I Am a Doggie Mommy Or Then Again Maybe an Elf…

Filed Under: Crazyiness, Kids Posts Tagged With: best friends, dogs, Elf on the Shelf, kids

That moment when you hear the toilet bowl flushing and wondering who is in there.  And then you realize your two year old is no where to be found and it must be her.  The first thought that crosses your mind is why is she in there and could she have flushed something down there.

So what do elves, dogs and Lily have in common??

This was my night yesterday and I found her with her hands down to the elbows in toilet water.  Well, thankfully she didn’t flush anything, but she was so wet and cold.  And a bonus her Tinker Bell pajama sleeves were all wet.  So of course, I had to change her pajamas.  But it wasn’t quite what you would think, read on and find out.

In the process of finding Lily like this, I told her she reminded me of her grandparent’s dog, Mookie.  Mookie (named after Mookie Wilson from the 1986 Met’s fame, because my in-laws are huge Met’s fans) is a black labrador retriever who has a penchant for drinking toilet water.  So I guess I should be thankful that she had only put her hands in the water and not actually been drinking it.  And probably should be even more thankful for the fact that it was at least clean toilet water as opposed to dirty toilet water.

Mookie: Lily’s Best Friend…

After, I told Lily that she was indeed acting like Mookie, she couldn’t have been happier.  Because see to Lily, Mookie is good people.  Quite simply, she actually adores him and every other dog that comes her way.  So, this was truly a compliment to Lily.  Mookie and she are best buds.  When we eat over my in-laws, Lily is always the first to help Mookie out, by sharing whatever food she doesn’t want or giving him his favorite treats.  Mookie is eternally grateful, because he would eat whatever was given to him and the garbage has even been known to get rifled by him.  So, even if she has chewed it and decided she doesn’t quite like, Mookie isn’t a connoisseur, who will eat the chewed up and spit out leftovers happily.  So for a picky eater like Lily, Mookie seriously is the best thing since sliced bread at meal time to her.

Hell, Lily even was quoted as saying as we pulled into my in-laws driveway recently, “I want to see Mookie”.  You would think she would be happy and say that she wanted to see her grandparents, but Mookie seems to have first priority here.  When she walks in the door, the first kisses always get bestowed upon Mookie by Lily, too.

So, when all was said and done, after I told Lily that she was acting like her best friend, Mookie by putting her hand in the toilet to play, she told me just as you could imagine, “Yay, I love Mookie”, “I love acting like Mookie” and my all-time favorite, “I am a doggie, mommy.”

Yes, she is all mine and couldn’t even begin to try to figure her out.  And I couldn’t make this one up even if I tried!!

Now watch a funny clip from That 70’s Show featuring the song “Let me Tell You About My Best Friend”:

About a year ago my youngest flushed a bathtub toy down the toilet. No amount of plunging of snaking would get it out. We ended replacing the whole thing!

Mommiedaze, I truly thought I was going to find that she flushed something down the toilet and have a big problem. I never in a million years would have thought she would have had her hands in there playing. I guess you learn something new everyday, lol!!

Haha! I love this post. The things kids say 🙂 I'm only just getting into the funny stages of toddlerhood with my daughter…looking forward to the things she'll venture into and the things she'll say!

Kera, just wait each day is an adventure with a toddler. Some things are just too funny not to laugh about and others are just too frustrating that you can't help, but want to scream.

Maybe once I have less on my plate, Two kids and a husband seem to give me more than enough to do. She can love Mookie and Shea from afar at her grandparents, lol!! But will keep you in mind if I ever do change my mind and decide to give her her wish 🙂

I know Julie and truly can't believe how fascinated both my kids are with the damn toilet and after your comment just a bit happy I don't have a cat too that I would have to fend off of our toilet, lol 🙂

The funny thing is… i was imagining the worse… something being flushed down the toilet. That being said – it made me remember that not to long ago was when my son thought it would be a good idea to flush a wash cloth down the toilet. It was when I was really sick. I asked him to put it in the bathroom. I guess this meant throw it in the toilet like you do with toilet paper. Down it went – and I couldn't move fast enough once i realized what he was about to do. It went clean down so no issues, but I was worried for weeks that something was going to happen. Then a long time ago – my middle daughter flushed two hippos and a frog down the toilet. Man – what a mess. But hey – at least she wasn't drinking the water! 🙂

Stacy, the day and week is still young and lord knows I have learned to say never say never with my girls, because they could probably flush with the best of them. That said, it sounds like you too have had your fair share of toilet tales with your kids and am sorry. Thank you though for sharing and letting me know I am not the only one who has had toilet stories!!

Hilarious! I loved it! My dogs drink out of the toilet too. Still glad I don't have kids…because I'm sure my kids would probably like to drink out of the toilet too.

      December 7, 2012 at 7:45 am

Gina, I thought of your dog believe it or not, lol!! Seriously, don't be surprised if and when you do have kids that the dog and the kids will mimic each other. Thanks seriously!!

    • JanineHuldie says

      December 7, 2012 at 9:13 am

Oh man, army men. That is too funny and can see you also can totally relate to the fun times in the bathroom with your on, too. Thanks for sharing and really appreciate it 🙂

Thanks Amy and Mookie is a great dog, but some of the things he does are just too much, lol!! And now of course Lily is following suit, but sounds like you had your fair share with your oldest girl and can relate 🙂

    December 7, 2012 at 9:51 am

Aww, that's such a cute story (even though she was playing in the toilet). She must be in the make-believe stage right now. My nephew is, too. He hops around the house, yelling 'Ribbit' all the time and then will magically turn into a snake and lie on the floor. 🙂

    • JanineHuldie says

      December 7, 2012 at 11:33 am

Thanks Cari and sounds like your nephew is around the same age as Lily. If they ever met up they would probably have a ball playing in the toilet together, lol 🙂

  14. Cyndi says

    December 7, 2012 at 10:09 am

Hehe…this is cute, even if Lily had her arms in the toilet…hehehe. What fun it is for momma to clean! Okay, sorry you had to go through that, but at least it was clean water as opposed to dirty water. I can't wait for Lily to read this post when she gets older. HAHAHA.

    • JanineHuldie says

      December 7, 2012 at 11:34 am

Thanks Cyndi and I guess I should truly be thankful for that small favor that it was indeed a clean toilet, lol!! And by the way I can only imagine her reaction this when she is older!!

  15. Terrye says

    December 7, 2012 at 1:40 pm

So, you have loyalty traits like a Labrador and your daughter likes to hang out around the porcelain water bowl…yep, I can see the family resemblance. 🙂

When Collin was 4, he decided he needed to flush all of the weeks mail in one big flush. I was greeted with an overflowing toilet and soggy bills. Hell yeah, I mailed them off with a kiss from the tidy bowl man! 🙂

    • JanineHuldie says

      December 7, 2012 at 3:11 pm

Lol, oh man Terrye thank you seriously for that laugh. While I am sure flushing the bills were a huge mess, the way you described the after effect, was too funny not to laugh!! As for the resemblance, you make a valid point, too!! 🙂 🙂

Too cute! Just so long as she doesn't decide to emulate Mookie and start drinking out of the toilet! As for the greeting kisses, he might just get the first round because he's closer to her height. 😉

Your elf reminded me … I saw a funny pic the other day someone had posted of theirs poised over the toilet with one of those big very light puffy peppermints floating in the water like he had pooped the peppermint. I'm guessing little ones would get a real hoot out of that one! [#TALU]

Chris, thank you for sharing that and I wish I could have seen that picture of the Elf you described, because that sounded hilarious. I am not as creative, but my husband is the one that does all the tricks with our Elf. They get such a kick out of it, too. Thanks seriously for stopping by and you made my day with that story 🙂
