With so many people working remotely or starting an online business from home, it is becoming a challenge for many to set up a proper home office. Just taking the laptop to the kitchen table is not cutting it anymore.
To get the most out of the office and work productively it needs to have its own space and be well set up. Which means getting organized when you have a limited amount of space. You probably have more space than you realize and can often set up a perfectly functional home office.
In this article, we will go over how you can get a lot out of a little by setting up a home office with limited space.

Use alternative spaces
The best way to have a fully loaded home office is to get creative with the space that you have. You can often find a space that gives you enough room to fit a desk, chair, and other essentials. For instance, a closet works well for an office even though it seems small. If there is at least enough width for the desk then it can be used.
Luckily, there are plenty of wireless devices that don’t have to be put right where the desk is which opens space up even further. For instance, wireless printers work with wifi or Bluetooth so they can be placed in another area and still be used.
If you have a garage then surely there is a corner in there that can be cleared out and used as an office instead. Even a shed can do the same as long as there is an electrical current that gets to it.
Go vertical
Wherever you end up finding a bit of space to put a desk, remember to use the walls. There is a lot of space available when you go up instead of out. The walls can be fitted with floating shelves right above the desk that take up very little room. On these, you can put some of your devices like a printer or scanner as well as office supplies.
If you are trying to avoid nailing anything to the wall if you rent or have brick walls then you should look into some narrow shelving that can be placed near the desk.
Keep it tidy
Clutter is a real productivity killer as well as being an inefficient use of space. It is very important to keep your workspace tidy so you don’t need that much space, to begin with. If you already have a home office that seems to never have enough room, then start with reorganizing everything to find the best way to keep it neat.
It takes good organizing skills to find a place for everything so it doesn’t end up cluttering your work area.
Go paperless
Scan all of your important documents and keep a copy of them on a flash drive and on the cloud. Going paperless eliminates the need to keep a big file cabinet near the office and frees up a lot of space.
