“I want Olaf in my backpack!”
This was shouted to me at 8:30 am on a Friday morning by my 5 year old.
Mind you she had been up, getting ready for about 45 minutes and picked 5 minutes before we needed to be outside to catch the morning school bus for school.
The morning deteriorated even further into the depths of despair and you can read more that I recently shared here.
And yet this my friends sadly isn’t the first time nor will it be the last time in reality that this modern mom, which isn’t a “supermom” by any means, but still feel the pressures to be one and has endured the stress of the so-called dreaded morning routine with her kids.
That is why I was even more excited to read the latest book that has been newly released by Alexa Bigwarfe and Kerry Rivera, Lose the Cape: Realities from Busy Modern Moms and Strategies to Survive, because the reality is that I am just a normal mom (once again definitely not a supermom) who is constantly just trying to do the best for her family.
Lose the Cape is an attempt to reach out to all moms and let us know we’re already super, cape or not (even though we don’t need one). It features resources galore – including suggestions and tips from a diverse group of moms to make life run smoother. This book is a godsend and is broken up into 11 key sections, including The Morning Routine that I so desperately have indeed admitted above and previously that I do need some major help with. Plus it also includes organization, meal planning, evening routines, and new mommy worries for all moms looking for some relief.
See we, moms, try to be super every day, but we don’t need to aspire to be “supermom” because she simply does not exist. So, I think it’s time for all moms to join together and Lose the Cape.
So, for that and so much more, I can’t thank these amazing ladies for compiling this book as a true guide on how to tackle even the worst stresses and moments all moms (myself included) can and probably have incurred often enough.
What are you waiting for, get your copy HERE now!

Thanks for sharing this book. I hadn’t heard of it until now. My son’s on that cusp of little big boy status. Though he’s still my one and only baby, I’m finding that some of my strategies aren’t really working as smoothly as they have in the past. So, I’m excited to check out this book. Thanks.
Janine says
Absolutely my pleasure and seriously so glad that I could turn you onto Losing the Cape, Caryn! 😉

Lose the cape, my friend. There’s much to be seen from ground level.
Happy Wednesday!

Marcia @ Blogitudes says
The book sounds awesome, Janine. I’m not a mom … but I sure could use a book like this designed for wives. 🙂 In the meantime, I have a few nieces who have just become moms and I’ll be sure to tell them about this book. Sounds like it could be a tremendous help to them.
Janine says
Aw, Marcia I could use that book for wives, too often enough and thank you always, my friend 😉

I gave up on the supermom thing years ago – now I’m just me trying to do the best I can and some days it is pretty rough!!!
Janine says
Agreed, many days it is just too hard here, too!
Nellie @ Brooklyn Active Mama says
What a great book to share! I don’t even think I own a cape (figuratively of course) but this book sounds awesome 🙂
Janine says
I don’t either, Nellie, but still so easy to try to take on the supermom role and even easier to fail miserably!
JD Bailey says
No capes here, that’s for sure. 🙂
Confessions of A Mommyaholic says
JD, none here either! 😉
Leslie says
Looking forward to reading the book…I’ve heard so many good things about it. And definitely agree, no mom is supermom. At least, not all the time.

Confessions of A Mommyaholic says
I am not 40 yet, but have two kids. So my vote is on kid #2!
Diane Roark says
Janine,
Lose the Cape sounds like a great book. It is so true we try to be super mom. Just yesterday, I told my youngest daughter not to get on the bus because I was picking her up from school. I was in line at her school ready to pick her up when I got a call from her (she borrowed a phone) saying she was on the bus and looked at her hand where I wrote CAR RIDER on it. It was senior night at my oldest son’s baseball game and I did not want to be late. I was super mom chasing the bus down!!!! No, I some how did not go to jail. My youngest daughter is where I get all my gray hair. This is the 5 time this school year she has done this bus trick.
Thanks for the book review!
Diane
Janine says
Diane, I have so much gray now that Cruella Deville has nothing on me!! 😉
Lisa @ The Golden Spoons says
Definitely not super mom here!!! (I just sent my husband out to pick up dinner, intact, because I just don’t feel like cooking!) This sounds like a great collection and I can’t wait to read it!
Janine says
Lisa, I have been known to do the same! Hope you enjoy when you read 😉
Echo says
I think we can all relate to this book in so many ways!
Janine says
I agree Echo!! 😉
Rosey says
I think ditching the cape is a splendid idea! This sounds like a great book, Janine!
Janine says
Thanks Rosey and couldn’t agree more!! 😉
Chris Carter says
I can’t WAIT to read this book!! Thanks for the review, Janine!! I am sure it will be a fantastic resource for all of us moms just trying to make it through… 🙂
Janine says
So happy to share with you Chris and hope you get to read this book soon now 😉
Pam@over50feeling40 says
Looks like one I need to send my daughter! Thanks for sharing with the Thursday Blog Hop!
Janine says
Aw, thank you Pam and hoping your daughter enjoys this book, too 😉
Jen says
Why oh why can’t that 5 minutes before the bus arrives ever be calm and peaceful?? It’s like our kids need to leave us with ramped up nerves right before they leave as a little parting gift! Or else we might forget them… Love the review of the book. I have seen this a few places now and I think I just need to sit down and read it!
Janine says
I know seriously Jen it is those 5 minutes before the bus that as prepared as I am still get me every time!!
Eli@coachdaddy says
Moms don’t need the cape, anyway. It’s probably been used as a nose wipe for kids – or worse! I think you guys are heroes anyway.
Janine says
Aw, thank you Eli and hope you know I feel the same about you, too 😉
Tamara says
I have to agree about Olaf shouts~!
I loved this book so much and the feelings it gave me – of relief, mostly!
Janine says
I know those Olaf shouts get me every time, too!! 😉
Rabia @TheLiebers says
My son used to wait until I had buckled him in the car before he told me that he wanted more to eat for breakfast! And then he would scream all the way to school about how hungry he was! He eats at home and then again at school. Does he really need to eat on the 5 minute trip TO school?? I think not!
Janine says
Rabia, I know what is it with the trip to school that brings out the worst in them every time!
Nina says
This sounds like a great book and something all moms can relate to. We all have those crazy days! Just yesterday I felt like a referee for my toddler twins.
Janine says
I know and I am usually the referee for two school aged girls here, too! 😉
Kelly L McKenzie says
Oh now this sounds like just the ticket for my niece! She has a 13 month old. Thank you, Janine. I’m excited!
Janine says
Aw, so glad this can help you niece and totally made me smile reading your comment, Kelly! 😉
Lindsay Klein says
Love the book concept:0 I’ll put it on my baby registry one day! Anything superhero related is wonderful!!!! HAHAHA Have a good weekend SUPER mom xo
Janine says
Aw, thanks you Lindsay and have a great weekend, too!! 🙂
Gingi says
Your title alone contains so much frikkin’ truth!! – http://www.domesticgeekgirl.com
Janine says
Thanks Gingi and I know crazy, but so true! 😉
Jenny @ Unremarkable Files says
Love that morning rush. To a child, 5 minutes before you go always seems like the best time to announce that you don’t have your homework/library books/band instrument/shoes/jacket/brain.
Janine says
Jenny, that 5 minutes does it for us every time. Even today, my oldest decided she was going to run to the bus stop as we were actually on time. Of course, she fell and skinned her knee! Never fails!!
Kristi Campbell says
I so want to read this book! I’m not sure about the meal planning part though. I hope you have an excellent weekend, Janine! Here’s to no crazy days and a super relaxing Saturday and Sunday for you and your family!
Janine says
I totally hope you get to read, Kristi and like you though I am not much of a meal planner either. Have a great weekend, too now 😉
Jack says
I rather enjoy wearing my cape, helps me fly.
Janine says
Aw, I think it does totally for you, Jack 😉
Ginny Marie says
I’m in the middle of reading and enjoying my own copy! Thanks for a great review!
Janine says
Yay and so happy you are enjoying it, too 😉
Kristen says
As you probably know – I loathe the word supermom and think the pressure society (and bloggers) puts on mothers is insanely ridiculous. Ain’t no capes at my house! Would love to read this!
Janine says
No capes here either and totally hope you ge to read soon! 😉
The Pinterested Parent says
I am not sure if I ever had the cape to lose. I never am sure if what I am doing is the right thing.. This sounds like a great read for all mamas. Thanks for sharing.
Janine says
Happy to share and like you no capes here either!!
Alexa says
Did I never comment on this post? I swear I did but I don’t see it!! Thank you so much for your review Janine. I knew this would be a book you’d relate to, based on our many conversations about motherhood and kids! Thanks for sharing this review!
Janine says
Aww, totally my pleasure and thank you so much for allowing me to review as you are right I definitely related and then some!!
