I am not perfect, but I keep going!
Most days this truly my mantra. Being the mother to two little girls and a wife (too!), I constantly feel like my life is me making mistakes to fix and learn from daily.
Seriously, what is life without making mistakes?
It would be highly boring if I was perfect and never did make a mistake in my life.
Growing up, my mom would tell me that it was indeed ok to make mistakes, but as long as I learned from these mistakes, didn’t repeat or make the same mistakes again, and apologized (if necessary), that it was seriously ok to make mistakes
And trust me, I have made some doozies even just this past week alone.
When you ask?
Like leaving the house without extra juice boxes.
Why would this be so bad, you ask me?
Well, Emma had her pre-school circus this past week. At the end of the show, they served snack and juice boxes to all the kids. There were extras and Lily was able to have her own. So all was well with the world or so I thought.
But then, it was time to leave. Somehow her juice box got thrown out and she screamed like a crazed non-napping child would in the back seat of the car as we were driving to meet up with rest of family to continue the celebration with ice cream.
So how did I rectify this mistake?
Kevin stopped home and I was able to go into the house to replace her missing juice box. Crisis thankfully averted!
What did I learn from this mistake?
Make sure to take juice boxes with you at all times!
So, how does this relate to the almost over Slim by the Summer challenge (less then one week and counting)?
Well we were asked this same question for this week’s challenge.
To be honest first and foremost, sweets are my downfall, but so are salty items, too. Especially during that time of the month.
Well what have I learned?
I have learned that I can seriously only do my best as far staying in shape is concerned. And that I am going to fall off the wagon from time-to-time (especially during my period), but it is how I deal with these lapses that count.
If I can get back on the proverbial horse and keep going even after these slip-ups and not let it deter me from the ultimate goal at hand (being fit), then that is all that matters.
I mean no one can be perfect all the time, especially with their diet and working out. Life has a way of getting in the way (like parties, celebrations and even monthly PMS) and that is the way it should be and just is.
If I can learn to accept it and just do what I can for the most part in being healthy, then I am doing my part to help myself on this journey.
And I think that is all anyone including myself can do.
So what are your vulnerabilities in life, as well as your diet and exercise, too? And how do you cope?

Robin Rue says
How dare you not bring extra juice hahahaha! I've done stuff like that and I've also gone out of my way to avert the crisis…..whatever it takes to keep them from melting down, right?
Janine Huldie says
Oh so true Robin and I know what was I thinking, lol!!
The Dose of Reality says
We have all been there! Those moments are the worst! But good for you, for letting yourself off the hook! :)-The Dose Girls
Janine Huldie says
Thanks Dose Girls and I seriously glad to know it isn't just me!! 🙂
Susan Zutautas says
I've made tons of mistakes along the way and still do. It's all part of the learning process. I agree with your Mom. When I have a craving … that gotta have it craving, I sometimes will try and either find a substitute or give into the craving and go for it. I've been craving fajitas for months now and even though I'm following a lower carb diet, the other night I gave in and made fajitas. Made my sons very happy 🙂
Janine Huldie says
I so with you on this Susan and if I am craving something, I will usually give in and have it eventually, too. And yum to fajitas (one of my all-time favorite meals). So, I can understand why your son was happy. And mom is usually always right!! 🙂
The Next Step says
lol, my solution to not enough juice boxes is ear plugs. for me. 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Oh ear plugs are a must and good one, too Lori lol!! 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Oh so true Amy and I seriously am with you on this. Sometimes, you just have to indulge a bit. And like you I make for it the next few days after. Oh and those juice boxes seriously have saved my life, as well, on more then one occasion now 🙂
mail4rosey says
Someone drank my son's juice box in his class and he cried, lol. The kiddos like their juice. 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Oh your poor son Rosey and looks like we can totally relate to the juice box moments!!
AnotherCleanSlate says
I cry when my juice boxes are thrown away too!
Janine Huldie says
Lol, Katie. you and Lily would get along swimmingly!! 🙂
Bill says
I left perfect in the dust a long, long time ago. Talk about shooting for unrealistic goals. LOL
You do a wonderful job, Janine, so next time you feel like beating yourself up, take a break and give yourself a get out of jail free card. 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Oh thank you for saying that Bill and trust me I do beat myself up daily, because I do know I could do things better, but it is nice hearing someone saying that I do some things right, too 🙂 🙂
mrs_karenC says
OMG…I feel your pain babe. Not only from teh ensuing melt down, but you don't want your kid to ever be thirsty or hungry. I have forgetten a few juice boxes, a favorite toy, or hat. I always keep juice, gummies, a hat and some robots in our "outing" bag.
I am terrible exercises and eating healthy. But I am only human and my son knows I am the bomb, so that is all that matters, right?
Janine Huldie says
Oh so very true and think you are totally the bomb Karen and love your outing bag idea. Since I no longer need a diaper bag, I just carry a pocketbook with some extra stuff, but may need to put a bag in the car like you mentioned. Thanks for that one 🙂
Jane Marsh says
Perfection is boring.
Janine Huldie says
Oh so true Jane and thanks so much!! 🙂
Cynking Feeling says
I think I could have reblogged your post and saved time writing my own!
Except for the juice box bit. My son isn't as enamored with juice boxes.
Janine Huldie says
Oh glad my you could so relate to most of this except the juice boxes, but juice has truly become a part of my daily life with Lily, lol!! 🙂
Elena says
I just wanted to say thanks for stopping by my site and leaving a comment on my stuttering post! I think as mothers we will forever worry about and for our children. I guess it's in our job description ;o) I always wonder where Alivia stands in terms of speech development. Like, should she be talking more clearly now? Should I be able to understand her better? Stuff like that. I try not to worry and luckily for us we have a great Pediatrician to answer all our questions :o)
Anyhow, hope you have a wonderful Tuesday :o)
Janine Huldie says
Oh Elena totally my pleasure so happy that we are both following each other now. And you are so right about worrying about our kids on so many different levels as mothers it is just the way it goes. Believe me I always wonder about her speech, but I am happy that she seems very well adjusted and happy most days. So that does count for a lot in my book.
Janine Huldie says
Oh thanks for saying that Kelly, but believe me I am human and so not perfect. I make mistakes daily and just try so hard to learn and not repeat those mistakes if I can. And you had me cracking up about the "Devil making you do it!!" 🙂 🙂
Ruchira says
oh Janine…you admitting that you are not perfect says it all.
Sweets are my biggest challenge and wanna shed those 5 pounds so, try to stay away esp when my kid wanna waste his few spoons of ice-cream…
Voted for ya!!
Janine Huldie says
Thanks so much Ruchira and can't tell you how many times I have sampled my kids left over ice cream. Yes, I really do have a sweet tooth, too!! 🙂
SarahA says
There's a Laurie Berkner song called "I'm Not Perfect"-it popped into my head as I read your post. Extra juice boxes=good. I can apply that to myself too. If I make sure to bring a healthy snack with me just in case, I do much better than if I have to scrounge for something. I get weak and shaky real quick when I'm hungry!
Janine Huldie says
Oh I know that song and know I have it my head, too!! And I am notorious for having a granola bar in my pocketbook just in case!!
SarahA says
The whole juicebox thing can be applied to me as an adult too. If I bring along a healthy snack, I won't have to worry about trying to find something when I'm hungry and settle for a candy bar!
Janine Huldie says
Lol, Sarah and this is how too many candy bars have gotten consumed over the years by me, too!! 🙂
Lanaya @ Raising Rea says
Ugh .. damn the juice boxes! I swear those things will get you in trouble every time. Thankfully I think my bark is louder than Reagan's tantrums so she is pretty good about it.
Vulnerabilities are a bitch but without them we would never know what it's like to dust ourselves off and keep going.
You are an inspiration to me mama and I love you to death! Seriously …
Ok, that got kind of stalker-ish … not sure how that happened but such is life!

Janine Huldie says
Oh Lanaya the feeling is completely mutual and seriously love you to death, too!! And stalk away, as long as I can stalk right back, we are all good in the hood, lol!! 🙂 And those damn juice boxes will get us every time!!! xoxo!!!
Christy Birmingham says
Good for you, learning from mistakes and continuing to step forward. Hugs!
Janine Huldie says
Oh thanks Christy and hugs right back at you!!! 🙂
Dani Ryan says
Aw, doesn't it suck that we can't be perfect all the time??! 😉
The trick to losing weight, I find, is allowing yourself to cheat once in a while.
And I'm so with you about the whole PMS nightmare!!!!
Janine Huldie says
Totally does, lol Dani!!! But so right about being able to cheat once in awhile, because I think I would go quite mad if I couldn't. And I am just coming out of PMS Hell for another month and seriously the worst time of the month for me by far!!
Kera says
We all make mistakes and sometimes they are blessings in disguise in the fact that we can learn from them. I love the story of you forgetting extra juice boxes! Sofia's not at that stage quite yet, but she will get mad if I forget to bring some of her favorite snacks or her baby doll. Oh the joys that I have to look forward to 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Lol, Kera. When I began to write this, I thought about what I had done wrong that past week and this is just what came to me. I will give Lily always seems to give me good inspiration. But I will say the juice box or puffs is usually what upsets her if we don't have enough of or forget. 🙂
Amy says
You are so right. I am glad you are aware of never leaving a juice box behind again. I always try to learn from my mistakes. I really feel like no matter good or bad there is always a lesson to learn, you just have to see it.
Janine Huldie says
Thanks Amy and the juice box is a necessity for sure. And truly couldn't agree with you more on this 🙂
Audrey says
I used to have to keep food n the car for after swim practice because the girls would be STARVING–when I forgot, the trip home was less than pleasant–your blog looks like it is hopping!!!
Janine Huldie says
Audrey, sounds like our car and have snacks in the car all the time, too. And thank you as always!! 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Love your saying on this and I had fun experimenting with the different styles on this post. And also had a blast using the topic at hand and running with it from my point of view, Clark!! 🙂
Janine Huldie says
Very true about forgiveness Michelle and have practiced that time and again over the years. Thanks as always 🙂
gigigirl says
We won't talk about diet…..I'm struggling to keep to one that will get off the 3 or 4 lbs. I need to lose. It comes on so fast and doesn't go off easily or quickly. I do yoga and that helps keep me from smashing something! Taking things in stride…….xxoo Aunt Gloria Love that photo of Lily sans juice box….but sorry she was upset.
Janine Huldie says
Oh thanks Aunt Gloria, she definitely was upset, but thankfully I was able to handle it and move on until the next upset moment with her!! But I hear you about the struggle with a few extra pounds here and there. They go on easily enough, but taking them off not so easy!! Love you and xoxo 🙂
Melanie Chisnall says
Couldn't agree with you more Janine! I slip up too now and then. In fact over the past two weekends I've made orange tart and gobbled down slices like you won't believe. It's okay…it's not like I'm sitting on the couch all day or something. We're allowed to cheat and slip up now and then. I mean gosh, that's what living is all about! Where's the fun in watching what you eat all the time and working out like a mad woman? No thanks! I love my Jillian Michaels workout DVD. I need to get another one because it's starting to go soft in some areas because I've used it so much, lol.
Janine Huldie says
Yay for you on using that Jillian Michaels DVD so often now. And you are right we have to have those moments where we can indulge, because what would we have if we didn't? Life would sure be quite boring. Thanks so much Melanie!! 🙂
Emily says
Oh yes, when it comes to the parenting gig, I am FAR from perfect! If I had a dime for how many times I forgot to pack the "right" snack or that extra diaper, well, I'd be a rich woman by now. 🙂 The good news is I've learned to forgive myself for these mistakes and move on. Because doing the best we can is all anyone can do…(and that face on Emma was quite adorable, even if she was in a post-tantrum mood…)
Janine Huldie says
Thanks Emily and always so nice to know it isn't just me who forgets snacks, juice or whatever else isn't attached to me physically!! And that little face makes it hard to stay upset for long 🙂
April @ 100lbcountdo says
Beautiful post!
Janine Huldie says
Thanks so much April!! 🙂
Break the Jen Mold says
This was a really inspirational post! I can't leave without extra water, if I don't bring water, the boy wants water. If I bring it, I'm lugging it around all day. Full. I agree with letting yourself fall every once in a while, you can't beat yourself up! You rock!
Janine Huldie says
Oh thanks so much Jen and I am glad to know that I am not the only one that has to carry something like this outside the home. And so true and couldn't agree more about letting yourself fall every once in awhile and not beating yourself up!! 🙂
