This past month, as most know Emma celebrated her 4th birthday party, this was the first year that I didn’t have to worry about creating and/or purchasing invitations. Years previous, I have bought her invites from Tiny Prints and Shutterfly, too. I love the personalization options, but sometimes the cost can be downright crazy. Well this time out, the gymnastics place that we held the party at supplied them. So, I was psyched to save a bit of money and use them. Only, they were pretty lame and cheesy to be quite honest and I had to mail them as postcards. Two of the cards that were addressed and were addressed correctly (I double checked when I called the parents and even looked at the addresses I had printed from the school) came back to me and was wondering if it was indeed, because they were postcards and not just regular invites in envelopes.
And then right after this, I was contacted by the owner and stay at home mom not unlike myself for a online birthday party invitation company. I was intrigued to say the least by the concept of her company (you will see why when she explains that her personalized invites are FREE!!) and how she indeed started her design based invitation online company again not unlike myself with my web design company (J9 Designs) in the convenience of her own home along with the support of her wonderful husband (again not unlike my own). So, to say I felt an affinity to her would be putting it mildly.
So now, I want to introduce you today to Tracie Smith Miller from Garb&Gander Prints and let her explain to you about her company and what is unique about it. Without further ado, i turn my blog over to Tracie.
A little about myself, I am a stay-at-home mom who has decided to strike out on her own (with the help of my loving husband) to start a business that incorporated my passion for graphic design. I have an architecture degree which, is what I did professionally until I was downsized in 2009. Long story short, I had always played around with graphic design but never took it seriously until I was forced to really think about what I wanted to do with my life! So here I am, almost four years later making a go of starting my own business!
Garb&Gander Prints is an online kids birthday invitation company. What makes Garb&Gander Prints special is we give our customers the ability to create a character in the likeness of their child to include on the invitation. We wanted to give customers a fun and easy way to create and customize their child’s birthday invitation. The idea is for parents to sit down with their kids and help them create an invitation for their special day.
Also, we have an option once your invitation is completed on our website to print your invitation for free with our do-it-yourself printing. All you have to do is create your card and once you click the ‘Finalize’ button there is an option on the Order screen that says, ‘Free Printing’. Click it and you will receive a PDF of your finished card to print off on your home printer or take to a printing place to have it printed. So it is sort of a giveaway, it is absolutely free to those who use the free printing option. Thank you cards do not come with the free printing, only invitations.
Here are a few samples below of some of our current designs:
Also, please view a step-by-step video of of how the website works from starting to put an invite together to the end, where you can have it shipped directly to you or print out yourself for free, as well as see exactly what makes our service unique to all we have and will hopefully serve in the future.
Thank you so much to Tracie for sharing this here with myself and all my wonderful readers. I am truly hoping to try this service out in November for Lily’s birthday and think she will have so much fun creating an invite with a picture to her likeness! I was supplied with some samples to indeed provide this post and am disclosing that here, but no other compensation was received for this blog article.
Last, but certainly not least, please donβt forget to check out my web design company for specials running at J9 Designs for all your web design needs, as well as my blogging advice, too.

I've always done shutterfly and loved it!
Janine Huldie says
I have done both Shutterfly and Tiny Prints and loved them both, but it can be expensive at times. This gives the personalization, but it is reasonable as you can print from your own printer for free at home!

Super cures invites and yes I hate the invites that the party centers give out. They almost always are postcards and I have such a hard time writing all the info in such a small space.

I know such a pain. And Sara, you know how much I love printing invites out, because just can't get enough of the perfect invite, but I have spent so much over the years and thought I could save a bit, but those ones from the actual party places stink and these you can totally print for free, but also are more personalized. A win-win in my book!! π

Ashley, I am so glad you use them, too and seriously I can't wait to try this out for Lily birthday now, except not rushing to November, because I am not ready for the end of the year or holidays quite yet, lol!! π

I just got cheap invitations at Target for my boys birthday party last weekend, but for the Bridal Shower I'm throwing for my sister later this month, I spent a small fortune on the invites.

I know it is crazy how much personalized invites can cost. I love this though, because other then the ink and paper (which we already have), it is pretty much free and clear to print your own personalized invites from the comfort of your own home!!

Kelly, when she reads this, you never know. And very much like your idea and would love to see what you could come up with if that were the case. Thanks for the thought!! π

I usually do Shutterfly for invites and Christmas cards, too. I love using it because all my photos are in the same place. I like this company's concept, too, though and the prints and packaging you shared look lovely. Might have to try them out for Sofia's 2nd birthday or the baby's baptism. Thanks for sharing and have a great day Janine! xoxo

Wow, that is such a cool idea! If I had kids I'd definitely use something like that for their parties and special occasions. Even though I like to design and also play around, it's nice to let someone else do it so you can relax and concentrate on other details and just enjoy the experience π

Thanks so much Melanie and will say this really is such a great service and very easy to use. And agree that it just makes the process that much more simplified so you can concern yourself with other details and not this one!!

Ok, I seriously love that our kids were born right around the same time. Emma was on July 17th. What day was Scarlet born? And so glad you went to the site. I love the concept and the ease of it. I knew when I was first contacted, I just had to share!! π
tamaralikecamera says
I love that you shared! Something creative from a fellow mom. Awesome. Scarlet is July 9th I suppose that's more like early July than mid. Still very close!

July 8th is our wedding anniversary and when I was pregnant with Emma was convinced she would be born right around that day. So, still shocked she held out until the 17th, but they are literally 8 days apart and seriously love that!! Even more you and I have in common. Definitely puts a smile on my face π
