I fess up and admit I am guilty as charged.
Let’s face it, there isn’t just one thing I am guilty of, but multiple things in life that I am indeed guilty of.
In fact if I had to give a running tally of all I am guilty of, here is my guilty list:
- Having a messy home, because I don’t have enough time in the day or night daily to straighten up.
- Exercising and working out just don’t seem to be happening all that much around these parts, so god help me when bathing suit season actually does find us and should probably should be happy for snow and cold weather to hide it now.
- Having all these books on my Goodreads and not having enough time to sadly read the half of them.
- Getting take out at the very least once a week for dinner, because I can’t muster the energy by Friday night to cook a descent meal that will once again get picked apart by the pickiest of eater (Ms. Lily, I am talking about you!).
- Not sleeping in past 8 am unless I am deathly ill, because little princesses apparently don’t need their beauty sleep.
- Not showering before 12 noon on even a good day, because who has the time to shower?!
- Wearing yoga pants pretty much every day, all day, because they are just that comfortable.
- Being short tempered with my husband, the girls or even the puppy, from being stressed or tired, because PMS knows no bounds, plus having a kid sick for the 1,234,567,890 times this winter is getting old.
Mom guilt is the worst…
- Never being on time for anything since having kids, because it never fails a princess will always need or want something as I am trying to get out of the house.Being plain forgetful, like I was here, because I would forget my head if it weren’t attached to my shoulders – mommy brain does equal early senility even on a good day.
- Pinning all these wonderful crafts and recipes, only to not be able to follow through with most if not all, because I don’t have the energy nor the time to even care, plus I am really the least crafty, hands-on person you will ever meet.
- Never being able to say the word “No” when asked to do something even if I don’t have the time to do it, because guilt has no bounds .
- Biting off more then I can pretty much chew on any given day, because I am an over achiever who clearly has issues with #12.
- Saying I am sorry for things that aren’t even my fault, because guilty as charged rears it ugly head.
- Feeling that there just aren’t enough hours in the day to get all of the above done, even forgoing #5.
[Tweet “What are you guilty of? #1Word @TheGoldenSpoons”]
Sometimes, something has to give. Because my list of guilty confessions still grows, even after admitting here last week that I was even guilty of having writer’s block in recent times.
After carefully weighing my options, I have decided that I would cut back on my blog hopping host duties.
For the last 3 years, I have hosted a few different blog hops and am just feeling blog hop burnout, I suppose. Not that I haven’t loved it, but I just don’t want all the responsibilities that come with being a gracious hostess (trust me in real life I hate being the hostess with the mostess).
For Wonderful Wednesday Blog Hop alone, we have had over 400 linkups most weeks and I admit more guilty confessions here that I have not been able to visit even 1/4 of that and pin on even a good week.
So, in the Frozen spirit that seems to still be alive and well almost two years since the film’s release, I am Letting It Go with this being my final week at co-host for the Wonderful Wednesday Blog Hop.
Don’t get me wrong, I will miss it, but I think the guilt of not being able to properly host, plus all else on my plate, takes precedence.
You can still very much link up with all the other Wonderful Wednesday hostesses and you will also not be getting rid of me any time soon from this space, but I am allowing myself permission to post, comment and read as my writer’s mind is churning and feels the need to simply write for me.
One final note, thank you Lisa for supplying yet my writer’s theme here with the word, GUILTY for this week’s One Word Blog Challenge.
Now, for the last time on Confessions, please link up with Wonderful Wednesday….
Do you blame us???? Yum! Editor’s note: I pinned it. Did you?
Editor’s PickOh, I just had to feature this one. Kids would just love to make this craft and they are MAGNETS! Prettiest refrigerator door in town. LOL
Bill says
What am I guilty of? Being human, and you are guilty of it too, and oh well, that’s just the way it goes. I happen to think you are one of the best mothers I know, so take that to the bank and deposit it. 🙂 Happy Wednesday to you, Janine.
Janine says
Aww, Bill your words mean the world to me and seriously thank you from the bottom of my heart for saying this tonight. Been a rough few days int he mothering department for me as Emma has had strep throat. We got her antibiotics on Sunday and was upsetting her stomach the last two days. So, I spent today having the antibiotic changed with the pharmacy and praying now that she started the new one that she will be feeling better once and for all. Fingers crossed and wishing you a very happy Wednesday, too now 🙂
Diane Roark says
Janine,
I want to cry and laugh at the same time. I will miss you more than you will know, but I truly understand you stress and feeling over committed. I was asked today if I would like to co-write a cookbook. It is a author that has several cookbooks. It will be a huge project with gathering recipes for all 50 states. I am praying about it.
You crack me up with your list. I can just see you and me in this list. I can laugh because you described me well.
When new bloggers want to make an income blogging, I say RUN! It will get overwhelming!!
Many blessings,
Diane Roark
Janine says
Diane, I love that you can see yourself in my list and that means the world to me, because I consider you a wonderful friend and so thankful for you. I hope you know this doesn’t mean I won’t be around because I promise I am not falling off the face of the earth anytime soon. I just felt terrible in the last few weeks here as I knew I just couldn’t keep up and pull my weight the way I should. As for blogging income, I love it, but you are right totally overwhelming. It is ironic, I just wrote a post which will be going up on SITS very soon with advice for new bloggers, the RUN comment really would have scared the pants off of them, but still definitely do know the feeling so well. And I am praying for you too as the book sounds like an amazing opportunity and something you may not want to pass up. Love you my friend and thank you always!!! 🙂
April G says
Those aren’t confessions, those are reality. I was planning on starting a new blog hop at the beginning of the year but with both girls very active, I completely felt like I was neglecting them every day. I just couldn’t do it. I barely keep up with the one that I run, and stopping by the ones that I just participate in! This is along the lines of your other post, that you’re living life. Good for you! But I can’t say I won’t miss it.
Janine says
Aww, April I am seriously glad it isn’t just me and I really just don’t have the time with my kids and everything else to run a blog hop anymore. I loved it in the beginning but now it did kind of become like another chore sadly. And I remembered being told if it ever comes to that then it is time to move on. So, I am going with that advice and my gut in this. Thank you for getting it and seriously appreciate it 😉
The Pinterested Parent says
Janine, I could copy this & use it as my own. Lol! I am guilty of all of these things as well. I am a people pleaser too. I say yes to everyone & I also feel guilty all the time.
Janine says
And I thought I couldn’t love you more if I tried! Seriously, I wish we could meet in person as I think we would get along perfectly;)
Kim says
Well, I totally get the guilt over so many things!!! Yoga pants for the win!!!
Glad you are letting things go:)
Janine says
Thanks Kim and seriously yoga pants totally win hands down any day of the week 😉
Liza Hawkins says
There are definitely not enough hours in the day. I could easily use 30, maybe 35. 😉
Confessions of A Mommyaholic says
I know Lisa and I would totally settle for even 3 or 4 more hours myself!
Nellie @ Brooklyn Active Mama says
I think as a mom we are ALL guilty of these things!! Such a great post. I found myself saying YES to all the items on your list!! 🙂 especially the sleep past 8am. Don’t these kids need more rest?! 🙂
Janine says
Nellie, I know seriously my kids never seem to get tired either! Thank you 😉
Susanne/The Dusty Parachute says
It’s good to know when to say ‘when’ – The fact that we all can identify with your list means that you’re definitely not alone. 🙂
Janine says
Again, Susanne thank you and really is good to know I am so not alone on this!! 🙂
Susanne Lewis Kerns says
It’s good to know when to say ‘when’ – The fact that we all can identify with your list means that you’re definitely not alone. 🙂
Confessions of A Mommyaholic says
Susanne, couldn’t agree more on both levels and definitely glad to know though it really just isn’t me!
Kristen says
YES! We are all incredibly guilty, but we do it to ourselves! Let it go – and workout with your kids! they’ll have more fun than you think!
Janine says
Great idea Kristen and killing too birds with one stone on that one for sure 😉
Eli@coachdaddy says
I want to invent an e-reader for moms to use in the shower. Maybe then you’ll get your shower in before the end of Price is Right, and catch up on your reading. (A kid-proof shower curtain would need to be developed for this to work, I realize).
Janine says
Eli, if you could do that, I would love you even more then I do (if that is possible!). 🙂
Rosey says
Looks like you’re going out with a bang! That’s a huge link-up going on there. 🙂 Everyone says Yoga pants are so comfy, I seriously have to try a pair. 🙂
Janine says
You so need to try yoga pants. I guarantee you will never go back to jeans again!! 😉
Echo says
I am totally guilty of a few of those myself. Namely, the messy house, not sleeping in and the short temper! :p
Janine says
I know I find it so easy to let these things just happen and glad though it isn’t just me!! 😉
Jennifer | The Deliberate Mom says
Oh my goodness, I am guilty of so many of these.
I hear you on getting tired of the whole sick thing. My hubby just came down with a cold and it seems like I’m getting it now too. I’ve been sick at least once every month this winter… BAH!
As for short-tempered… I’ve made my word “patience” and I swear I’m getting lots of opportunities to practice it. I have gotten short-tempered and I hate it. It’s totally not the way I want to live my life.
Wishing you a lovely day.
xoxo
Janine says
Jennifer, I know and the illness probably is worse then the actual cold weather and snow outside to me now. I am so over it. And my patience level is also being tested daily here, as you can see. Hugs and wishing you a wonderful day, too!! 😉
Kelly Suellentrop says
I am guilty of all of those! And blog hops really are a hug time suck, no matter how fun they are. I used to host one and really enjoyed it…until it started feeling like a chore. That meant it was time to move on. Don’t feel guilty about that!
Confessions of A Mommyaholic says
Kelly, you nailed it perfectly and I knew once I felt it to be a chore and was more stressed each week that I had to do just that and let it go!! So, couldn’t agree more and thank you 😉
Rabia @TheLiebers says
I am guilty of laughing when people used to call blogging a full time job. Now I totally see how it could be come that! I don’t depend on any of the income I may bring in from blogging, so that takes some of the pressure off, but I still feel pressured to follow through with commitments and things I have promised to other people. Just take a deep breath and do one thing at a time.
Janine says
Thanks Rabia and I still remember blogging for just me, but it definitely has evolved into much more for me, but do want it still be that to a point. So, why I am stepping back at the very least with blog hopping duties.
Bev says
I feel ya, Janine! I’m glad you are learning to let go; you have a lot on your plate and you deserve some time to relax and not feel so stressed and guilty 🙂
Janine says
Aww, thanks for saying that Bev and I know I slowly learning (slowly)! 🙂
Robin (Masshole Mommy) says
I don;t even have people over anymore because I am embarrassed about the state of my house. It is a disaster and it’s just the way it is.
Janine says
Robin, I know it truly just is the way it is and no matter how hard I try I still got a mess on my hands, too!
Marcia @ Blogitudes says
Me too, Janine. Guilty! Most of these … and plenty more. I love how you wrote this post – tying so many of the numbered items together. It’s excellent … and I hope you have a marvelous semi guilt-free day. 🙂
Janine says
Thank you Marcia and trying, but still so very hard not to let the guilt take over at times! Hope you are having a great day so far though, too 🙂
Jen says
I think you and I might end up sharing the same pretend jail cell! Your list could just as easily be attributed to me. I am glad you are going to let some things go and focus on the things that matter the most and bring you less stress and more happiness.
Janine says
Thanks Jen and if I have to share a jail cell with anyone glad it is you!! 🙂
Kristen Miller Hewitt says
You are not alone…I feel guilty every single second. Like right now for being on FB and not doing puzzles iwth my 3 year old…
Confessions of A Mommyaholic says
Kristen, same here and need to get my 4 year old up for preschool and so lingering on FB, too now!!
Lauren Baker Cormier says
Yeaaaah, it’s a constant companion.
Confessions of A Mommyaholic says
Same here as you can see. So you are in good company
Melissa Imp C says
It’s not the lack of hours in the day. It’s the lack of money to HIRE someone to do a lot of this stuff for me.
Confessions of A Mommyaholic says
If I could hire someone I so would, too!!! 😉
Tamara says
Oh no! I will miss you doing this! I love this blog hop, but I get it. Enough is enough sometimes! I’m sick right now and putting the kids in front of TV.
I don’t own yoga pants but I haven’t exercised in about 17 years. Ok, not since Disney and that was accidental!
I just ate a chocolate peanut butter cup.
Janine says
Aww, I saw you weren’t feeling well and you definitely deserve a chocolate peanut butter cup and hope you can rest a bit while the kids watch TV. No fun being sick with kids and you know first hand I can fully relate and commiserate, too. Hugs and if you need anything, message me 😉
Jessica Ullrich says
I can totally relate to this! I am guilty of most of these things and more, except the showering one because I don’t feel like I can function without a shower some days!!
Confessions of A Mommyaholic says
Jessica, I hate not being able to shower some days until the afternoon. I am so not that type of person and definitely drives me insane and yet so guilty of it too often now!
Emily says
Frankly, I’m AMAZED at how many blog hops you’ve done and that you’ve kept it up for so long. And, I’m as guilty as charged so many things you listed. Ordering in pizza every Friday night? Check. Ordering in on other nights too? Check. Yoga pants? Check. Writers block? YES and I barely eeked out that post today. And on it goes. I’m glad you’re easing up on some responsibilities because you deserve it.
Janine says
Emily, thank you so much and you know I think you too are amazing for all you have been through since we have become friends. 😉
Lisa @ The Golden Spoons says
Well, you are welcome! I admire you for knowing your linnets and gracefully stepping back from all the hops. Honesty, that’s part of what has gotten me bogged down lately, too. Betweens his and Tuesday Ten, it seems I am only blogging what I HAVE to – obligation vs. fun/hobby. Over the years, I have learned to say no to committees, school requests, etc. but somehow I still have trouble saying not to blog stuff!
Janine says
Lisa, I totally have trouble saying no to blogging stuff and think we just found even more we have in common. But again huge thank you and hope we both can find a better balance of blogging more for fun the obligation now in the weeks to come.
another jennifer says
I don’t know how you do it, Janine! You definitely deserve to let a few things go. No need to feel guilty!
Janine says
Thank you so much Jennifer for understanding 😉
Chris Carter says
Well I join you in being GUILTY of all those things TOO!!! And Janine, I’m so inspired by you making such hard decisions for the sake of your sanity! Good for YOU, my sweet friend!! I just can’t imagine trying to host such a huge link up!!
Keep doing exactly what you’re doing, cause ya know what? You are AWESOME!!!! I’m just so grateful to know you. Truly. XOXOXO…..
Janine says
Aww, thank you so much Chris and hope you know how much I adore you, too!! You are also awesome and just a wonderful friend!! Xoxo 😉
Sarah Winer Maizes says
Benign neglect. Perhaps a bit too much of it! 😉
Confessions of A Mommyaholic says
Yup, totally get it and relate so much!!
Jhanis says
Oh Janine you are not alone! If having a messy house is punishable by law, I am pretty sure I’d get a life sentence. With no parole! 😀
Janine says
Lol, Jhanis we could probably share the same cell on that one!! 😉
Alison says
Sometimes, you just have to do what you have to, even if it means a slightly messy house and staying in yoga pants all day. And I’ve long given up being a ‘blogger’ and just focus on being a writer. 🙂
Janine says
Thanks Alison and great advice, too 😉
lisacng @ expandng.com says
You should be proud of all these things :). They’re a sign of a wonderfully fulfilling life! Me, guilty as charged for not replacing the water or HVAC filter when I’m supposed to :).
Janine says
Thanks Lisa and this is why I just buy bottled water, because it would be something else I would forget, too! 😉
Dana says
I’m glad you’re letting a few things go, Janine. It will give you more energy for the other eight million things in your life, right?
Janine says
Thanks Dana and I know what is another 8 million!! 😉
Kim @ HappyPrettyBlog says
I totally could have written that list!
Janine says
Thanks Kim and seriously just so nice to know it isn’t just me.
Jodi Flaherty says
Girl, you have good company in many of these! LOL. Seriously.
I want to start blog-hopping and participating in writing prompts to better connect and help with creative writers block!
Janine says
Jodi, I love hopping, but sadly just doesn’t seem to be enough time in the day though to be hostess. Seriously, though glad to know it isn’t just me 😉
Kristi Campbell says
I’m guilty too! All of us are I guess… and I totally support letting some things go (like a clean house because come ON) and to focusing on what’s important. Love your list!
Janine says
Thanks Kristi and once again just glad I am not the only one!
Alexa says
I am so guilty of all of these things!!!
Janine says
Alexa, I love that I am in the only the best of company on this!! 😉
Rea says
I think cutting back is a great idea Janine, instead of committing into something we can’t actually do. I myself had a hard time saying NO before and I agree, it’s something we feel guilty of. But now that I think about it, I realized that we shouldn’t be guilty about it because in the long run, it will also help all parties involved. I think you’re just being human and it’s perfectly fine. I hope you do get to have some time for yourself even just for a while. 🙂
Janine says
Thanks so much Rea for understanding and I truly love blogging, but did know when I started feeling guilt over hosting that I had to do something and since I made this announcement have definitely felt more peace thankfully.
Aunt Gloria says
Good you are taking care of yourself! xxoo
Janine says
Xoxo 😉
Catherine Gacad says
good for you. i agree. let it go. just let it all go so that you can have some personal time. you deserve it.
Janine says
Aw, thank you so much Catherine;)
Michelle @ A Dish of Daily Life says
I’m guilty of MANY of these same things too! 🙂
Janine says
Well, at least I am in good company 😉
