, I totally didn’t keep it together 🙂
Amanda Love says
Lily surely is the comedienne in the family. You were supposed to laugh Janine, how could you not see the humor in it. 🙂 I couldn't think of any funny thing that happened to me so I can't even finish the sentence.
Janine Huldie says
I know what was I thinking Amanda and Lily seriously is our lovable, comedian for sure! And no worries, this came to me, but at first I wasn't sure how I would finish the sentence either 🙂
gigigirl says
Sorry you lost your notes….but you made it work after all! Auntie Anne and I got a big charge from Lily's bathing suit joke….and then Lily and Emma channeling Adele and Lucy! That helps get through the meltdowns I would say! Happy Weekend! xxoo
Janine Huldie says
Aunt Gloria, I was hoping you both would read this, because I know you both would get my point about Lucy and Adele. I swear these two channel them sometimes for sure. And Lily seriously is a riot. This kid doesn't miss a beat! Totally does help with the meltdowns and hope you are all having a great weekend, too. Love you xoxo 🙂
dishofdailylife says
How can you not smile with that cuteness?!!
Janine Huldie says
Aww, thanks Michelle and I am prejudice on that smile so I totally agree 🙂
Sandy_Ramsey says
Okay, here it comes again but I can't not say it…your girls are the cutest! Don't you love listening to their conversations? I am still amazed at the things my kids come up with!
That does really stink about losing the entire post but you managed just fine!
Janine Huldie says
Thank you and just so glad that I was able to pull it together to do this post after originally deleting the first one. And I honestly love listening to my girls conversations and be a fly on the wall at times 🙂
Chris Carter says
Now first of all- I would have TOTALLY had a meltdown after losing what you had JUST wrote for a post!!! Bless your heart- there is NOTHING more frustrating!!! And then you sharing it was seriously a brilliant post in itself!! You could have stopped THERE!! Such a classic mom story really- kids interrupt something important, because they precariously need us yet for something we THOUGHT we were done with… and in the end, we lose what we had gained while having our moment without them.
Yeah. Been there done that!
And your car story is hilarious and precious at the very same time!!! SO adorable!!!
Janine Huldie says
Chris, thank you seriously from the bottom of my heart for not only understanding, but also being so kind. I really was so upset, but in the end it turned out for the best, because I learned a lesson and also challenged myself to work harder to share the story. And seriously nice to know I am not alone and in great company with you my friend, too 🙂
Brittnei Washington says
They are super duper cute. I think Lily is funny and I don't even live there lol. I forget the few things that she has said….I think one thing about someone older in your family and then the other was when you said that one of them was laughing at your husband when he was fake crying or something like that? She's adorable and I can only imagine from the stories you tell.
Janine Huldie says
Yup, she totally told called my husband out on his fake crying and she keeps us constantly on our toes with the funny stories and comments, too. I love sharing her here, because I never want to forget this time in her life and feel like at least I have it documented for us to definitely not forget 🙂
cgacad says
i’m so glad i read this. i was thinking of upgrading to the iphone 5 because i too have a piece of shit iphone 4…but i will just wait after hearing what you said. it literally pushes my buttons. i’m always stabbing at it to try to get it to do something instead of just stalling. argh.
Janine Huldie says
Thank you Catherine for saying that, because I thought I was the only one that had to stab at my keys to get them to work! Seriously getting on my last nerve daily now. So annoying!
Chris Carter says
Oh that Lilly is so STINKIN' CUTE!!! I can't tell you how many times I have lost a post- it is the most infuriating thing EVER!!!
(I swear I read this post a while ago- I didn't see my comment, so either I am not caffienated up enough yet to find it, or I read this post and got 'distracted' somehow- either way I love it! And I love YOU!)
Janine Huldie says
I love you too and thank you for reading and commenting again. By the way, I have done stuff like this more then not and swore I read something only to not find my own comment. Happy Sunday Chris and thanks again 🙂
