In only a few short days, my younger brother will be 30 years old. Michael was born 6 years after me and for the sheer fact that he will be 30 sure does make me feel old.
But I still remember my dad calling my grandparents house on that fateful day to tell me that I was a big sister to a baby brother. The first time I laid eyes on him, I knew I loved him so.
I am not going to lie when my mom was pregnant and I first found out, I actually told my parents that the baby told me it was a girl and sister for me. But seriously once Michael was here, all I wanted was to be a little mother to him and love on him. I truly thought of him as one of my baby dolls. For god sakes, he was pretty much the same size, but neither here nor there.
As he grew and was able to interact more with me, he became my best friend and yet a bit of a pest, as well. See I wanted to play with him, but then times, because of the age difference I just wanted to be left alone. Yes, I was a brat at times, but Michael loved me through it all. I was his big sister or his “Ninee”. Yes, he couldn’t quite say Janine when he was real little, but called me “Ninee”.
As, we grew, so did our bond though. We were sister and brother and banded together when we didn’t quite agree with the parental units!!
And flash forward to more recent times, when I got married, he was one of my husband’s groomsmen, because he and Kevin get along as though they could actually be brothers. Then, when Emma came along, Michael was one of the first to arrive on the scene at the hospital to hold her literally minutes after she was born. He even is Lily’s god father. Each year, he dresses up as Santa for both my girls since Emma’s very first Christmas.
Pretty much all year, he is my best friend and the one I turn to whenever I need help or just need to talk. He is there for Kevin and the girls, too. Just a few days ago, he brought them home Jelly Belly Minnie/Mickey Mouse Jelly Beans (because he knows they adore Mickey & Minnie, as well as candy!), because that is just Michael always taking care of everyone especially his nieces.
So, since his birthday is indeed on May 20th, I thought I would use today Wordless (or Wordful in my case) Wednesday Post to share a collage of pictures to celebrate an awesome brother and uncle!!
Happy Birthday Uncle Michael!!
