How to Stage and Sell Your Family’s Home

Filed Under: BLOG, Moving Tips Tagged With: Moving tips

Selling a home and moving is never a walk in the park, especially when there are kids involved. Thankfully, there are certain things you can do to make it easier. Naturally, how much you spend on the home staging process and how much time you’re willing to spend varies depending on your goals.

The home styling tricks and techniques below will help you and your family leave your house off on a positive note — whether you’re a first-time seller or a seasoned house flipper. Plus, our infographic from HomeAdvisor with trends and tips can empower you to craft a space that you’re proud of as a seller.

Stage & Sell Your Home

Invest in a Pro Photographer

To ensure the portfolio of your home’s pictures are an accurate representation of how the room appears, with the proper angles and lighting to optimize your space, you’ll need a pro photographer. Everyone knows home staging is pricey, so to make the most of it, be sure the photos end up being of the best possible quality.

Keep Things Simple

It’s not about your personal preferences when you’re staging a home, although it’s natural to fall back on your style inclinations. When you train your mind to think like a minimalist and learn to appeal to the majority, you’ll be in great shape. Remember: after you’ve nailed down the simple basics of a home staging, you’ll already feel a huge sense of relief.

Involve the Kiddos

When you let your kids help with the staging process, they’ll feel more invested in the process and less likely to have a negative reaction to such a massive life change. For example, you can choose a few viable paint colors, decor elements, etc. and allow them to choose between them so they feel like their voice matters. Remember, every kid is different, but most will miss their former home and the way things were. So, you’ll want pictures to have as keepsakes they can fondly remember.

Most importantly, be patient with both yourself, your partner and your kids during the adjustment period of staging, selling and moving out of your home. Emotions are likely to run high, after all. Give yourself grace and know that everything will come together in due time.
