Books let you see the world – they are the best companion

Every book lover dreams to escape from the world with his favorite book. It needs a place for that. Maybe you have a lot of books and wondering how to organize them. This blog tells you how to set up an excellent home library.  Glide through to turn your dream into reality!

8 Ways to Make An Enviable Home Library

Consider the spot

Just because your house is small, it does not mean that you cannot build a home library. This library can be made in the corner of the living room. Even, the dead space under the stairs can also be turned into a home library.  However, if you have a large collection, you should consider a dedicated room.

Try to choose a pace with much natural light and also light it up artificially. This technique will render a comfortable reading experience. The floor should also be sturdy enough to hold the weight of the books.

Choose your style

Building a home library is an art. It takes you to the realm of adventure, sports, romance, and many more.  You should first decide on the functions and set it up accordingly. The next question is whether to go for furniture or have it built-in. A majority of the people go for the traditional style with bespoke shelving.

There is no hard and fast rule. You may also opt for contemporary style. Such home libraries are multifunctional and are also used for home offices. If the home library is a part of your living room, you may have round or oval waste high shelves.

Personalize the storage

Storage is a like ‘holy grail’ to the home library. It should reflect your style and taste. You can use the vertical space from the floor to the ceiling and have traditional shelves. Add a ladder for easy access to the top racks.

There are many other options.  Creating a tree with floating shelves is an excellent way to store books. Or, go for intersecting square or beehive type floating shelves for attracting display. Building diagonal shelves is also a great idea. They create a unique geometric pattern for making the place attractive.

Make it cozy and comfy

Seating is the most important factor, after the books, in a library. The comfort can only let you glide through the world smoothly. While the type of furniture depends on the space available, it should always be comfortable.

If you can accommodate a recliner sofa or an armchair, that is good.  Place them in an angle for a better look. You may also build a cozy reading nook into the shelves.  It will give your home library an out-of-the-box look.

Your home library is your indulgence of the heart. So it should have a cozy ambiance. Cover the floor with a carpet. Also, add throw pillows & rugs on the sofas and chairs, and provide a soft blanket. These will enhance the comfort level.

Provide ample light

Illuminate the home library with sufficient lighting to make reading easy and comfortable. Even, if your home library is flooded with natural light, keep provision for artificial light. They will be handy on cloudy days and also in the evening.

You can have a pendant in the library for accenting.  Use hidden ambient lighting. This lighting will impart a dream ambiance in the library. Also, bring in a table or floor lamp. It should be brighter than the ambient lighting without overwhelming it. Place it so that it lights up the book but do not glare the eyes. It

Display collectibles

A home library does not have to contain books and books only. There should be someplace where your eyes can rest. Colorful collectibles are great for this purpose. Display them on the bookshelves. They will remove the dull look and make it pleasant and relaxing. You can also hang large wall art. This art will jazz up the décor instantly.

Organize the books

It is true that your home library is a ‘no card’ library. Still, you should organize the books for a better look.  You may catalog the books subject-wise, author-wise or title-wise. Doing it manually leaves a personal touch to the place.

Put the heavier books on the lower shelves as far as possible.  Store them on the shelves as above or may do it color wise for an exceptional look.

Cataloging books is very easy these days.  Simply scan the barcode, and you have it ready! Several software programs are also available. You may use any of them to organize the books electronically. They scan the book and store. This procedure saves your collection in case of a disaster.

Add warmth with wall paneling

The 3d wall panels can induce a sparkling feeling in your home library. They can be easily mounted on the walls.  These are available in a wide variety of core materials. You can choose from Gypsum, MDF, Acrylic, Wood, Metal, stone, Fiber Glass wall panels, etc.

You would like the library to be calm and quiet. The acoustic wall panels are perfect for that. These are available in many color options and add a glamorous touch. Made from felt and acoustic fibers, they have very good noise dampening properties.

Using 3d decorative wall panels have many advantages. These stellar products are class “A” fire rated and as such ensure fire-safety to the library. These environment-friendly wall panels are free from volatile organic chemicals and also have LEED certification.

Coming in unique designs and patterns, these gypsum 3d wall panels deliver a cohesive interior. These can also be painted. When light falls on these patterns, they lift up the ambiance to the next level. Other than improving the aesthetics, the architectural wall panels can hide the wall flaws and protect the walls.

Conclusion

The above gives you the necessary guidelines to make the home library functional. You can certainly follow those for creating your home library. However, it is absolutely a personal place. So, designing the home library will depend much on your personal tastes and preferences.
